2 LAMIERA: MANY INNOVATIONS FOR THE EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE METAL FORMING SECTOR Second consumer market in Europe, Italy can boast with LAMIERA of one of the most qualified exhibitions dedicated to the metal forming machine tool industry, and to the technologies developed for the processing of sheet metal. The seventeenth edition of LAMIERA will take place from Wednesday 14 th to Saturday 17 th May at the Fiera Bologna exhibition centre, the traditional stage for the two-yearly event promoted by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the association of Italian manufacturers of machine tools, robots, and automation systems. Organised by CEU-CENTRO ESPOSIZIONI UCIMU, the exhibition has always been a point of reference for the end users of the main outlet sectors: from general mechanics to metallurgy, from machine tools to automotive, from household appliances to building, from the food and packaging sectors to energy and aerospace. An not to be missed chance to establish new and more profitable technical and commercial relationships, the seventeenth edition of LAMIERA will be host to about 370 companies, 40% of them coming from abroad who will present their offer range on an exhibition space of over 35,000 square metres. Together with the many Italian exhibitors, there will be manufacturers from: Germany, Great Britain, Spain, USA, Switzerland, Holland, Austria, France, Turkey, Belgium, Ireland, as well as Australia, China, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Greece, Monaco, Romania, and Taiwan. Attracted to LAMIERA by the wide range of products on display, the visitors interviewed after the last exhibition (2012) gave a very positive opinion of the Bologna event: 47% of them considered both the representation and the quality of the offer on display very good, 44% good, and only 7% fair. The spotlights are on: sheet metal forming machines, welding machines, cutting and oxy cutting machines, bar, tube, and profile processing machines, presses, shearing and punching machines, treatment and finishing, components and accessories. In addition to the traditional index of products, the new introduction of the seventeenth edition of LAMIERA is BLECH ITALY, the area dedicated to the steel, metal alloys, and non-ferrous materials manufacturing chain. In this way, the exhibition extends the offer beyond the limits of machine tools up to that of the materials that are used and processed by them, with the objective of providing an even more complete and exhaustive exhibition itinerary for the operators that choose LAMIERA as a tool to define their investment plans in machinery and in production technologies. It is not a case that 82% of the visitors recorded in 2012 was directly involved in the purchasing decisions of their companies, covering positions mainly in the following areas: production (26%), management (18%), commercial (15%), purchasing (12%), research and development (10%), design engineering (8%). Among the more than 25,000 visitors expected to attend the seventeenth edition of LAMIERA, will also be the foreign operators invited to the event by the organisers, starting from the large representation of the Russian Federation, fourth export market for Italian machine tools, immediately after China, the United States, and Germany. 1

3 The country of honour of the 2014 edition of LAMIERA, Russia will be represented by a qualified delegation of end users who, invited within the scope of the project Machines Italia in Russia, promoted by the Ministry for Economic Development and FEDERMACCHINE, during the exhibition will be able to directly assess the Italian offer of the sector, gaining in-depth knowledge through B2B meetings with Italian exhibitors. One of the most promising markets, also in view of the industrialisation plans of the Kremlin, it is to the Russian Federation that the LAMIERA opening meeting focussing on "New partnership opportunities among Italian and Russian companies" will be dedicated. Among the official representations present at LAMIERA, there are also the qualified delegations of end users and journalists from Brazil, India, the United States and Turkey, who are among the main markets purchasing the Made in Italy of the sector, and who, invited by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE in collaboration with Ice Agenzia, will take part in targeted meetings with exhibiting companies. These will be joined by representations from Canada, Croatia, and Serbia, directly invited by the association. The overview of the worldwide offer of the sector will be completed by an important conference programme that will last for the whole duration of the fair, and by LAMBDA SOSTENIBILITÀ, the new version of Lambda. FACILITIES- LAMIERA ONLINE The new site of the exhibition, lamiera.net, provides constantly updated information and services to make the participation of the operators to the Bologna event much easier. The on-line registration ( gives the possibility of downloading the free entry pass to LAMIERA, open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with access from the Michelino and the North entrance gates. Thanks to interactive maps, the on-line catalogue, available in 8 languages, gives the possibility of carrying out, directly from your own PC, searches based on product, company, country of origin, and location within the exhibition premises. To make the consultation of exhibitor information easier during the visits to the stands, for the first time LAMIERA makes available the catalogue App. Available free of charge, both for ios and Android operating systems, the APP of the LAMIERA catalogue is the most practical and the fastest way to move through the halls, acquire information, and take notes, with the possibility of adding photos and notes in your notebook system in real time. In the Press Area, journalists will find information kits, a useful support to their exhibition reportages. The press folder, communications, and notes are updated on a daily basis, and so is the review of articles dedicated to the exhibition. The social networks (facebook and twitter) of LAMIERA offer a constant update on the innovations of the event, with the possibility of direct participation of the users of the communities. 4 THE CONFERENCES OF LAMIERA Alongside the show itself, LAMIERA also offers, following its tradition, a qualified conference programme aimed at providing an overall view of the most interesting and current topics, with particular attention to technological and organisational innovations. The exhibition opens on Wednesday 14 th May, with the inaugural meeting "Russia guest country of LAMIERA 2014: New partnership opportunities among Italian and Russian companies. The meeting hosts the round table Innovation and internationalisation of development engines, focus on Russia. 5 LAMBDA SOSTENIBILITÀ The new introduction of the seventeenth edition of LAMIERA is LAMBDA SOSTENIBILITÀ, the new version of the historic space, this time dedicated to showcasing the commitment of the sector towards eco-compatible production. The protagonists of LAMBDA SOSTENIBILITÀ, which can be found in Hall 36, are research centres, universities, enterprises and start-ups that will compare opportunities and ways of producing machineries, production systems, and connected technologies capable of fulfilling social, environmental, and economic sustainability requirements. Sustainability, expressed through the development of systems capable of rationally exploiting resources and minimising the use of energy, raw materials and means, is in fact nowadays a determining factor in the purchasing processes of the operators of the manufacturing sectors, more and more attentive in investing in solutions that ensure the best machine performance to consumption ratio. To introduce the sustainable innovation process applied to the industry of the sector, the 500 square metres of exhibition space allocated to LAMBDA will be organised in three areas:: Sustainable innovation. Area dedicated to the new technologies of the sector. It gives space to research centres, universities, European projects and start-ups presenting solutions, management methods, and systems ready for industrial use. Protagonists of the area are: Ata associazione tecnica dell automobile (technical automobile association), Cna Innovanet, CRF Centro Ricerche Fiat (Fiat research centre), Fraunhofer IWU, IAM-Polo Automotive, Musp, Quadratum, Safen Fluid & Mechanical Engineering, Siri Italian association of robotics and automation, Stanimuc, University of Bologna. Blue Philosophy in Lamiera. Area dedicated to the introduction of (already developed) technologies and processes centred on eco-compatibility from companies awarded the UCIMU Blue Philosophy seal, and taking part in Lamiera. The UCIMU seal is awarded to UCIMU associate member companies capable of meeting certain quality criteria, including the rational exploitation of resources and the reduction to the minimum in the use of energy, raw materials and means. Protagonists of the area are: Adige, Blm, Colgar International, Ficep, Gasparini, Ltf, Marposs, Millutensil, Omera, Prima Industrie, Salvagnini, Tecnocut Cms, Tiesse Robot. Comparing Ideas. With over 40 planned speeches, the area will develop a debate on the most interesting and current topics of the sector, comparing the world of enterprises with the research and training sectors. 4

6 THE ITALIAN INDUSTRY OF METAL FORMING MACHINE TOOL LAMIERA is a point of reference for a particularly important sector, which represents almost half of the overall Italian production of machine tools. In 2013 Italy produced forming machine tools for a value of 1,962 million Euros, a 7.9% decrease when compared with Italy consolidates its position as leader of the sector, ranking third among international manufacturers, after China and Germany, but ahead of Japan, Korea, and the United States. According to the 2013 final balance, Italian exports of metal forming machines decreased by 7.4% when compared with the previous year. Particularly high is the production exported, equal to 66.5% of the total production of the sector. Imports reached 111 million euros. Therefore, the sector generated a positive trade balance for a value of 1,194 million Euros, equal to almost half of the total machine tool trade balance. Among the most exported machines, first place goes to the curving and bending family, followed by presses. The main outlet markets of the sector are the United States, with a +11% increase when compared with the previous year, followed by China (+12.5%). Down sales to Germany (-19.8%), Russia (-24.5%), Brazil (-24.4%), India (-20%), France (-20.3%) and Poland (-29%). Up exports to Turkey (+13.6%) and Mexico (+4.8%). The total percentage of the metal forming sector on the total (machine tools and production systems) exported was 40.9%. Data in million Euros.
