2 Scope, purpose & applicability Combined RP /non RP Scope Equipment and its (downloadable) software which intentionally emits or receives radio waves for the purpose of radio communication or radio determination Includes: broadcast TV and radio receivers Equipment operating below 9 khz Purpose Ensure an efficient use of radio spectrum and avoid harmful interference. Applicability R&TTE RED Before 13 June 2016 R&TTE 13 June June 2017 R&TTE or RED From 12 June 2017 onward RED?

3 RED administrative requirements Combined RP /non RP Manufacturers shall ensure that radio equipment which they have placed on the market bears a type, batch or serial number or other element allowing its identification Manufacturers and/or importers shall indicate on the radio equipment their name, registered trade name or registered trade mark and the postal address at which they can be contacted + CE mark. Manufacturers shall ensure that the radio equipment is accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language which can be easily understood information includes: frequency band(s) in which the radio equipment operates maximum radio-frequency power transmitted in the frequency band(s) in which the radio equipment operates Manufacturers shall ensure that each item of radio equipment is accompanied by a copy of the EU declaration of conformity or by a simplified EU declaration of conformity. the packaging shall allow the identification of the Member States or the geographical area within a Member State where restrictions on putting into service or requirements for authorization of use exist Exclamation mark no longer required

4 to RED (art 43) 1. CE marking has been affixed in violation of Article 30 of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 or of Article 20 of this Directive; Combined RP /non RP 2. the CE marking has not been affixed; 3. the identification number of the notified body, where the conformity assessment procedure set out in Annex IV is applied, has been affixed in violation of Article 20 or has not been affixed; 4. EU declaration of conformity has not been drawn up; 5. EU declaration of conformity has not been drawn up correctly; 6. Technical documentation is either not available or not complete; 7. Information referred to in Article 10(6) or (7) or Article 12(3) is absent, false or incomplete (see RED admin requirements) 8. Information on the intended use of radio equipment, the EU declaration of conformity or usage restrictions as set out in Article 10(8), (9) and (10) does not accompany the radio equipment (see RED admin requirements) 9. Requirements on identification of economic operators set out in Article 15 are not fulfilled; (see RED admin requirements) 10. Article 5 is not complied with. (procedures in place for series production to remain in conformity with the Directive) 8/10 items are easy rules & paper work Easy to adhere to Technical documentation: THE challenge!

Tests on end product should be finished by June 11 th, 2017 Tests on Radio module for implementation in end product needs to be done months earlier (take into account supply chain / production / logistics)

9 Combined RP & non-rp (case 1) Combined RP/non RP Is RP in the host non-rp not installed in equivalent assessment conditions or not according to the installation instructions for the radio product : Full reassessment on the combination! Assessment doesn t necessarily require testing! WiFi module tested in laptop but now combined in projector: assessment (emission spectrum host, crosstalk, ground plane, shielding, ) Use of an antenna not included in original assessment: test! Deviation from installation instructions assessment and/or test Change to the design and/or physical layout of the original RP : test! Do the RP and the non-rp of the combined equipment operate at the same time during normal operation of the combined equipment Full reassessment on the combination, doesn t necessarily require testing.

10 Combined RP & non-rp When Full reassessment by tests is required: Combined RP/non RP operation modes of the combined equipment during test should: cause maximum emissions and immunity responses. reflect the normal operation of the combined equipment as intended by the manufacturer EMC compatibility (art. 3.1b) EN EMC for radio eq. & services tech. req. EN Radiated Emissions only! 13 Think of the assessment when selecting your radio product: Combined RP/non RP Design smart & modular! Don t go solder your own boards with radio emitting component, without making a cost trade of between test & certification vs certified module Select radio product which has been tested in the modes you are going to use it Use connectors which are stated in the installation manual Use same antenna or antenna with exact same gain Implement radio product away from high frequency components Implement radio product away from power cables & other cables in general Take the same design approach in all your products enables reuse of (parts) of your assessment Buy smart: Check the applicable standards AND THEIR VERSIONS on the certificate of the radio product. Make sure they are not superseded shortly Radio standards are updated frequently, do not buy too much stock When standards are not listed as harmonized yet, use the latest ETSI version as a reference
