3 Israel is an innovation superpower. Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Novartis, Nestle and many others are located there. Check Point is just one of the many start-up success stories. Israel has more companies listed on NASDAQ than any other country except the United States. (Dan Senor & Saul Singer, Start-up Nation, 2009) 3 Teva - a pharmaceutical company with a global market capitalization of $43 billion. Cherry Tomatoes This popular Cultivar of tomato was developed in Israel and is sold worldwide. The seeds of the tomatoes are one of Israel s most important export industries. Disk On Key - The Israeli invention of a data storage device Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface, led to a revolution in the technology world. ICQ - The first Internet-wide instant messaging service was developed by an Israeli company. In 2001, ICQ had over 100 million accounts registered and in 1998, was sold for $407 million.

4 4 Israelis innovate because they have to. The land is arid, so they excel at water and agricultural technology. They are surrounded by enemies, so their military technology is superb and creates lucrative spin-offs, especially in communications. The relationships forged during military service foster frenetic networking in civilian life. The results are the envy of almost everyone outside Silicon Valley. (Economist, January 2012) Drippers A drip irrigation method that is manufactured by the Israeli company Netafim with global sales of $232 million. There are currently about 40 billion Netafim drip irrigation systems in more than 20 million acres of territory around the world. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Israel developed the first modern aircraft without a human pilot onboard. The UAV had tremendous operational success over the years and is used by the U.S. military as well. Check Point - A security specialist founded by veterans of Unit 8200, an elite army intelligence group. It is valued at $11 billion.

6 6 Ventures created by students at IDC Herzliya LabPixies - A leading provider of personalized web content and technology through quality interactive components ( Gadgets ) for the personalized environment. LabPixies was acquired by Google in Wibiya - Enables web publishers to integrate multiple services, applications and widgets into their environment through customized web-based toolbars. Wibiya was recently sold to Conduit for $45 million. The Gifts Project - A social commerce platform that enables users to give and receive group gifts on social networks and ecommerce websites. The company s founder formed a strategic partnership with ebay during their studies at IDC and sold it to ebay in September PicScout - Established itself as the market leader in monitoring the use of images on the web. PicApp, a spin-off of the mother company in 2008, introduced online publishers and bloggers to a single source for millions of free premium-quality pictures. Both were sold in 2011 to competitors Getty Images and Ybrandt respectively.

7 7 FunkKit - Stickers-for-Sneakers combines technology, community and art to footwear with a range of exciting and trendy stick-on designs to customize shoes. Sold in retails stores, mall stands and as promotional campaigns in Japan, Korea, Brazil and Paraguay. Developed by IDC students. PrimeSense - An Israeli semiconductor company founded in 2005 by IDC students. Their patented technological breakthroughs have made them the leading B2B provider of 3D machine vision technologies. The company was selected by MIT technological review as one of world's 50 most innovative companies for Shaker - Israeli startup application of a virtual bar social game on facebook. Shaker won the TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco 2011 Virtual and recently closed a $15 million round of financing.

8 8 Arison School of Business Israel and the Jewish nation foster a business climate in which risk is embraced and good ideas are given a chance to grow. (Dan Senor & Saul Singer, Start-up Nation, 2009) Although the Arison School of Business is quite young, its academic faculty already has a worldwide reputation in various fields and especially in marketing and finance. The school, which was established about 15 years ago, is growing fast in terms of both faculty and students. It has both undergraduate and graduate programs and both local and international MBA programs. Students can specialize in a variety of topics such as marketing, finance, innovation, entrepreneurship and consulting. The school has recently introduced two exciting tracks in the global MBA program: innovation and entrepreneurship and global business leadership. These tracks are being taught in English in addition to the veteran track global strategic management The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Track includes theoretical courses in human-computer interaction, design thinking and entrepreneurship. Students practice innovation and entrepreneurship first hand as they design and prototype new digital products and learn how to bring them to market. IDSeeds, the IDC Entrepreneurship Club is a platform for creating and encouraging initiatives among students. The club s activities include, among other pursuits, the Start Up Class program to establish ventures with the assistance of mentors who are leaders in the Israeli business sector and in establishing start-up companies. Alongside the theoretical knowledge that students acquire, the club places great emphasis on providing practical tools to every student in the various fields of entrepreneurship.

9 Research the Arison School of Business 9 The faculty of the Arison School of Business is productive and has had an impressive impact. It is led by the groups in marketing and finance that are considered by some to be among the best outside of the US. For example, all of the finance professors appeared in the list of leading scholars in a study titled most prolific authors in finance literature: At the same time, all the senior faculty in marketing are on the editorial boards of the leading journals in marketing and most of them also hold the position of associate editors or editors in such journals. For example, recently, two faculty members were elected as the new editors of the leading European journal in this field the International Journal of Research in Marketing. The Arison School of Business is home to researchers such as: Prof. Barak Libai is a world-class researcher on customer relationship management and in particular the impact of customer to customer interactions as they pertain to customer equity and lifetime value assessments. Prof. Roni Michaely is a world leader in the research in corporate finance and valuation and in particular on conflict of interest in capital markets and the pricing and design of trading mechanisms of IPOs.

10 10 Interesting Facts about IDC Herzliya One in four of the new students at IDC Herzliya come from outside Israel. The academic year began with 2,350 new students, of whom 1,800 are undergraduates and 550 are graduates. This brings the student body to 6,367. At the recent International Humanitarian Law Competition, held in France, IDC Herzliya placed first, for the second consecutive year, defeating the Geneva Academy of Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, and over forty other universities all over the world. The recent conference by the Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) hosted 1,300 participants from 60 different countries at the IDC campus for the largest conference of its kind in the world. The Zell Entrepreneurship Program for outstanding undergraduates at IDC Herzliya has created companies that have attracted $100 million in investments in less than a decade. The Radzyner School of Law is running 12 probono law clinics around the State of Israel in order to assist needy individuals. An international committee appointed by the Ministry of Education has submitted an extremely positive review of the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy s achievements and reputation in Israel and abroad. The council for higher education recently conducted a survey on how Israeli institutions of higher education relate to their students and the student's level of service and satisfaction. IDC was ranked number one in the country in most parameters.
