From Data to Print Approval A Customized Path The Artwork Data is the Start For the transfer of this digital data we gladly put our FTP server at your disposal. You will receive a user name and password from us. Just send a short mail to the below mentioned contacts and we will forward you your access data: c.koenig@engelhardt-etikett.de or a.suess@engelhardt-etikett.de You can gladly request access data from your personal Engelhardt contact. Of course we will still accept your data by CD or DVD as well. For your data you can take the following formats Esko AE14.1 (auch ArtPro files) Adobe Cerative Cloud 2015 (Photoshop, illustrator, In-Design) NEO Illustrator to CC 2015 Ready for print data in PDF X-3 / X-4!!MS-Office versions are not suited for the creation of printing data For pictures you can take following formats EPS Tiff PSD in CMYK-Modell Photoshop DCS JPEG!! No exposure charts or DGC are to be included Von den Daten zur Druckfreigabe Seite 1 von 6
Please convert texts to paths. If corrections are to be undertaken, then leave as text and attach fonts which have been used. When Creating Artwork please note Text Size Positive single colour Positive multi-coloured Negative single colour Negative multi coloured Line Width Positive single colour Positive multi-coloured Negative single colour Negative multi-coloured 5pt 6pt 6pt 7pt 0.1 mm 0.2 mm 0.25 mm 0.25 mm EAN / UPC Code From SC 0 The barcode should ideally be positioned at a right angle to the direction of printing For IML-do not position the barcode at the injection point (Read Error) Image Resolution 300 ppi at 100% Colours Your Artwork Data may not exceed 8 colours including white with transparent or aluminized materials. Punching Contours and varnish are not included. In the case of transparent or aluminized substrate we will gladly apply the opaque white; to achieve this we require the exact details of what has to be underlaid with white.!! A white on transparent or aluminized substrate will never reach the colour intensity and purity of white paper. Ink Coverage Maximum 280% For IML maximum 220% Cut Due to our manufacturing tolerances (printing & cutting) we need material in excess of the end format. We require 2 mm extra circumferential material. For the same reasons we need a text free area of at least 1.5 mm to the end format. This also applies to graphic elements. If the circumference is coloured then this should be at least 2 mm strong (we recommend 3 mm) Von den Daten zur Druckfreigabe Seite 2 von 6
!!We will apply overfilling and underfilling. After receiving your data we will check these for technical producibility (e.g. image resolution, ink coverage) and amend to suit our process requirements (e.g. over and under filling). Before the actual printing of the data you will receive a PDF data for design approval. This data is only suitable for the approval of the texts and the image presentation and has no significance regarding the colour accuracy. To make the printing process as reproducible as possible all factors which influence the printing have to be eliminated or standardized. This means that not only the data but also the materials used e.g. colours, paper, printing plate and also the printing machine need to conform to a standard. The basis for our in house production is the current valid version of the Process Standard Offset Print (PSO) or ISO (for offset). The first step in this process is to start with a proof that demonstrates the required end results. Due to the importance of this step there are certain requirements for this proof: - the proof supplied by the customer should conform to the printing standard ISO or proof standard and include an analysis that demonstrates conformity with PSO - the proof contains the UGRA/FOGRA media wedge V3 and is produced from the final delivered data base - there must be a control line with the name of the checked data, the date and the colour profile used - prerequisite is that type of paper used for the proof and the production print correspond to each other, only then we have the possibility to achieve the same result in the production print as in the proof Which proofs are available for Print Approval The colour print This Proof printed on conventional copying paper, can only show the status of the elements and the text in equivalent shades - no colour accuracy The Epson proof This proof is produced on standardized (ISO ) paper, with standardized printing parameters and data (ISO ) and has a FoGRA media wedge and an analysis which Von den Daten zur Druckfreigabe Seite 3 von 6
conforms to PSO. This proof is colour accurate for the ISO-scale, black, cyan, magenta and yellow as long as subsequent prints are also on white paper. The Roland Proof This type of proof preparation makes it possible for a design illustration on the following original materials: white paper, aluminized paper, transparent foil and white foil. However this proof is only colour binding for white paper referring to ISO scale black, cyan, magenta and yellow. For all other colours and materials this proof can be used as a good approximation. The Press proof The press proof deals with an advanced machine printed proof. As this proof will later be produced on the printing machine, it is colour binding for every colour and material. To achieve the best possible result from each of the proof types the information in the data should be absolutely clear meaning that special colours should be described exactly e.g. Pantone 200 or HKS 13 etc. All proofs differ in the accuracy of the colours and production costs. Colour Accuracy in % Colour Print ISO-Scale CMYK, white paper 50% Special Colours, white paper 50% Epson-Proof ISO-Scale CMYK, white paper 100% Special Colours white paper 80% Roland Proof ISO-Scale CMYK, white paper 100% ISO-Scale CMYK, aluminized paper on white colour 95% ISO-Scale CMYK, aluminized paper without white 85% ISO-Scale CMYK, on white foil 95% ISO-Scale CMYK, on transparent foil on white colour 90% ISO-Scale CMYK, on transparent foil without white 85% Special colours, white paper 90% Special colours, aluminized paper on white colour 85% Special colours, aluminized paper without white 80% Special colours on white foil 90% Special colours on transparent foil on white colour 85% Special colours on transparent foil without white 80% Von den Daten zur Druckfreigabe Seite 4 von 6
Press Proof All colours on all substrates 100% Effort involved in proof preparation The easiest method of proof preparation is the colour print. If we determine this as factor 1 - this results in the following factors for other media. Epson Proof Factor 2 Roland Proof-Factor 4 Press Proof-Factor 50 The colour accuracy doesn t depend solely on the depiction of the colours but also to a strong degree on the surface of the final substrate. The perception of a colour results from the absorbtion and the reflection of light. Due of this the reproduction of colour is influenced by the tolerances in colouring and the surface composition of the substrate. Aluminized paper: the embossing in the paper creates different reflections of light and gives different impressions of the printed colour. Likewise the different natural colourations of aluminium cause contamination of the printed colour. Every colour, especially bright tones like white or yellow appear impurely. With the colour white we counteract with a second white. Still the printed white can never compare with paper white Transparent Foil: here the colours are printed on the colour white. The colour white doesn t possess the opacity of paper which makes it unreachable to achieve the same intensity and purity. Use the Standard, Reach the goal, Together, No problem Von den Daten zur Druckfreigabe Seite 5 von 6
