Summary One of the means of retaining removable prostheses is the use of magnetic attachments that have been developed in over the last 10 years. The usefulness of this retentive method has been recognized worldwide. The goal of this proposed program with international collaboration is to seek to obtain some basic scientific data for international standardization. The material properties to be investigated for the magnetic retainers include: corrosion characteristics, extent of magnetic leakage, magnetic circuit, and magnetic retentive force. In addition, the program will explore methods of fixing the magnetic attachments to oral tissues and denture. Gathering clinical data in the use of these magnetic attachments will also enhance the establishment of international standards for these micro dental devices. In March, 2005, the new ISO code for earthquake-resistant design of geotechnical structures, which had been developed by the ese members of the present research proposal, was internationally accepted. In the new code, prediction of seismic behavior of structures plays major roles, making ese predictive technologies essentially important in the future design principle. It is expected that the domestic geotechnical engineering will obtain international markets if the ISO code is accepted by other countries. To promote this idea, the present study will make example seismic designs of several geotechnical structures, evaluate their life-cycle costs, verify the accuracy of prediction, and organize seminars in several target nations so that

The goal of this project is developing an universal description framework of language resources through describing lexical entries of an experimental dictionary and upper ontology which are infrastructure of language technology. We are going to develop a next generation ac voltage standard based on a dual-output Josephson DA converter and a dual-input thermoelectric converter, which enables us to measure an averaged value of an ac voltage over wide frequency range (1Hz-10kHz) with fundamental accuracy. As a result, the present "artifact-based" ac voltage standard will be replaced by the "method-based" next generation ac voltage standard. Recently satellite failures attributed to solar array arcing due to interaction with space plasma occur very frequently. Although thorough ground tests are demanded, there has not yet been an international standard on the test methods. We carry out internationally-coordinated experiment with common test solar array coupons to propose an effective and correct ground test method based on physical understanding of the nature of charging and arcing phenomena in space. We also visit research facilities each other and have international workshops. At the end of three-year research period, we

We aim at providing the basic methods and tools required for developing circuit simulation models, which incorporate in a synergetic way the essence from various sophisticated models developed by different research institutions. This secures rapid and continuous development of accurate and reliable circuit simulation models of advanced and new electronic devices for the society. We apply in particular these basic methods and tools for developing circuit simulation models for multi-gate MOSFET with sub- 50nm design rules, and to establish these models as standard models for the electronic industry. This project aims at formation of international standard for graphically representing molecular interactions between genes and proteins. Currently, such interactions are represented by informal diagram with arrows and circles that is often inconsistent and ambiguous that causes confusion, misunderstanding, and potentially costing time and money of research efforts. We argue that there should be rigid, welldefined, unambiguous standard for visually representing such interactions as we see in schematics for electronics circuits. SBGN (Systems Biology Graphical Notation) will be proposed to be such a standard by forming an international community of standard formation, and initially pursues establishment of de facto standard, followed by de jury standard in the long run. Development of strategic and international standards of technologies for the validation of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) is important to realize the genome-based diagnosis and drug discovery. In this project, we will

4 develop a new technology to functionally validate SNP in drug transporter genes. In collaboration with professional scientists in USA and Europe, we will achieve the international standardization of critical methods needed for in-vitro functional validation of SNP in drug transporter genes. Coexistence of economic health and reduced environmental burden is essential to sustainable development of our societies. In order to reduce the environmental burden of industrial products in a free trade system, we must develop the international indices for disclosing environmental information of traded materials and standardize them internationally for buying and selling. In this project, leads the international development and standardization of the indices and the open framework for the indices to construct a foundation for sustainable development. Tip characterizer will be fabricated, at first, to establish standard procedure to estimate accurately AFM tip shape and apex. Then software will be developed which allows to deduce accurate shape of nano-materials from an AFM image obtained with an AFM tip whose shape and apex have been accurately determined with the tip characterizer. The standard procedure will be applied to the AFM analysis of hard (inorganic) and/or soft (organic/bio) nano-materiials to demonstrate practical importance of the procedure, and also the force applied to the nano-materials will be analyzed. Based on the results ISO procedure for accurate AFM measurement will be established. In this research, we develop security technologies for e-infrastructure whose fundamental idea is Virtual Organization (VO) which consists of multiple administrative organizations. 5 security policies for building international e-infrastructure. Human cognition, decision and action processes while driving are studied in terms of human behavioral signal processing. Having international achievements in collecting a large incar speech corpus, the research team makes an endeavor on collecting incar human behavioral signals, across cultures and social systems. Theoretical developments will be evaluated using those human related signals under the real world. In order to promote the novel research area, research fundamentals, I.e., corpora, evaluation frameworks and algorithm standards, are also developed.
