2 Digital Laser Material Processing Technology (DLMPT) Digital laser material processing is a rapid transformation of digital information using non-contact, highly accurate materials modification processes. Through the use of Universal s laser technology, users can process an endless number of materials available today and in the future. Lasers allow a customer to use the materials modification processes of laser cutting, engraving, marking or photo imaging on almost any material. The applications for Universal s laser material processing technology are truly limitless. 4 How Universal s DLMPT Works: To perform a single material modification process on a material or multiple processes (in any combination), simply follow these steps: Step 1: Design Your File Design in your software of choice. Virtually any graphic design or CAD software that has a print function can be used including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, CorelDRAW and many other programs. Step 2: Print or Import Your File Figure A: Print sends design file to Laser System Figure B: The Universal Control Panel controls the laser system. Designs are transferred to the UCP for processing by the laser system. Print via our Windows driver or import a.pdf or.dxf using Universal s Direct Import software. Imported files can be created in any operating system including Windows and Mac OS. Printed or imported files are displayed on the Universal Control Panel (UCP - See Fig. B). The UCP allows you to preview the file before processing your material. Step 3: Select Material Select material from Universal s extensive material database.

5 Step 4: Load Material Load the material you selected in the Materials Database by placing it in the laser system. No tooling is required. Step 5: Press Go Press go The laser system will process the material based on the design file sent to the Universal Control Panel (UCP). 7 Universal Laser Systems manufactures laser sources that range in power from 10 watts to 150 watts and are available in three wavelengths: 10.6µm, 9.3µm, 1.06µm. Multi-Wavelength Technology Universal s Multi-wavelength platform is engineered to support three different types of wavelengths to process the broadest possible spectrum of materials: 1.06-micron fiber wavelength light, 9.3-micron CO2 wavelength light and 10.6-micron CO2 wavelength light. SuperSpeed SuperSpeed allows two lines of a raster image to be produced simultaneously. High Power Density Focusing Optics High Power Density Focusing Optics (HPDFO) allows the laser beam to be focused to a much smaller spot size to achieve greater detail. It also allows for direct marking on some bare metals with a CO2 laser, without the use of metal marking compounds. 1-Touch Laser Photo 1-Touch Laser Photo software makes any photographic image suitable for laser engraving on materials. The software determines the appropriate contrast, filter and gray scale levels, then calculates the ideal laser settings based on the material you select.
