As of 2014, Deere and Company employed over 67,000 personnel worldwide. The majority of ir equipments are of agricultural machinery such as tractors, harvesters, cotton harvesters, balers, planters, seederss etc. They also provide construction equipment such as Loaders, Excavators, Tracked loaders and more. The company has also been working to develop electric farm tractors as of With recent advancements in digital technologies, company has even started exploring domains of machine learning as applied on agricultural practices by acquiring a California based company Blue River technology. They aim to enable growers to reduce overall use of herbicides using computer 3

4 vision and machine learning technologies and thus optimizing use of inputs in farming. Technology: U.D.S protocol Domain: Communication and diagnostics Unified Diagnostic Services is a diagnostic communicationn protocol tool whichh can be integrated in ECU of Automotive system electronics. The term unified essentially relate to standardization of communication protocols in ECUs made by Tier1 suppliers of OEM equipments. The diagnostics tools contained in se control units installed in a vehicle contact with various systemss through enabled UDS services. This is in contrast to CAN protocols which only provide first and second layers of OSI model. Through UDS communication protocols Servicee ID and various parameters whichh are associated with communication services are contained in 8 data bytes of a message frame which is issued through diagnostic tool. The UDS services utilize fifth and seventh layers of OSI model instead of first and second layer of model. Most of modern vehicles come with diagnostic interfaces in order to connect client systems or testers to bus system of UDS protocols. Through UDS protocols a wide range of functions such as electronic fuel injection, engine control unit, transmission, anti lock braking systems, door locks and various or tasks and features of vehiclee systems. 4

5 Challenges Faced By client: John Deere is currently one of leading manufacturers of automotive equipments and machinerie es. Their fleet of vehicles provided for agricultural and construction purposes are extensively used throughout industry and y are considered to be one of best in ir domain. With increasing pace of technological change it was becoming extremely important that client kept up with changes and integrate new technologies which could make performance of ir vehicles better than what y had at that stage. Currently client was using an older technology for ir Electronic Computation Units to develop communication service between various tasks and control units of vehicle. This technology known as J1939 was effective till now but now y had better communication systems available in industry which if implemented could possibly improve upon ir vehicle's performance manifold. One of such systems rapidly becoming popular in automotive market was AUTOSAR system implemented over Unified Diagnostic Services protocol. Being a new technology y also needed expertise and a workforce trained in tool to start implementing protocol and communication system in ir ECUs of vehicles. The sophisticated nature of technology also posed certain issues of implementation and thus extensive hands on practical knowledge was required for effective implementation. Their high production rates of vehicles also was a hurdle because platform of deployment of UDS technology was to be developed in a manner which can match pace with production rate and provide similar rate of development of system and end deployment.
