Barton #67619, b. 24 December 1782 in Leicester, Massachusetts, USA, 4,5,6 occupation 1861 Hatter, occupation 1870 Township Clerk, d. 12 August 1870 in Demorestville, Sophiasburgh Township, Prince Edward, Canada, 7 buried in Demorestville Cemetery, Prince Edward County. 8 According to "Pioneer Life in the Bay of Quinte" (1904), Samuel came to Canada at the suggestion of his brother-in--law Guilliaume Demorest. He arrived via bateaux from Sackett's Harbor to Kingston, thence from Kingston to Conger's Mill, near Picton. He had three children born in New York state. 1871: Age at death given as "88 years, 7 months and 17 days". He married Margaret Burdett #67620, b. c 1787 in Schenectady, New York, USA, 9 (daughter of John P. Burdett #73229 and Nancy Meyers #73230), d. 10 February 1873 in Demorestville, Prince Edward County, ON, Canada, 10 buried in Demorestville Cemetery. 11 Margaret: 1873: Age at death 85 years, 7 months, 6 days. Ann's 1875 death certificate gives her birthplace as "Ballston Spa"... This is an interesting coincidence inasmuch as the HYATT family that moved to Sherbrooke in the 1780's, a branch of which founded the HYATTs in Hallowell Township also originated there (names after Jonathan BALL, another Loyalist). The Registrar for Sophiasburgh was Ira BARTON at the time, so it's likely that the death information is accurate... She married James G. Wright #73240, 02 November 1835 in Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County, ON, Canada, 13,17 b. c 1811 in Lowville, New York State, 18 d. 03 May 1895 in Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County, ON, Canada, 19 occupation Harness Maker, religion 1871 Wesleyan Methodist. James: 1835: Residence in Demorestville when married. 1839: James G. WRIGHT was a witness at Henry Burdett BARTON's marriage. 1851: Not found in Demorestville census? 2
3 1891: The Sophiasburgh census, shows a number of children, both enumerated with patriarch James and nearby. While "Pioneer Life in Quinte" shows no children, I suspect this is because the children may have been from an earlier partner... still to be proven... Grace Wright, aged 6 months lived with the family. Not: There is a Thomas WRIGHT family enumerated in the 1871 census. They are from Scotland, and not believed to be related to this family. 19. i. Emery Douglas Wright #73276 b. 14 June ii. Helen Wright #73274 b. c iii. Emma Wright #73275 b. c iv. Charles H. Wright #73272 b. c Samuel E.
