1 Stay Out Zones and Boom Priorities for Shorebirds in Franklin County C All the Coastal Beaches that are Publically Owned (State and Federal) have use by nesting birds. These areas are posted. BMPs for minimizing impacts while people are accessing the beaches for clean up should be followed. The Following depicts our highest priorities for protection of Coastal Bird protection Zones in NW Florida via boom placement and then Stay Out Zone, some areas need both: Highest Priorities for BOOM Placement: 1) Flagg Island, Franklin County, FL: [Seaward of Gulf Placement needed] and to and Decimal Degrees a. Owner: State of Florida, Florida Department of Environmental Protection d. Wildlife Significance: low lying (large) ephemeral shoal prone to Gulf water washover, some tern nesting, but major shorebird/waterbird roosting site. 2) Lanark Reef, Franklin County, FL: [Seaward of Gulf Placement needed] and to and Decimal Degrees a. Owner: State of Florida and Hurley Booth, Private Landowner b. Manager: FWC c. Contact Info: John Himes, FWC, d. Wildlife Significance: PRONE TO WASHOVERS EVENTS: Pelican and Heron Rookery, black skimmer and oystercatcher nesting, high foraging use year around by large numbers of shorebirds. Surrounded by dense sea grass beds. 3) Phipps Preserve, Franklin County, FL: [Seaward of Gulf Placement needed] and to and Decimal Degrees a. Owner: The Nature Conservancy b.
