2 2019 marks 100 years of business for Desser and we are as passionate today about quality, service and style as our ancestors were almost 100 years ago. Celebrating 100 years in the making For our Centenary, we ve created a collection that captures the natural beauty of rattan combined with modern fabrics and shapes that allow our suites to fit into any area of the home. To our designers, creators, machinists, delivery drivers, warehouse team and office staff thank you. Thank you for your contribution to the success of the business for the last 100 years. We re grateful to have you as part of the Desser family and know that your contribution is what ensures our success year on year. A momentous year for the company and one that we are all proud to be part of. The business has survived on great family heritage and these values still remain, ensuring a strong foundation and great environment to work in. This year we have added plenty of style and design to our collection which is fitting to our centennial year Mark Stewart - Director 100 Years Timeline After serving in WW1, Isaac saw the basket trend taking off in Belgium so decided to bring the basket trend to the UK and started selling to market stalls. Isaac`s brother, Simon soon joined afterwards and they worked together sourcing and selling basketware at markets close to their home in Manchester. 30 s With the business`s success, the Desser team continued to grow larger and larger. Travelling salesman Morris Desser, son of Isaac joined and travelled all over the UK & Europe to source the best wicker products to sell in the UK. 40 s Shopping Baskets and Cookery Baskets became one of our best sellers during the 40 s. 50 s Ronnie Stewart, the Son-In-law of Simon Desser joined the Desser team and incorporated the Stewart family into the Desser business. 60 s Gordon Desser joined the company at 18 and during this time became a travelling salesman. Each year, he would attend the Canton fair in China, sourcing even more quality products to bring to the UK. 70 s This decade saw Desser move to its new home in Manchester a purpose-built warehouse, office and manufacturing space. It also saw the 3rd generation of the family to join the business, with Michael Stewart in 1970 and Barry Stewart in both of whom started working in the warehouse then in sales before travelling to source from the Far East which Barry still does to this day. 80 s Julian Desser joined the team and introduced the Desco Digest - keeping all staff up to date with the latest news at the company. Gordon s son Simon also joined the company, starting the 4th generation of the family involved in the business. 90 s In the 90 s we began to look like the Desser you know and love today importing indoor rattan and cane furniture from Indonesia. Mark joined in 1997, developing the sales team and ideas to further promote Desser and its quality products. 00 s We opened our Manchester showroom to the public, giving local customers the chance to check out the quality craftsmanship of our Indoor and Outdoor rattan furniture for themselves. Our Manchester showroom is still open today, showing off our wide range of rattan furniture. David joined in 2017, being the latest member of the 4th generation of the family to be part of the Desser team. Future for Desser As you can see from our brief history overview, we ve always stayed ahead of the trend importing the latest in rattan homewares and furniture. Looking forward, we re continuing to work with our skilled suppliers to create on trend pieces fit for any room in the home. Page 2 Page 3

3 Creating your Custom Suite Step 1 Choose your frame from our extensive range. We've got Natural, Naturalwash and Light Oak frames to add a touch of nature to your home as well as washed finishes to add a modern feel to traditional rattan styles. Select the sofa size you require, which chair (conventional, or one of our matching swivel or swivel rocking chairs). Step 2 We have 3 grades of fabric this year, B grades being our entry level fabrics, which are machine washable and made from 100% polyester. C grades fabrics which are a slightly better quality of material and fabric composition. D grade fabrics are our superior grade which are all Aqua Clean fabrics - this material gives you a little bit of assurance and allows you to clean stains using water. 4 Desser Care While cane is an especially resilient material, it is incredibly important to look after your furniture correctly. Frames can be cleaned by wiping down with a soft, damp cloth. You can also use a toothbrush or a dry paint brush between the grooves to remove any dust or grime - a vacuum with a small brush will work too. Avoid using chemical products like benzene, thinners and abrasive cremes. An occasional spray of furniture polish will keep your cane furniture looking its best. Qualofil Technology Our Qualofil cushions on our Seville and Swivel Rocker s use fibre fusion technology, meaning your cushions spring back to their original shape year after year. While the fibre fusion ensures plumpness, they also give our cushions a softer look and feel compared to other fillings, making for a more comfortable sit. Plus, Qualofil cushions are made with low C02 emissions too! Pirelli Webbing To ensure our furniture offers the ultimate comfort, we use only the best materials when building our suites. Pirelli webbing ensures that your suite frames remain strong and firm and support the rest of the upholstery. With such a strong foundation, you know you will be sitting comfortably for years to come! Fabric We ve hand-picked 30+ fabrics to complement each of our frames that allow you to create your own custom suite to match your style. From Checks and chenille s to Aquaclean fabrics, we re sure we ve got a fabric you ll love. Request your fabric samples by asking a Desser representative or sales@desser.co.uk Quality Built In We only use the highest quality materials when creating our handmade suites and conduct regular, rigorous quality checks at each stage of assembly. Our frames are assembled, cushions hand made, and your suite is packed for delivery all at our Manchester warehouse and offices, meaning we re always monitoring what s being sent out to our customers. Dacron Wrap Dacron Wrap is another high quality material we use when hand making your suite. It is used on our upholstery fillings and foams to prevent loose, worn areas forming on your cushions and reduces the wear on your fabrics by reducing friction. Its recommended that you regularly turn your cushions and draw your blinds, so that any fading caused by direct sunlight is evenly spread. Your furniture should also be kept in a dry environment. Following these simple steps will allow you to enjoy your furniture for a lifetime. Our Environment & Us We take great care in designing and creating our furniture with sustainability and our environmental impact at the forefront of production. Our quality rattan is sourced in Indonesia and we work closely with local factories and growers to protect Indonesia s stunning natural landscape. Rattan is ecologically important, growing up to six meters a year in areas that cannot support other land products such as those remaining under flood waters for long periods of time. Rattan is a climbing palm and can only grow amongst existing trees such as fruit orchards and rubber estates, so farming of rattan encourages the preservation of forests in its nature as a companion crop. It s one of the most sustainable materials in furniture manufacturing, compared to hard wood alternatives which take up to 30 years to grow. Rattan farming provides sustainable income to some of the poorest people living on the fringes of the forests, helping generate employment and build communities in these farming areas.
