2 David Altmejd Born in 1974 in Montreal, Canada. Lives and works in New York City, USA. David Altmejd creates sculptures of anthropomorphic figures that, in a process of constant mutation, simultaneously evokes nineteenth century commemorative bronze sculptures as well as the illusion of a digital alteration, often creating a result that is both grotesque and fascinating. The artist s interest lies in the making of the work, which is pursued through the virtuosic use of materials such as plaster, thread, minerals, mirrors, and Plexiglass. In his unconventional sculptures, he combines structures with symbolic elements, and he inspects questions of life and death, but also sexuality, decay, and spirituality. David Altmejd s works have been included in several group exhibitions internationally, such as the Musée d art contemporain de Montréal (Montreal, Canada, 2015), the Musée d Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris, France, 2014), the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (Toronto, Canada, 2014), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Cleveland, USA, 2012), and more. 3 Anne Collier Born in 1970 in Los Angeles, USA. Lives and works in New York, USA. Conceptual artist Anne Collier uses photography as her primary medium of expression. Considering herself to be a still-life photographer, Anne Collier s subjects are other photographs and found medium. Her works dissect the conventions and cliches found in commercial photography, as well as their visual consumption. Some of Anne Collier s most iconic works feature record covers, photography magazine covers, advertisements, book spreads, and film heroines handling cameras. She has a particular interest in revealing the relationship between cameras, female bodies, and the act of looking at these images. The artist is also known for her meticulous staging and lighting, with all of her subjects photographed in isolation against neutral backgrounds. Anne Collier has shown her work widely at international institutions holding solo shows at the Aspen Art Museum (Aspen, USA, 2015), Studio Voltaire (London, UK, 2014), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, USA, 2014), the Hessen Museum of Art (New York, USA). She is due exhibit in groups show at the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France, 2016), as well as the Columbus Museum of Art (Columbus, USA, 2016). 4 Oliver Osborne Born in 1985 in Edinburgh, UK. Lives and works in London, UK. Oliver Osborne is a young Scottish artist whose work juxtapose the abstract and the figurative with deadpan simplicity, often reproducing the cartoons found in language textbooks with painted abstract backgrounds. Confident and knowingly humorous, his ambitiously sized compositions weave a network of connections between abstraction, found images, and photorealism. Oliver Osborne s works offer an engaging discourse both facilitated and confounded by the images that he has sourced from European language textbooks. Though seemingly comic, his technical flawlessness submits a level of mechanical procedure that both humanizes and elevates his artwork to create a highly-worked composition. In 2012, Oliver Osborne was named one of the Bloomberg New Contemporaries. 5 Pamela Rosenkranz Born in 1979 in Sils-Maria, Switzerland. Lives and works between Amsterdam, the Netherlands and New York, USA. Pamela Rosenkranz works, reminiscent of both Conceptual art and Expressionism, are realised in a variety of media that include photography, painting, sculpture, and installations. The artist s work raises fundamental questions related to the human experience, as well as globalisation and consumerism. Though formally understated, Pamela Rosenkranz s ouevre is informed by her extensive research into fields ranging from marketing and medicine to philosophy and religion. The historical avant-gardes also provide a touchstone. Her dynamic and gestural paintings, often rendered with skin-colored pigments, allude formally to Yves Klein s seminal Anthropométries. 6 Teresita Fernández Born in 1968 in Miami, USA. Lives and works in New York, USA. Cuban-American artist Teresita Fernández is best known for her public sculptures and unconventional use of materials, which are transformed with remarkable ability into a whole perceptual experience that often involves the surrounding architecture. Teresita Fernández s paintings are distinguished by her poetic exploration of materials such as graphite on wood panels. These works possess a deep-grey metallic sheen, showcasing the luminous quality of natural raw graphite with its close connection to diamonds, which have the same chemical composition. Her artistic references are diverse, encompassing traditional artistic techniques from Baroque-era ceiling painting and the conventions of landscape paintings, to the works of Land artist Robert Smithson and Minimalist Donald Judd. Teresita Fernández is a 2005 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts artist s grant winner, an American Academy in Rome Affiliated Fellow, and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Award recipient. In 2011, President Obama appointed Fernández to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, a federal panel that advises the President, Congress, and governmental agencies on national matters of design and aesthetics. Her work is included in numerous major private collections as well as the permanent collections of the Bennesee Art Site (Naoshima, Japan), the MoMA (New York, USA), the Museum of ContemporaryArt (Miami, USA), the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, USA), the Sammlung Goetz (Munich, Germany), the Castello di Rivoli (Turin, Italy) and many more. 7 George Condo Born in 1957 in Concord, USA. Lives and works in New York, USA. George Condo is one of the most acclaimed American artists working in the medium of painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. He emerged in the East Village art scene and, along with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, was instrumental in the international revival of painting from the 1980s onwards. In his works, Condo shows his ability to play with abstract shapes and figurative themes. He coined the term Artificial Realism, referring to the realistic representation of that which is artificial in order to describe his hybridisation of traditional European Old Master painting with a sensibility informed by American Pop, a process that creates his unique vision inspired by all of these sources. He has also been crucial for the artists of the following generations, showing how the history of painting could be used in a way that is not appropriated.
