2 BALLOT FOR OFFICERS PRESIDENT-ELECT (Cast One Vote) Juliette Delabbio Dr. Julie Delabbio has been associated with the World Aquaculture Society since 1988 and has been a member of its Board for six years. Her involvement as Secretary and her participation in various committees have provided her with a thorough understanding of the workings of the Society. She is a long-time member of the US Chapter of WAS and is a Past-president of the Aquaculture Association of Canada. Julie has three decades of experience in aquaculture as a teacher, researcher and industry specialist. Her work at Northwestern State University of Louisiana included cultivation of freshwater fish, crustaceans and aquatic plants. She has published extensively on new technologies to increase farm production. Currently, she coordinates research projects world-wide for an Ag Tech company (Once Innovations, Inc) on a variety of aquaculture and agriculture species. Julie believes that diligent and harmonious work is needed by the WAS Board to further advance the involvement of regional chapters, especially those from regions where aquaculture is vibrant and growing, like Asia and Latin America. Julie is a member of the Latin American and Asian-Pacific Chapters and was heavily involved in the formation of the Korean Chapter of WAS. If elected, Julie would like to place emphasis on: (1) Exploring practical ways to increase membership from countries that are active in aquaculture. (2) Using social media to reach-out to members and enhance participation in Society activities, and (3) Keeping Society activities and publications relevant and readily accessible to the membership. Rebecca Lochmann Dr. Rebecca Lochmann is a Professor of Aquaculture/ Fish Nutrition at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the U.S. A member of WAS since 1989, she has served as Director and President of the US Chapter and is currently serving her second term as Secretary of WAS and Chair of the Policies, Rules and Regulations committee. Other committee activities (US Chapter and/or WAS) include Publications, Student Activities, Awards, Elections, Finance and Long-Range Planning, and ad hoc efforts to increase WAS membership in under-represented countries. Rebecca has been involved in the planning and implementation of WAS and USAS conferences through service on steering and program committees, and as session organizer/facilitator and judge of student presentations. Her vision is to strengthen the ability of WAS to promote and expand responsible aquaculture worldwide, by improving communication and coordination of efforts among different sectors of WAS and external stakeholders. Rebecca is interested in running for this position because this is a transitional and exciting time in our organization - we have identified and begun to implement activities designed to make us a truly global organization. Many challenges remain, but WAS is well-positioned to become the premier organization for aquaculture professionals. To do this we must grow and diversify our membership, while working to ensure that WAS membership remains valuable and relevant to our current members. Chapter formation and maintenance are vitally important to expanding and maintaining membership in underrepresented countries. If elected, the development of more definitive policies regarding Chapters would be a highpriority initiative.

She has worked with Sister Cities of Louisville KY in Ghana to also evaluate aquaculture potential and development in several areas in Ghana. Ms. Caporelli has shown long-term commitment in educating and promoting aquaculture and the vision of WAS in the years to come.

4 DIRECTOR (Cast Two Votes) Imad Saoud Carole Engle I have worked in aquaculture for nearly 30 years. I started by taking a job at a shrimp farm right out of college and never stopped. I joined WAS in 1993 and earned my doctorate in aquaculture from Auburn University in I believe that the only way we will be able to properly feed future generations is through aquaculture. I also believe that for aquaculture to succeed we need to work together as a planet and not isolate ourselves in our individual countries with trade and economic barriers to development. I have worked in Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and Central America and have always tried to make connections among institutions and countries while improving local production. I have also worked with all kinds of aquaculture species from crustaceans to mollusks to vertebrates. In WAS, I have worked on several committees, but believe the most important one was the promotions and membership committee. I would like to work towards increasing membership but also increasing connections among members from various regions to the benefit of all. Dr. Carole Engle has been active in the World Aquaculture Society since joining in 1988 and has worked to strengthen the association in a variety of ways. She has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of the World Aquaculture Society since A past-president and former director of the USAS (US-WAS Chapter), Carole was active on the USAS board during the development of student subunits and actively encouraged students at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) to form one of the first subunits. She used her involvement and leadership in both WAS and the International Association of Aquaculture Economics & Management (IAAEM) to foster a closer relationship. Since then, IAAEM has organized a session each year at both the international and USAS meetings, bringing in even more economists each year to both meetings. Carole has rarely missed an annual meeting in her 25 years of membership in WAS, where she has organized and moderated numerous sessions. Carole is an Aquaculture Economist with more than 35 years experience in the analysis of economics and marketing issues related to aquaculture businesses. She has worked in 19 different countries on all major continents. She has published over 100 scientific articles, serves on the editorial board of several journals. She also serves on the U.S.Secretary of Agriculture s Adv. Comm. on Statistics, and the Seafood Watch Science Advisory Board. Honors include receiving the McCraren Award from the National Aquaculture Association, Researcher of the Year from the Catfish Farmers of America, Distinguished Service Award from the Catfish Farmers of America, and the Harvey McGeorge Award of Distinguished Contributions to Agriculture. Engle holds Ph.D. degree from Auburn University. Engle currently directs the Aquaculture/Fisheries Center and chairs the Dept. of Aquaculture and Fisheries at UAPB. Carole is willing to serve where needed. However, she has a particular interest in the Industry Relations, Student Affairs and Publications. Overall, she would like to work with other board members and the leadership to increase the role that WAS plays globally in the growth and development of aquaculture. She would work to enhance the visibility of WAS through its publications and expanded services to members (through student activities and outreach to scientific and industry communities.

5 Jose Fernandez Polanco Jose Fernandez Polanco is a Ph.D in economics and management and is Professor of marketing research at the University of Cantabria (Spain). In the last two decades he has focused his research interest on seafood consumption and marketing, actively participating in several national and international research projects for public and private institutions. As a result of this research activity he has published several official reports and articles and regularly presents his findings and results at the most relevant international conferences on aquaculture and fisheries economics. He has worked with several different species and markets from all over the world, whether wild or farmed, participating as researcher and external consultant in recent FAO projects. As an expert in the field of seafood markets he has frequently contributed to high level international experts groups of the United Nations and the European Commission. He is also an active member of the World Aquaculture Society, taking responsibility of coordinating the scientific program at the Asian Pacific conference in 2011 (India) and the World Aquaculture Conferences in 2012 (Czech Republic) and 2014 (Australia). After an enriching and constructive experience as program manager in three WAS conferences since 2010, and having served at the Elections Committee, I am happy to contribute to the Society more actively. Serving at the board provides such kind of opportunity. Given my expertise in WAS committees and other international working groups, I believe I can do a good work in the fields of relations with chapters and other external organizations, promotion, and planning conferences and other scientific events. I can, anyway, accommodate to the duties of any committee the board would assign me. Zuridah Merican Zuridah Merican is the owner and editor of Aquaculture Asia Pacific, a magazine that strives to be the beacon for the regional aquaculture industry. She is well known and highly recognised by the public sector, academia and the industry in Asia, primarily and the rest of the world. She has been providing information to the Asia Pacific industry for the past 10 years. She is based in Kuala Lumpur. She began her career in aquaculture and fisheries with the Department of Fisheries, Malaysia in While in Singapore, she carried out assessments on the mariculture industry and a review on the feed industry in Asia. This was followed with consultancies on the industry in Asia for European companies. When she was based in Europe, Zuridah was the editor of UK based International Aquafeed Magazine for four years and then Asian Aquaculture for three years when she returned to Asia.Zuridah obtained her BSc in Zoology at the University of London and obtained her MSc. in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling, Scotland. She completed her PhD at the National University of Singapore in 1996 working on the fatty acid nutritional requirements of the marine shrimp P. monodon. Zuridah has been a member of WAS for 15 years, serving on the Asian Chapter board for 3 terms. She also served as secretary of the Malaysian Fisheries Society for 3 terms until 2012 and is now a council member. She was the secretary of the Asian Fisheries Society in She would like to see a larger representation from Asia amongst WAS membership and offers herself as a candidate for the position of Director. With her extensive network, she would also be able to bring in more contributions from the private sector and other international industry stakeholders to WAS. As Zuridah has built up a good network with industry and the aquaculture fraternity, in particular in Asia, she would like to offer to be a member of the committee on Industry relations. She believes that the global aquaculture industry needs to integrate to move forward. Her goal would be to get more participation from industry in Asia into the activities of the global aquaculture industry. She is confident that she can serve the society well and reach its goals for a larger participation of the private, public and academic sectors in aquaculture.
