Original artwork by 100 women writer/illustrators working across genres from the 1800s to the present day. Featuring artists from Marie Duval and Tove Jansson to Posy Simmonds, Audrey Niffenegger and Nina Bunjevac. Cocurated by Olivia Ahmad and Paul Gravett. Shojo Manga: The World of Japanese Girls Comics 18 March 12 June 2016 The first major exhibition of Japanese Shōjo manga on tour in the UK. Featuring Genga (Dash) prints of the pioneering work of 1970s manga artists Akiko Hatsu and Keiko Takemiya, and contemporary artist Yukiko Kai. In association with the Kyoto International Manga Museum and The Lakes International Comic Art Festival. This exhibition explores this period of unprecedented innovation with a selection of original artwork and rare books from the collection of Sasha Lurye. 4 The Model Estate of Edward Ardizzone Ardizzone: A retrospective Main Galleries 23 September January 2017 The first major exhibition in 40 years of the work of Edward Ardizzone, one of the 20th century s most significant and cherished illustrators. Over 100 pieces from public and private collections that reflect the incredible diversity of his career, including original illustrations, paintings, sketchbooks, prints, posters and ceramics. Co-curated by Olivia Ahmad and Alan Powers. Laura Carlin: Ceramics 13 October January 2017 Acclaimed book illustrator Laura Carlin explores her journey from paper to ceramics from her first drawing to realising an idea in clay. 5 The Quentin Blake Gallery Seven Kinds of Magic 29 April 24 August 2016 The Quentin Blake Gallery at the House of Illustration opens in April It will offer a continuous series of exhibitions of different aspects of Quentin Blake s work, drawing on the unparalleled diversity of his personal archive of thousands of original illustrations, roughs and preparatory drawings. The inaugural exhibition, Seven Kinds of Magic, explores Blake s varied depictions of magic both in his own books and from those of other writers such as Russell Hoban, John Yeoman and Roald Dahl. Image by Quentin Blake, from Magical Tales by John Yeoman The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots 2 September February 2017 An exhibition of Quentin Blake s original illustrations for The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots, the recently re-discovered unpublished Beatrix Potter manuscript, to be published on 1 September by Penguin Random House.
