1 8 th PHILIPPINE BIRD FESTIVAL MEETING MINUTES # 1 May 4, 2012 Members in Attendance: Tinggay Cinco, Jon Javier, Jops Josef, Mike Lu, Gina Mapua, Ixi Mapua, Mikeli O Leary, Jun Osano, Yana Osano, Cheeann Rono, Henry So, Jessie Severino, Maia Tanedo, Arnel Telesforo, Tintin Telesforo, Jon Villasper Meeting Minutes: 1. The 8 th Philippine Bird Festival Manila Bay will be held on December 7-8, 2012 at the Agrifina Circle, Rizal Park, Manila. 2. This year s festival will focus on the biodiversity of Manila Bay and highlight the bird species found in the bay. 3. Our main partners for the festival are the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Tourism (DOT). 4. We will set up Committee and invite members to head each committee. 5. The Sponsorship Committee Henry So, Alex Tiongco - keep track of sponsorships and encourage members to contribute and seek sponsorships - provide solicitation letters for festival sponsorship and souvenir program ad sponsorship DENR has committed to sponsor one dinner with cultural show. DOT has committed to sponsor one dinner with cultural show and provide airport assistance to arriving delegates. The National Parks Development Committee will provide Agrifina Circle as the venue free-of-charge. The DPWH has committed to construct a stage measuring 16 x 28 x 4 Early follow-up on stage design needed to determine if stage will have a roof, etc.

2 Others to be contacted Team Energy, Primer Group, Villar Foundation, Smart Communications (tents), Genesis Transport (bus). 6. Souvenir Program Committee Trinket Canlas, Adri Constrantino, Jops Josef, Maia Tanedo The Committee will solicit and layout articles, photos and ads, send and follow-up printing and on-time delivery. 7. Technical/Visual Arts Committee Jon Villasper and Arnel Telesforo This committee will be in charge of designing the logo, identify the other bird species to be highlighted and corresponding IEC materials. - Arnel Telesforo came up with the new festival logo and a proposed wrap-around design for the transport sponsor. It was suggested that he comes up with a 30- second to one minute teaser video - Jon Villasper has identified 15 bird species that will be highlighted during the bird fest. He will come up with one or more pre-festival T-shirts to be sold during the General Assembly in July to create awareness and for fund-raising purpose. - The WBCP booth will use the existing Club tarps that have not been used in Manila such as the We are Ordinary People tarps - The Club will write the National Museum of the Philippines to come up with a joint exhibit to show case the ecosystems found in Manila Bay and highlight the threats to the bay 8. Delegates Committee - invite, liaise and look after needs of participants Foreign delegates Tere Cervero - letters of invitation to be sent out to 20 Asian bird clubs in June Local delegates Chee Anne Rono - letters to be invitation to be sent out to 20 conservation organizations/lgus in August/September

3 Members Mai Yangco - will liaise with Club members regarding volunteer work and attendance of various activities during the festival Schools Jon Javier - will invite, liaise and confirm participation of private and public schools - letters of invitation with proposed program to be sent out in June - CORE (Primer Group) will help coordinate with Manila-based public schools - Villar Foundation will help with inviting Las Pinas schools - Balanga City plan to send students - DENR-NCR to invite private schools that were involved in previous clean-ups - Club members working in the academe will be asked to invite their schools All communications to the public must stress that there will be no caged birds at the festival. 9. Logistics Committee Mel Tan, Jessie Severino Hotel Mel provided the room quotation for the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel & Casino located right across the venue Transport ask assistance from Balanga LGU to contact Genesis Transport Venue security, stage set-up, sound system, first-aid, tents/booths, tables and chairs 10. Programs Anna Gonzales, Drew Galano - Schedule as follows: Friday morning grade school students, and afternoon for high school, Saturday general public - Program proper to be discussed later 11. Education Committee Leni Sutcliffe - Parts of birds and their functions - Karen Ochavo

4 Puppets of parts of birds - bills, legs, feet, etc. - to show how these are adapted to their uses and to the birds' habitats. - Activity booklet by Tinggay Cinco - Migrating birds, the East Asian Australasian Flyway and the Coastal Lagoon Board showing map of the East-Asian Australasian flyway linking (with strings or ribbons) places of origin to another board with images of some of the birds that use the flyway to reach the Philippines. The birds should include as many as possible of the birds that have been found in the Coastal Lagoon. This board could be linked to a third board listing all the birds that have been seen in the Coastal Lagoon in recent years. A fourth board will show how birds prepare themselves for their long flight and how they navigate. The BBC documentary Earth Flight features the Asian flyway. Educ Committee to write BBC to ask permission to show the video to the general public. 12. Activities Ixi Mapua & Mikeli Mapua - coordinate, assign volunteers and gather supplies for the following activities: Origami, Coloring, Face-painting with Sylvia Ramos, Drawing with Peter Sutcliffe 11. Lectures and Conservation Forum Tintin Telesforo, Joni Acay, Nikdye Realubit This committee will invite, liaise, gather information and schedule sessions for the speakers. - discussed was ideas to ensure lectures were well-attended by correct target audiences 1. write lecture descriptions 2. information and schedule of the lectures to be given to schools 3. post lecture schedule on bill boards 4. provide signs leading to the lecture halls 5. announce lectures over the PA system 6. post-lecture school support i.e. quizzes, questionnaires, discussion questions

Documentation Committee Jun Osano - document activities during the festival - assign photographers to specific areas to make sure all activities are documented - coordinate with videographer 13. Post-trip Committee - it was suggested to assign Mark Villa and Rob Hutchinson to develop post festival trips 14. Registration/information desk no assigned person(s) yet 15. Others An open bird cage with sign indicating there will be no caged birds Coordinate with Balanga LGU regarding participation of delegates in the Ibong Dayo festival in Balanga City on December 9 Eco-tourism summit to teach LGUs what true eco-tourism is to be held before the PBF at the same venue.
