The model and serial numbers are located on the rear of the unit. Record these numbers in the spaces provided below. Refer to them when calling upon your dealer regarding this product. Model No. Serial No. Date of purchase: Thank you for selecting a Legacy Audio System. Please take a few moments to read this brief manual to insure maximum benefit from your electronic system. 3

Rear Panel Connections Be certain the Streamline and all associated equipment is turned off before making any connections. A. Balanced Inputs: Signal input is made through two XLR (balanced) type connectors and six gold plated RCA (unbalanced) type connectors. The XLR pin configuration is as follows: ground is pin 1, positive is pin 2, and negative is pin 3. B. Selector Inputs: Unbalanced stereo RCA jacks. C. Tape Monitor: Signal input and output connections for a recording device. 4

D. Processor: Signal input and output connections for a audio processor (surround sound processor, equalizer, etc.) E. Main Outputs F. Balanced Outputs: Signal output to your amplifier is made through two gold plated RCA (unbalanced) type connectors and two XLR (balanced) type connectors. The XLR pin configuration is as follows: ground is pin 1, positive is pin 2, and negative is pin 3. G. AC Line Input: Insert the power cord into the AC receptacle and then connect it to an appropriate power source. The fuse can be removed by pulling the fuse drawer out and clipping in a new one. Once all connections are made the power switch may be set to the on position. The Streamline may be left on as it draws a negligible amount of power. NOTE: The AC line voltage is preset at the factory but may be changed upon your request. 5

A. Volume/Balance: Audio level is controlled by this digitally switched pot. Clockwise rotation increases level, counterclockwise rotation decreases level. Left to right balance adjustment is accomplished by pressing the knob once. Tapping the knob will step it through Main, Left or Right channel adjustments. 6

B. db Attenuation: Left and right volume setting is indicated by this decibel (db) display. When the display reads 00, maximum gain is available; 99 is the maximum decibel attenuation. Setting the dial at 16 db provides unity gain. A LED is located on the display panel that lights when the VOLUME/BALANCE control is active in the balance mode. C. Processor Loop: For switching in an audio processor (surround sound processor, equalizer, etc.). This follows the Tape Monitor. D. Tape Monitor: For switching in a recording device (tape deck, mini disc, DAT deck, etc.). E. Mono: To sum the left and right channels. F. Input Selector: Primary input selection between one balanced (XLR) input and three unbalanced (RCA) inputs. NOTE: Only one selection may be used at a time. 7

Remote Control A. Input Selector: Primary input selector that cycles between one balanced (XLR) input and three unbalanced (RCA) inputs. B. TAPE MONITOR (Mon): For switching in a recording device (tape deck, mini disc, DAT deck, etc.). C. PROCESSOR (Proc): For switching in an audio processor (surround sound processor, equalizer, etc.). D. VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN: Sound level is controlled by this button. Volume up (+) increases level (less db attenuation). Volume down (-) decreases level (more db attenuation). E. BALANCE: (CH) Press this button to control the left or right levels. 8

If you wish to clean your Streamline, use diluted ammonia based window cleaner. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or chemical solvents. Take care not to damage the aluminum faceplate, since aluminum is a medium hardness metal and can be scratched by the careless use of tools during the installation. The Streamline may overheat and the finish may fade if exposed to direct sunlight or intense heat sources for prolonged periods. Save your box and packing material; they may be necessary for moving or shipping the unit for servicing by the factory. 9

The remote controlled Legacy Streamline Preamplifier is designed with a level of thoroughness reserved for only the finest preamplifier gain stages. Analytical, as well as subjective design techniques are all applied in an open-minded fashion with musical perfection as the goal. On the face plate, the straight forward simple controls and display provide comprehensive functionality to the user. All input selections have LEDs to show when they are in use. A single knob controls both volume and balance, with an LED display to show when the knob is in the balanced mode. Settings for the volume and balance are precisely indicated by the db attenuation display. The input stages use FETs which are transconductance devices, meaning that an input voltage controls an output current. This eliminates complex interactions, reducing the chance of cable characteristics altering the sound. Differential voltage gain provides exceptional rejection of external noise and contributes to the inherent DC stability of the circuit. This allows direct coupling without servo circuitry. The class A complimentary followers used to drive the preamp output are so linear that no feedback correction is required or used. The advantage of this stability is that transient response is preserved into a wide range of difficult and unpredictable loads. 10

The supply starts with a toroidal transformer and 14,000µF of capacitance. A reference voltage is developed by delivering a constant current to Zener diodes. The resulting voltage is heavily filtered and delivered through class A followers. The non-reactive low impedance and extremely wide bandwidth yields a perfect stable power source for the gain stages. Rear panel connectors include XLRs which have the advantage of greater noise rejection than RCAs. The AC power entry module has a line fuse, a spare fuse and a power switch. Since the power draw is low, the preamp may be left on, except when installing, changing cables, or changing system components. 11

Frequency Response: 0Hz to -3dB at 200 khz Distortion: Less than 0.1% from 10Hz to 40Hz at 6 volts peak into 600 Ohms or higher, shunted by 1000pF or less. Gain: 16dB Maximum Output: 12 Volts peak Noise: More than 100dBA referenced to 1 Volt output. Input Impedance: 20k Ohms unbalanced, 20k Ohms balanced Output Impedance: 50 Ohms non-reactive unbalanced, 100 Ohms non-reactive balanced Crosstalk: 70dB at 20 khz Power Supply: Toroidal transformer with 14,000µF of capacitance Dimensions: H 2.5 Faceplate, 3 Overall x W 17 Faceplate, 17 Chassis x D: 12 Overall Weight: 18 pounds Power Consumption: 30 Watts 12
