2 REAL. AMERICAN. FURNITURE. Established 1997 David Stine is an award-winning furniture maker whose work marries traditional American craftsmanship with sustainable practices. His designs maximize the natural, singular beauty of the wood. Every piece of furniture he creates is one-of-a-kind. David is the fourth generation to steward his family s land in rural Illinois, where he sustainably harvests his own lumber, mills his own boards, and crafts every piece of furniture by hand. His design inspiration comes from the forest itself, by how and where the trees grew. As he mills the boards and the inner beauty of the wood is revealed, he often sees what he will build. Each piece of furniture is a testament to the beauty and majesty of the tree from which it came. David epitomizes the sustainable spirit of traditional, authentic American craftsmanship.

3 ABOUT David Stine was born and raised on a dairy farm in Dow, Illinois, where he learned the art of woodworking from his grandfather and father. David is a graduate of Penn State University and holds a law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He founded David Stine Furniture in 1997 while in law school. He practiced law in D.C. for one year before devoting himself full time to furniture craftsmanship. In 2002, he moved back to Dow, 40 miles north of St. Louis, where he renovated an 1871 farmhouse and built a woodshop, kiln, studio, sawmill, and drying sheds for his work. He is the fourth generation to steward his family s 500 wooded acres, where he sustainably harvests the wood he uses in his work. Clients often travel to Dow to consult with David, walk the woods, choose their boards, enjoy a hearty meal, and a day at the farm. His award-winning work has been featured at the Architectural Digest Design Show, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Dwell On Design, the St. Louis Art Fair, the American Craft Council, Art Fair Jackson Hole, the Western Design Conference, and more. David has appeared in commercial work for Stihl, Café Valet, and Main Street Financial, and has starred in several TV pilots for the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and others. 5 THE PROCESS Every piece of furniture David Stine creates is handcrafted from American hardwoods sustainably harvested from his family s forests. The design of each piece is informed by the tree itself the wood in its most natural form is the first inspiration. It starts in the forest, where the wood is sustainably harvested. The logs are brought to the farm, where they are milled by hand. The wood slabs are sorted, stacked, and kiln- and air-dried for up to three years. When an order is placed, Dave Stine works directly with each client to choose the right slab and the right design for their project. Every piece is handcrafted using traditional methods of joinery and construction. Only environmentally safe, non-toxic finishes are used, including Dave Stine s proprietary hand-rubbed oil finish. Each piece is hand finished and delivered to its new home.
