In them I am struck by the starkness of the walls I feel the struggle of the Occupation was still a wall to climb for many including my family. Yet, the Occupation was over and there was a new Horizon. This to me is shown by my family Looking over the wall, communicating over the wall, looking beyond the walled and gated garden. Jersey was emerging as a playground of friends and beautiful beaches, here, at Ellwyn the Guest House, I still feel a starkness. The eyes show a brokenness, a prison of lost years, to be broken out of, a wall to be scaled and even then there were no guarantees. 8 Projects for 2017 The Earth Day Size: 65cm The Passion s This series of images are my thoughts and work over the last 2 years. By Lent 2017 I hope to have an exhibition ready. The work is based on the 15 th Century Passion s of St Sophia, Novgorod Russia. There are 17 icons in all and they are known as ANALOGION icons, two-sided tablet icons with 16 scenes from the Passion Cycle, plus the Crucifixion. These Passion tablets were brought out and put on the ANALOGION, in the cathedral, on Good Friday during the reading of the 12 Gospels. Features of this icon series: The use of tablets 2-sided icons; painted on wellprimed canvas not wood; complex scenes with many figures with a particular style in order to fit large numbers into a small space. The Earth Day has been one that I have wanted to write for years, my meeting with Lee Durrell proved very inspiring and positive offering a way to approach this icon project. My personal inspiration for this Earth Day is to highlight the need of all people to be stewards of the Earth. I feel that Durrell's considerable work in stewardship and conservation is a necessary ingredient for this Orthodox Christian. Because of the ancient nature of the Orthodox Church's Calendar, it begins with the 1st September each year being celebrated as Creation Day. The following 4 Sundays celebrate an aspect of Creation over a 3 year Cycle. Each ends with the feast of St Francis of Assisi and the Blessing of the Animals. Each Sunday is dedicated to a specific aspect of creation and so lends itself to the visual written Word of God. These cycles of; The Spirit of Creation, The Word of Creation and The Wisdom of Creation give design and substance to the Earth I will write, while at the same time allowing me to be true to the Canon of iconography.
