2 17 GOALS TO TRANSFORM OUR WORLD A Action BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with 17 SDGs and 169 targets, is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. The SDGs are universal, transcend borders and apply across the workplace, marketplace and community. The SDGs are deeply interconnected i.e progress on one goal can have a signi cant impact on progress in meeting others. Business cannot thrive in a world of poverty, inequality, unrest and environmental stress, and so it has a vital interest in ensuring the 2030 Agenda is delivered. In the Indian context, as India witnesses higher growth rates and transforms itself into the New India, it is imperative that SDGs reside as the underlying framework for businesses to achieve sustainable growth. The implementation path to achieving SDGs would not only help India grow but also help us sustain our growth and our society without taking away what we owe to our future generations. As we inch towards creating the New India, we need to understand what needs to be done and act now!
