CALL TO ORDER The Board of Education of the Borough of Hillsdale held a Worksession/ Regular Meeting in the Lucia A. Drake Media Center, George G. White School on Monday, December 8, The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Mr. James D. Hayden, Jr., President and Presiding Officer. 2. SALUTE TO THE FLAG 3. OPENING STATEMENT The New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law was enacted to insure the right of the public to have advance notice and to attend the meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their interests is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with the provisions of the Act, the Hillsdale Board of.education has caused notice of this meeting to be published by having the date, time and place thereof posted at the Hillsdale Borough Hall, Hillsdale A venue, Hillsdale; the Hillsdale Public Library, 509 Hillsdale A venue, Hillsdale; the Hillsdale Board of Education Office, 32 Ruckman Road, Hillsdale; and sent to the Board's designated newspapers: The Record, and the Ridgewood News on January 7, This meeting's agenda has been posted and sent to The Ridgewood News and The Record on December 4, ROLLCALL Members Present Mrs. Maryann Martino Dr. Tim Santo Mrs. Krista Flinn Mr. James D. A Motion was made by Trustee Santo, seconded by Trustee Flinn to accept the resignation of Mrs. Maryann Martino from the Hillsdale Board of Education effective January 1, Motion passed by consensus vote: 3-0.

3 WORKSESSION/REGULAR MINUTES DECEMBER 8, PERSONNEL COMMITTEE: MARYANN MARTINO, CHAIRPERSON; TIM SANTO, MEMBER Moved by Trustee Martino, seconded by Trustee Santo that the Board approve the following Personnel recommendation: BP. APPROVAL OF MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL; APPROVED MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL It is recommended that the Board approve, as per the Superintendent's recommendation, the appointment of Donald Bergamini as Principal of George G. White School effective January 2015 at Step 2 of the Administrator's Salary Guide, $128,626 plus $1,500 middle school stipend for a total salary of $130,126 prorated for the school year. Further provisions to be in accordance with the employment contract and the negotiated agreement between the Hillsdale Board of Education and the Hillsdale Association of School Administrators. Motion passed by roll call vote: Mr. James D. Hayden, Jr., President and Presiding Officer called a recess at 7:22p.m. 6. MOTION TO RECONVENE MEETING MOTIONED TO RECONVENE Moved by Trustee Santo, seconded by Trustee Martino that the Board moved to reconvene to the Worksession/Regular meeting at 7:40p.m. 7. HEARING OF CITIZENS AND DELEGATIONS CONCERNING ITEMS ON AGENDA HEARING OF CITIZENS AND DELEGATIONS No dialogue transpired and no comments were made regarding the items on the agenda.

APPROVAL OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM CANDIDATE; APPROVED EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM CANDIDATE It is recommended that the Board approve, as per the Superintendent's recommendation, William Paterson University student, Helene K. Prevosti to shadow Angela Iskenderian for six hours for her program to become a school principal. 2P. APPROVAL OF FOURTH GRADE MONITOR; APPROVED FOURTH GRADE MONITOR It is recommended that the Board retroactively approve, as per the Superintendent's recommendation, Deanna Neisen-DeFalco as sole Meadowbrook Fourth Grade Monitor for the school year at the rate of $ (Stipend to be adjusted upon the conclusion of negotiations between the Hillsdale Board of Education and the Hillsdale Education Association.)

APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR SERVICES WITH BERGEN COUNTY SPECIAL SERVICES SCHOOL DISTRICT (BCSS) FOR WORKSHOP(S) APPROVED CONTRACT FOR SERVICES WITH BERGEN COUNTY SPECIAL SERVICES SCHOOL DISTRICT (BCSS) FOR WORKSHOPS It is recommended that the Board approve the contract for services with Bergen County Special Services School District (BCSS) to provide workshop(s) for a maximum of three (3) hours on P ARCC Accessibility features for fifty (50) participants to be held on January 19, 2015 at a rate not to exceed $635. NEW BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS Mr. Spirito mentioned that Mr. Albano visited George White School and that the faculty/ staff was very welcoming towards him. Mr. Albano will be visiting the elementary schools next week. Mr. Spirito thanked Mrs. Maryann Martino for all her services to the community and to the Board of Education. 11. SECOND HEARING OF CITIZENS ON ANY TOPIC OF CONCERN SECOND HEARING OF CITIZENS Kim Schmidt - George White Teacher - mentioned the following: Last vote budget didn't pass and that the Board of Education forfeited its eligibility on the banked cap Michael Rosenberg- George White Teacher- mentioned the additional monies taken out for health benefits and the savings from the health benefits were is it? Ann Marie Garrett- George White Teacher- Mentioned the 1 to 1 initiative; and asked about the timeline, and where is the money coming from Darren Vaniskhian- George White Teacher- mentioned the lack of technology available to the teachers, that the internet is only available when in the classrooms and not on personal devices. Mr. Spirito mentioned that there are security concerns and right now nothing is in place Mr. Albano mentioned how other districts are reconsidering personal devices having access to the internet by their employees Jessica Balzano- Smith Teacher- Student data on realtime. She disagrees with student data concerns regarding technology and WiFi access Kim Wymbs - commented on negotiations Mr. Hayden mentioned the December 22nd mediation date. Donna Rosenbaum- Smith Teacher- wanted to know the attorney rate. Mrs. Garcia answered $165 /hour for partner Discussion ensued regarding the wireless network by teachers on personal devices. Jessica Balzano- Smith School- mentioned cost of phone system ($549,000); and that there are toilets covered at White School that are in need of repair. MikeMaione- Requested that the Board of Education address Dr. Santo's previous comment about personal wireless access which was given before but no longer at White School Krista Martin - said teachers are forced to do more than ever and is disappointed that they have to fight for more money; and that the Board of Education should show them appreciation for what they are doing

16 12 WORKSESSIONfREGULAR MINUTES DECEMBER 8, 2014 A question arose regarding the average contribution of teachers medical benefits Emily Perlman- Support teachers Kim Wymbs said that Pascack Valley Regional High School is moving forward with referendum above 2% budget cap and, also, mentioned that Pascack Valley Regional High School does really well with referendums Mrs. Garcia addressed what a 2nd question on a budget is versus a referendum Mr. Hayden moved to motion to give permission to the Business Administrator/Board Secretary to place an advertisement and to process whatever paperwork necessary to fill the Board Vacancy, motion was seconded by Trustee Flinn. Moved by Trustee Santo, seconded by Trustee Flinn that the Board move the meeting to an Executive Session at 8:30 p.m. 12. EXECUTIVE SESSION EXECUTIVE SESSION WHEREAS, the Open Public Meetings Act and the Hillsdale Board of Education reserve the right within the constraints of State Law to sit in Executive Session, and WHEREAS, there now exists a need for this Board of Education to meet in Executive Session, now therefore BE IT RESOLVED that the Hillsdale Board of Education recess into Executive Session to discuss exempt matters pertaining to negotiations, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the public will be informed 1. When the Board reconvenes to the Worksession/Regular Meeting business portion of this meeting this evening; or 2. At a later date, undetermined at this time. Moved by Trustee Santo, seconded by Trustee Martino that the Board adjourn the Executive Session and reconvene to the public meeting at 9:24 p.m. 13.
