On that way they get the opportunity to contribute to their communities as well as the whole society, which brings them into the group of the most distinguished citizens. This is why entrepreneurs are vital for developed economies as well as those that are developing. In transition economies, entrepreneurship is one of the most significant chances for development. Encouragement and support to entrepreneurs is important for the whole national economy. Croatia has entrepreneurs who give a great contribution to its economy and can provide crucial support in the process of recovering the country from the global crisis and bringing its transition process to an end. As building a better working world is a priority for EY globally, our goal is to help improve business environment in Croatia. Therefore we want to promote the best Croatian entrepreneurs and provide them with the opportunity to stand side by side with the world s best. This year, for the first time in Croatia, EY will award the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year. Croatia will join the 60 counties where the world s most prestigious award for entrepreneurs is held. In 2015, Croatian Entrepreneur of the Year will join other national winners in Monte Carlo and compete for the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year award. In an increasingly challenging global world, it is the entrepreneurs who will lead the way from innovative products and services, to complex sectors like high technology and even health care. That is why entrepreneurs should be encouraged, supported and honored. Entrepreneur Of The Year award aims to promote the best of the entrepreneurial sector in each country that participates, and encourage others to follow the footsteps of the best. The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year is an integral part of EY s corporate strategy. Support to entrepreneurship is one of the four pillars of our concept of corporate responsibility. We promote entrepreneurs because they create new jobs and develop their communities. This is why for 28 years EY has been celebrating individuals who create and build successful and dynamic companies. The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year is a worldwide program implemented at regional, national and global level, in more than 145 cities and 60 countries. Candidates come from different industrial sectors and their companies are in different stages of life cycles. They are accomplished business leaders driven not only by their entrepreneurial spirit but also exceptional motivation that makes them special. Their life stories are different but they are all connected by their continuous commitment to success. The winner of The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year will represent Croatia on the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year event that takes place in Monte Carlo each year. By taking part in the EY Entrepreneur of The Year program, leaders of entrepreneurship in Croatia will get the opportunity to increase their business network and learn about regional and global leaders of entrepreneurship. Successful entrepreneurs around the globe do not consider the EY Entrepreneur of The Year an opportunity for shortterm gain in public relations, but a long-term opportunity to acquire new clients and generate new revenue from the existing contacts. Participation in the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program does not involve any costs or obligations from candidates. 6 Rules of participation and transparency of the process Candidates for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year award must meet the following general conditions: deserving credit for business success of the proper company or the company the candidate works for, with at least 2 years in a managerial position continuously; a significant ownership stake in the company. If it is a joint stock company, the candidate must be a co-owner or have a status which allows him/her a key influence on decision making and functioning of the board of directors; the company cannot be a subsidiary or representative office of a foreign company; if the company is run by a management team, the maximum number of candidates for the award is three team members. The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year award is granted by the independent jury that contains no representatives of EY. Independent jury comprises experienced business leaders who are able to recognize new leaders and their successes, as well as entrepreneurship experts from academic or other areas. Independent jury makes a decision based on a global evaluation criteria that, in addition to general conditions, include: entrepreneurial spirit innovation strategic direction financial indicators national or regional reach individual and corporate responsibility 6 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year
