Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Step this way to see the incredible Simulated 3D! Simulated 3D Vision: Research, Education and In Your Office Commentary, Review,, Discussion Shun nan Yang, PhD Len Scrogan Leonard J. Press, O.D., FCOVD, FAAO Dominick M. Maino, OD, MEd, FAAO, FCOVD A 3D Cinema: Future Or Fad? cinema future or fad/.3d has been very consistent over the last 4 years, so at the moment it seems that it is going to stick around for a few years at least. Studios just make too much money from new releases and re releases to stop it simply because of some peoples opinions. For me, 3D can continue to be shown in cinemas just as long as the option for a 2D alternative still exists.. 3D movie revenues hit all time low in US, 'The Wolverine' is 'worst yet movie revenues hit all time low inus the wolverine is worst yet.html 3D in 2013: Exhibitors project on the future of stereoscopic cinema From 2009 to 2010, the amount of box office from 3D films doubled, rising from $1.1 billion of the U.S./Canada box office to $2.2 billion, according to MPAA reported figures. The industry was riding high, and studios rushed to release movies either filmed in or converted to 3D. But the very next year, instead of continuing its meteoric rise, 3D box office declined 20%, to a total of $1.8 billion. As initial interest in the format waned, Hollywood was still ramping up its 3D product, leading to a situation where supply rose as demand weakened.. andfeatures/features/cinemas/e3ibaaa998fe66e7ae09c0977c19cfedf56 New tech could mean 3D movies with no glasses movies no glasses/index.html The new method would allow movie theaters to keep their projectors where they've always been, behind the audience, and uses fairly simple optical technology. A special array sits in front of the projector and polarizes its light. A filter covering the screen then obscures different vertical regions of the screen, like the slats of venetian blinds. Each of your eyes, sitting at a slightly different angle, has some of the screen blocked and some of the screen visible. The movie has the right eye and left eye images interleaved in vertical columns with one another. The trick then is to have the light visible to your left eye contain the left eye pixels and vice versa for the right eye. No glasses 3 D movie theaters are getting closer to reality glasses 3 d movie theaters are getting closerreality South Korean researchers have created a new method to show 3 D movies without a need for glasses or extra projectors. The method is similar to existing ones but adds a new twist literally D TV is dead ExtremeTech 3d tv is dead At CES 2012, you couldn t move for 3D TVs, ugly polarizing spectacles, and because the viewer at home can t take part in the awesomeness that is 3D those awful, it s so real it sbursting out of the screen posters. At IFA the big, mid year consumer electronics event in Berlin it was clear that 3D TV was on its way out. Today, at CES 2013, 3D TV is dead.. IFA: Move over 3D, it s time for 4K UHDTV ifa move over 3d its time for 4k uhdtv After five years of trying to convince us that 3D TVs are the future, it seems TV makers are finally ready to move on to 4K UHDTV. At the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, Sony, Toshiba, and LG are all showing off 84 inch 4K ( ) TVs. These aren t just vaporware, either: LG s TV is on sale now in Korea (and later this month in the US), Sony s is due later this year, and Toshiba will follow in the new year. 3D TV, Without the Glasses tv without glasses. The result was a high resolution video display that allowed viewers to see full 3D images from 14 different viewing zones.. At a gadget show packed with fancy TVs showing off their ultra highdefinition tricks, Vizio had something genuinely novel on display: 3 D video that can be viewed without glasses. 3d tvces/index.html 5 6 1
Future Talk 3D talk.blogspot.com/ The 3D in Education White Paper studies/the 3d in education white paper/... Teachers were asked to note the pupils retention (memory) after one month, both in terms of qualitative and quantitative differences between the retention in the 3D based learning and the non 3D based cohorts. Open ended tasks were given to determine the impact both on retention and on recall. The teachers noted changes in the manner in which the 3D and 2D pupils recalled the learning. For example: The 3D pupils were more likely to use gestures or body language when describing concepts The 3D learners had better ordering (sequence) of concepts The knowledge of concepts was greater in the 3D cohorts (especially when a new concept had been introduced through 3D) The 3D cohort had enhanced skills in describing their learning including writing more, saying more and being more likely to use models to show learning So is S 3D Really Dead or only a Mostly Dead? Miracle Max: Whoo hoo hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do. 7 8 So is Simulated 3D Dead? 9 10 Simulated 3D Technology will change. The use of simulated 3D will continue in all it s forms And You still will need binocular vision to full immerse yourself into the experience What s New? Continue to get the word out with the help of Floyd Mizener, OD, PhD and Willis Johnson President of Classic Cinemas International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society COVD Fellow Dr. Ingryd Lorenzana Eye Care Professional of the Year
S 3D as a Public Health Issue/Binocular Vision Dysfunction as a Public Health Issue The S 3D Consumer So our ability to help those who cannot benefit from the Simulated 3D experience will continue to need our unique skills Maino s Minions have questions. Do you have? The research seems to show that the symptoms associated with binocular vision problems are weaker and limited and that the motion sickness symptoms are significant and linger. If this is correct, why do my patients always complain about the symptoms associated with the BV problems and seldom about those related to visually induced motion sickness? Why do those viewing 3D at home report more symptoms (20%) than those at the movie theater (10%)?
Could you tell us more about this disconnect that occurs between accommodation and vergence when watching simulated 3D? Do young viewers have more symptoms than adults because adults view simulated 3D less often or avoid 3D as much as possible? Why is 36 minutes of simulated 3D viewing critical for the appearance of symptoms? Since viewing S3D in the classroom typically takes less time than this, do we have to worry about S3D in the classroom? Since we know in S3D the image of the object is at the plane of the screen, but we perceive the image to be closer to us, does a psychocognitive dissonance add to the symptoms that some experience? How often do teachers experience 3D Vision Syndrome in the classroom? Do teachers know that when their students have S3D symptoms to refer to an appropriate doctor?
Do patients with appropriate vision function suffer from 3D Vision Syndrome? 25 5
