The current debate on these topics appears to be fragmented. The goal of the workshop is to bridge interdisciplinary divisions and to provide space for a fertile sharing of perspectives, which allows a better comprehension of how different ideas of agency and participation may inform the debate on justice, democracy, equality, responsibility, and sustainability. Structure The workshop is articulated along the following three main sections: A conceptual introduction to agency Implications I: individual and collective agency Implications II: participation and responsibility Implications III: participation and change The sections aim at enhancing the understanding of the structural features of agency and of its implications in the domain of morality, politics, and economics What empirical and moral properties qualify human agency? Can we ground the equal treatment of individuals in their sharing the same morally relevant agential capacities? Can we attribute agency to such collective entities as groups? When and how is individual agency used to pursue collective goals? How can we link it to collective responsibilities? What form of political participation maximally

2 realizes citizens agential capacities? How do cultural and social factors interact with participation and its effectiveness in contributing to social justice? Each section will comprise presentations from different disciplinary backgrounds and a guided. Speakers Due to the specificity of the subject and the relatively tight timeframe, invited speakers will be asked to present either a summary paper or a short synthesis of past and ongoing work on the subject within their field. The presentations will aim to introduce the audience to concepts, conceptions, analytical tools, open questions, and research results concerning the workshop topic.
