Chicory Farm Soap Product Information Sheet Background: Founded in 2012 by Sara Turnbull & husband Steve Lester in Bloom<ield, NY (Western NY). Sara & Steve have degrees related to Sustainable Agriculture and raised goats in college. Upon graduation they started a goat dairy (raw milk and goat cheese), but shortly transitioned to a goat milk soap business. Sara's sister, Paige, started working for Sara in April 2016. Sustainability: A critical aspect of Chicory Farm Soap is our dedication to sustainability and earth-friendly ingredients. Whenever possible we try to make decisions that will be gentlest on the earth while still keeping our product appealing. This includes: Pure essential oils only-no arti<icial fragrances at all No colorants natural or otherwise Extremely limited use of non-natural ingredients (we use lye in our soap because it s a natural soap (it is not present in the <inal product) and phenoxyethanol (a very mild preservative) in our liquid soap to make it shelf stable because we put raw goat milk in this soap) Palm Oil free recipes (Palm oil-even Sustainable Palm Oil-is farmed on plantations that displace orangutans and tigers and causes environmental degradation) Recyclable packing materials Essential oils from war zones and endangered species are never used (Sandalwood, Rosewood, Frankincense) Upcycling our bar soap waste (ends cut off of bars or irregular bars) into our Goat Milk Sugar Scrub Donating excess soap to women's shelters and similar organizations Shipping: Shipping is currently calculated at true cost (capped at 10%). Buyer pays shipping and Seller pays handling. Product will be shipped as soon as possible, usually within a week. However, if we're backordered on any product it can take as long as 6 weeks to <ill that part of the order. In the past we've sent all product that's ready ASAP and followed up with backordered product, free shipping, as soon as it's completed. This should only be a problem with the bar soap, as it takes 6 weeks to age while the other products are immediately ready for sale after they're produced. Samples: Samples (usually only purchased for Healing Salve) are half of Wholesale (i.e. $4.50/jar for Healing Salve) Additional Materials for Retailers: A sign is included with each purchase (photo of us with the goats), a sort of shelf talker (photo of goats with info on why goat milk products are great), and 25 retail postcards. These postcards have my contact information on the bottom (directs to our "shop local" page which has a listing of all
of the stores that carry our products) but storeowners are encouraged to cover this up with a label with their own contact information. Product Information: We have 4 different products. One of our customers in Arizona sells more Anise than anything else Certain scents will also be meaningful to certain demographics or regions (Patchouli-the new and
aging hippie; Cedar & Fir-campgrounds or outdoorsy customers; Oatmeal and Tea Tree-health-conscious customers looking for a product for everyday use rather than a gift). Aromatherapy: Each product has varying amounts of information on the aromatherapy bene<its it may provide. They are as follows: 1. Grapefruit & Lemongrass: Uplifting. A mood-brightening combination to help release frustration and anger. 2. Lavender: Soothing. Lavender is widely recognized for its calming qualities. 3. Sweet Orange: Lightening. Aids in feelings of sadness and for lifting heavy moods. 4. Lavender, Lemon & Clary Sage: Awakening. A synergistic blend designed to help with tiredness. 5. Patchouli: Grounding. Patchouli is a spiritual oil, helpful for balancing and grounding. 6. Lavender Rosemary: Releasing. Use to massage out the kinks, in a warm shower, and when you're battling a headache. 7. Orange Cinnamon: Comforting. Orange is uplifting, and warming cinnamon helps with feelings of isolation. This combination may help those dealing with grief and loss. 8. Mint: Focusing. Spearmint & Peppermint are sharply fragrant and can help restore focus. 9. Geranium & Grapefruit: Inspiring. This blend is great for evoking creativity and also aids in alleviating depression. 10. Oatmeal: Simplifying. Contains no essential oils. Perfect for sensitive noses. 11. Tea Tree: Purifying. Tea Tree is mostly used for cleansing, but is also sometimes used to help with shock. 12. Cedar & Fir: Healing. These woody oils are prized for their emotional and spiritual grounding qualities. 13. Grapefruit, Rosemary & Lavender: De-Stressing. A stress-speci<ic blend, use this for chronic depression. 14. Anise: Warming. Star Anise essential oil is often used to treat respiratory ills (bronchitis, colds, etc.). 15. Eucalyptus: Alleviating. Use to clear your senses and your respiratory system. Goat Milk Bar Soap: Price: $4.50/bar, $9.00/bar suggested retail Size: 4 oz. Shelf Life: Bars will retain their fragrance for about 18 months (some longer, like Anise). After that they will still be usable but no longer fragranced. Why it sells: Goat milk soap is gaining popularity. The natural acids found in goat milk are reported to help with Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea, and Age Spots (these last two according to my customers). Our recipe is a delicate, gentle one that has a mild lather and is very moisturizing. We age our soap for longer than many
other soap makers (minimum 6 weeks) and use harder oils so our soap does last longer than other brands. Goat Milk Liquid Soap: Price: $9.00/bottle, $18.00/bottle suggested retail Size: 8 <l oz Shelf Life: About 2 years Why it sells: Everyone uses liquid soap; not everyone uses bar soap. But most liquid soaps are detergents full of chemicals; ours is natural with just a mild preservative to help it remain shelf-stable with the raw goat milk added. People who have fallen in love with our scents will be excited to <ind it now comes in liquid form. The ingredients on this product are also very luxurious and organic, making it a more attractive option than other liquid soaps out there. This soap has a crazy lather Healing Salve: Price: $9.00/jar, $18.00/jar suggested retail Size: 4 <l oz Shelf Life: About 2 years. Why it sells: This product is an "intensive moisturizer". Think of it as a "Natural Vaseline". Many people aren't familiar with the term "salve" so we use "intensive moisturizer" to help clarify the name. I named it "healing salve" because it is skinhealing for dry, itchy skin and because it (along with all of the other products) is an aromatherapy product, by virtue of the pure essential oils it contains. One note about product testing: A little goes a long way Using just enough makes the product feel luxurious but using too much will feel "greasy". Goat Milk Sugar Scrub: Price: $9.00/jar, $18.00/jar suggested retail Size: 8 <l oz Shelf Life: About 2 years Why it sells: It's unique and upcycled Sugar scrubs are very popular now. I wanted to create another goat milk product to add to my line, and I wanted to <ind a way to upcycle my soap making scrap (when I make the bars there's quite a bit of "waste" that comes from the ends of the block being cut off or irregularly shaped bars). This product is made by shredding the scrap soap, melting it down with olive oil, and then mixing in sugar and essential oils. It's a simple product that feels luxurious and moisturizes, cleanses, and exfoliates all in one. There aren't many goat milk sugar scrubs available on the market, and fewer still that don't use preservatives.
