3 What did we do before the Internet???? We depended on books, catalogs and magazines.

4 The humble beginnings of the Internet An Englishman, Donald Davies from the UK, was working on a program to handle large calculations and connect them with multiple institutions Bob Taylor, a Pentagon official, was in charge of the Pentagon s Advanced Research Project Agency Network program. Allegedly, it was never intended for military purposes, but scientific. He utilized many of the concepts of Donald Davies from the UK, since Donald Davies failed to get any funding for his work. It was clear that sending messages between computers was not the intent but, it was an interesting by-product.

5 By this time it was determined it just was not going to work. To many other systems had been created and they could not figure out how to make them all compatible. However, in the process significant discoveries were made that would result in the creation of the Internet After a tremendous amount of research and development Bob Kahn visited Stanford University and discussed with a Vint Cerf a way to interconnect multiple networks that were not identical The first prototype was tested After several years of technical development a crude version of what we know as the Internet was released. But, not to the public.

6 Allegedly what was to become known as the Internet was released to the public. Nobody knows who first used the word Internet. It just became a shortcut for internetworking. The earliest written use of the word appears to be by Vint Cerf in The rest is history, of which all of us have been a part of.

11 What to do with all those photos?????? First, make sure you have some sort of sequential numbering system, by date set up in your camera. This is helpful if you are on say a 5 day trip. You can refer back to your itinerary and match up the date you were at a specific place, with the data embedded in a specific photograph and know exactly where you were. Make sure you organize your photos as you download them to your computer. Use whatever method you are comfortable with, as there are many different ways. This way, you can find photos taken last week or years ago by having an organized filing system.

12 Determine what you are going to do with all these photos. Do you just want to store them on your computer? Do you want to build a photo web site? Not only for your reference but, to maybe share with others. Do you want to sell your photos? Do you want to make a book? Maybe even publish a book of your photography?
