14 Monitor Calibration Lots of different devices available and some monitors will self-calibrate Best to re-calibrate on a monthly basis or when you start a new project Costs vary from 100 up to 1,500 for professional models
15 Printer Calibration / Profiling Some monitor calibrators will also profile your printer In most cases not necessary these days due to calibration at factory and high quality media profiles, but can be useful to create custom profiles for specialist medias and lighting conditions Commercial printers can feature in-line spectrophotometers, this helps when profiling media on rolls and completes the process automatically

24 Black Point Compensation What is it? What does it do? Should I use it? When BPC is enabled under the relative colorimetric rendering intent, Adobe creates an additional color conversion that adjusts for differences in the black point. Dark colors are shifted towards lighter areas of the destination space to maintain shadow detail. However, certain colors result in chroma shifts due to this transformation. 31 PPi vs DPi What is PPi? Pixels per inch What is DPi? Dots per inch Newspapers often use 85dpi and the effect is clear: individual dots are visible and some detail is lost. Billboards go as low as 45dpi, but you can t tell because you re typically viewing from very far away.
32 Moiré Moiré pattern occurs when a scene or an object that is being photographed contains repetitive details (such as lines, dots, etc) that exceed the sensor resolution. As a result, the camera produces a strangelooking wavy pattern. The same principle applies when the image is printed. If the image resolution or pixels per inch does not match the printers native resolution, these lines can appear on the print. Epson recommends: 360ppi for A2 and smaller 180ppi for above A2
