Sophia Haywood was born 1791 of William and Margaret (Sewell) Haywood in Penrith,, County Carlisle, England. She married ca. 1815 Robert McMurray of Wigton,, Scotland, ca. 20 mi NW of Penrith. 2. Robert and Sophia had Robert bp 1817 Penrith,, another 5 children baptized in Wigton: : Margaret ~1818, Sophia ~1820, Daniel ~1821, William ~1823, Margaret ~1824 and Joseph baptized 1828 Liverpool 3. Census Returns (1850-1870) for Robert McMurray 1850 Washington, Auglaize Co, Ohio, household reordered in Excel: 1.Original 1850 entries yellow highlighted 2.Additional entries for 1860 and 1870 census plus deaths 3.Note that Joseph age 20, married, had 3 children and moved to Pusheta by 1860, but moved back with father by 1870. Note: Joseph in Pusheta in 1860 had a son Daniel, just like his parents did in Wigton, Scotland. Both Daniels died in infancy. Margaret Barnard in Alabama (1860)* 51 37 * Margaret is the 2 nd Margaret born Wigton, Scot of Robert & Sophia McMurray (Auglaize Co in 1850) NOTE: From Saint Andrews parish registers, Penrith, Co. Cumberland, England, four additional children of Robert and Sophia (Haywood) McMurray [Margaret, Daniel, William and Sophia] did not survive to immigrate to America. Two children, Robert and a 2 nd Margaret, survived to immigrate. The 2 nd Margaret married in Alabama a professor and scientist, F.A.P. Barnard, who later became Chancellor of University in MS. With help from Southern friends, they escaped from MS to D.C. where he met with Pres. Lincoln. Later he became President of Columbia College in NYC.
