CHAPTER 8 REVIEW ALGEBRA 2 Name Per Fill in the blanks n is said to be in notation. 2. n= 1 k = 1 is a Greek letter called. ( k 4) is read as. Write the next term in the given sequence. Then write a rule for the nth term ,,,,,... next term 5. 4, 9, 16, 25, 36,... next term Write each series in SUMMATION NOTATION. You must first decide what type of series each is and then find the rule for the nth term ( 2) ( 6) + ( 18) TYPE OF SERIES: TYPE OF SERIES : TYPE OF SERIES: arithmetic arithmetic arithmetic geometric geometric geometric neither of the above neither of the above neither of the above Find the sum of the series by first finding each and every term. Do not use any formulas ( 5n +10) = 10. (2n 3 11) = n=0 4 1 ( 3 6 ) n =
State whether the sequence is arithmetic or geometric. Write the next term of the sequence. Then write a rule for the nth term of the sequence. Then find a 9 by using the formula for the nth rule , 13, 4, 5, next term 13. 4, 20, 100, 500,... next term TYPE OF SEQUENCE: arithmetic sequence geometric sequence TYPE OF SEQUENCE: arithmetic sequence geometric sequence a 9 = a 9 = Find the sum of the series created from the above two exercises using the following number of terms. If necessary, use whatever information that you have found from the previous problems. You must use an APPLICABLE FORMULA. SHOW ALL WORK. 14. Sum of the first 25 terms of the series 15. Sum of the first 12 terms of the series from 22 + ( 13) + ( 4) Write a rule for the nth term of the ARITHMETIC sequence given the following information. Use the method learned in class d =, a25 = a4 = 13, a6 = 27 4
Write a rule for the nth term of the GEOMETRIC sequence given the following information. Use the method learned in class r = 4, a 4 = a3 = 2, a6 = 27 Find the sum of the series, if there is one, by using the appropriate formula. Show all steps. Round to the tenths if necessary. 9 ( ) = 21. ( 6n +12) = = = = 25. (2n + 5) =
Graph each sequence. Remember to label and scale each axis ,2,4,8, ,4,1, 2, 5 Circle whether each is an arithmetric or geometric sequence or series. Then write the rule for each and solve. State what a 1 and r or d are. State your answer in a full sentence. SHOW ALL WORK. 28. Your mother wants to make a deal with you. She will give you $.25 to make your bed daily. She will then double the amount daily for each day for the next 2 weeks. What is the total amount of money that you will earn over the next two weeks? 29. On the first day of school you were given a $250 Starbucks gift card. On the second day of school you purchased a tall Frappuccino which costs $2.25. You enjoyed the drink so much that you decided to buy a tall Frappuccino daily until your money ran out. How much money will you have left on your gift card on the 35 th day of school?
30. Tarzan swings on a vine over the crocodile infested river. On the first swing from left to right he travels 100 feet. Each following swing is 90% of his previous one. He taunts the crocodiles by hanging on until the last moment when he can safely land on the opposite shore. However, he is distracted and hangs on too long. Find Tarzan s total distance traveled when he finally stops and is now crocodile fare a.k.a. croc pot? 31. Your teacher assigns 240 minutes worth of homework during the first week of school. The next week she assigns 180 minutes worth of homework; the third week she assigns 135 minutes worth of homework. If she continues to assign homework following this pattern, how many minutes worth of homework will she assign during the tenth week of school? 32. Suppose that you make a bank deposit of $8 the first week, $12 the second week, $16 the third week, and so on. What is the total amount that you have deposited in the bank at the end of one year? (There are 52 weeks in a year.)
