4 Curtis Tigard was born on April 13,

8 Curt s parents, Rosa Hohman and Charles Fremont Tigard Charles was born in 1860, Rosa in 1870 Married on May 22 nd,

9 Charles F. Tigard served two terms in the Oregon Legislature and was the first postmaster for Tigard. The post office was located in his General Store, which was located on the northeast corner of McDonald Street & Hwy 99, near the current Goodwill store. 9

Marvin Gaarde, Curt, and Leonard Thomas relax in the grass in front of the house. On Armistice Day, Curt and his friends rang the church bells to announce 11 the end of WWI.

12 This was the East Butte Grade School. It was built around In 1918 Curt and Marvin Gaarde rescued books from their school as it burned. 12

14 As a teenager, Curt attended Beaverton High School because Tigard hadn t built one yet. Curt lived with friends in Beaverton during the week and came home on weekends to help on the farm. 14

15 After graduating from high school, Curt attended Oregon Agricultural College (now OSU). Tuition was $12 per term then and is currently $8,538 per year. 15

16 In his freshman year, Curt and five friends rented a house; sharing cooking and laundry duties. He also joined the Army ROTC program which paid him $57 per quarter. By the time he graduated, Curt was a 2nd Lieutenant. 16

17 1929 brought the stock market crash and the beginning of the great depression. Here is Curt s OCA graduation picture from

18 In 1935, Curt went to work for US National Bank in Albany, Oregon. He was also a member of the Army Reserves and was stationed at Ft. Vancouver Barracks. 18

19 Then came December 7 th,

20 Like so many Americans during that time, Curt joined the war effort to help achieve victory over enemy forces. He served initially in North Africa, working to drive the Nazis out of Casablanca. He later served in Italy as the German army retreated. 20

21 In 1944, Curt moved to Washington DC where he worked at The Pentagon, scouring military records for officers who were qualified to lead the invasion of Japan, an event he says thankfully never happened. 21

22 The end of the war brought time for family activities and fun. 22

23 Back in civilian life, Curt went to work for US Bank, serving as the Tigard Branch Manager for eighteen years. 23

24 After retiring from US Bank, Curt had time for more fun activities, like golf with his buddies in Palm Springs. 24

27 A trip to Africa puts Curt on the Equator in Kenya. Take a close look at Curt s native necklace that s a chain of live snakes! Curt has nerves of steel. 27

29 and attempts to make a clean getaway on a horse of a different color in Sicily. 29

30 Curt has always been active in the Tigard community. Here he clowns around at the local grocery. 30
