The man is there to feed the dog, and the dog is there to keep the man away from the machines. In the past, workers with average skills, doing an average job, could earn an average lifestyle. But, today, average is officially over. Being average just

3 won t earn you what it used to. It can t when so many more employers have so much more access to so much more above average cheap foreign labor, cheap robotics, cheap software, cheap automation and cheap genius. Therefore, everyone needs to find their extra their unique value contribution that makes them stand out in whatever is their field of employment. Average is over. average is over because of tecnology lubication - the domain of engineers - ether movig backwards or forwards

27 Associate Professor of Civil Engineering Dr Charles Clifton (formerly HERA Senior Structural Engineer), Acting SCNZ Manager Alistair Fussell and former SCNZ Manager Dr Clark Hyland from Hyland Fatigue and Earthquake Engineering visited Christchurch to

28 assess the earthquake damage. Preliminary findings suggest that the earthquake-induced actions within structures were below the levels required by the New Zealand Loadings Standard (NZS ). From site inspections of low-rise industrial buildings, there was some evidence of yielding and permanent stretch of wall and roof rod bracing. After the event, some of this rod bracing required re-tightening. However, the connections of some tension-only proprietary brace systems failed and required replacing; in these

29 cases, failure appeared to be as a result of the threads stripping in the vicinity of the connection.
