DHS Band Booster Meeting Minutes Date: September 17, 2015 Attendees: Mr. Perez- Asst. Band Director, President- Sheila Thurmon, Vice-President- Kira Harris-Braggs, Treasurer-LaShanda Fuller, Secretary-Dawn Curry, Committee Chairpersons: Lisa Armstrong, Terri Dix and DHS Band Booster Members I. Welcome President Thurmon called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM II. Officers Reports A. Treasurer LaShanda Fuller Mrs. Fuller shared that new/updated 2015-2016 sponsors are Edible Arrangements-Silver, McDonough, GA; Henry Vision-Silver, Stockbridge, GA; Interstate-Platinum. Mrs. Fuller also stated that Mr. Renner will be updating the trailer to reflect 2015-2016 sponsors and the Class of 2016 seniors. B. President Sheila Thurmon Ms. Thurmon shared that the adopted new bylaws were distributed to those in attendance and will be posted on the website. III. Old Business A. Acceptance of August Meeting Minutes President Thurmon solicited a motion to accept the August 2015 minutes which have been posted on the website. Motion: Melanie Dilahunty Second: LaShanda Fuller B. Ice Cream Sales Update President Thurmon asked Treasurer LaShanda Fuller to provide a general update on the lunch time ice cream sales. Mrs. Fuller estimated that the profit so far is $500.00. C. Starr s Mill Game Review President Thurmon expressed that due to the buses being late to take the band to the Starr s Mill game, Mr. Emerson talked to Principal Shaw who has spoken with the transportation department. 1

. D. Show Shirts Mr. Perez stated that Mr. Emerson is still waiting on the final box of Show Shirts to be delivered. E. Kroger/Publix Update President Thurmon is awaiting the Kroger quarterly update to determine how many individuals have signed up for the Kroger Community Rewards. Publix is shipping 400 school rewards cards that will reflect the DHS Band as a designee. Publix will credit the band when the card is presented during a transaction. Individuals may present the DHS Band card as well as other Publix rewards cards that are affiliated with other designees. Each organization will receive donation credit. F. Spirit Nights After discussion regarding choosing a date for a Chick Fil A Spirit Night it was decided that President Thurmon will request the 2 nd Friday in November for a DHS Band Spirit Night. IV. New Business A. Band Room Snack Sales Band room snack sales began this week. Per President Thurmon approximately $50.00 was made during the first week. Vice-President Harris-Braggs suggested having band students fill in when adult booster members aren t available to sell. President Thurmon expressed that she and Mr. Emerson were concerned about students being harassed and/or bullied and expressed students would only be used as a last resort. B. Cow Calendars Cow Calendar order forms were sent home on 9-17-15. The calendars are being sold for $7.00. President Thurmon stated that she is the only one that will collect the order forms to ensure that they have been completed accurately and thoroughly. If all 100 calendars are sold by 11/14/15 in addition to the $2.00 profit the band will receive an additional profit of 2

$0.50 per calendar. The executive board voted prior to the Booster meeting to give the students the $0.50 credit towards band fees. C. Concession Stand President Thurmon stated that she emailed Principal Shaw to decline selling concessions for the September JV/9 th grade games. The email stated the Band will sell concessions for the 10/1/15 9 th grade game and the Senior Night game on 10/23/15. Terri Dix will check into purchasing the Coke products for the concession stand. D. Belk s President Thurmon will complete the paperwork to have the DHS Band as a designee for the 11/7/15 Belk Charity Event. The $5.00 tickets will be sold at the Fall Concert. E. Cozzy Comfy President Thurmon will contact the Cozzy Comfy sheet representative to schedule a time frame for this fundraiser F. New Fundraising Opportunity Mrs. Terri Dix Mrs. Dix shared information about selling NBA and NCAA team tumbler cups. Mrs. Dix stated that her school profited approximately $5000.00. This fundraiser yields a 40% profit. The Boosters agreed to move forward with this fundraiser. President Thurmon along with the fundraiser committee will determine a date for this fundraiser. G. Friday Night Food & Game President Thurmon solicited a volunteer to grill hot dogs for the Band students meal for the game on 9/18/15. The menu is hot dogs, toppings, salad, chips and juice. Lisa Armstrong will prepare the meal. Volunteers are needed to assist with serving. V. Committee Reports A. Uniform Committee Chairperson LaShanda Fuller stated that Mr. Emerson has ordered the additional garment bags that are needed. Mrs. Fuller also stated that there is a need for Febreeze. B. Color Guard Committee Mrs. Curry reported on behalf of Chairperson Ms. Reynoso. The color guard committee wants to thank and acknowledge Mr. George Raymond on making the columns for the show. C. Concession Committee None D. Equipment Committee None 3

E. Fundraising Committee President Thurmon provided a brief update from the fundraising committee. The committee is looking into a Krispy Kreme fundraiser, Bruester s Spirit Night, Indoor Drumline Competition. Additionally, Mr. Emerson has agreed to use spirit wear as an incentive to encourage students to participate in fundraising opportunities. F. Media/Communications Committee President Thurmon stated that the website has been updated and now reflects new sponsors. Mrs. Terri Dix has volunteered to assist with the website updates as needed. G. Spring Banquet Committee None H. Parent Involvement Committee President Thurmon informed those in attendance that Mrs. Terri Dix will serve as the Parent Involvement Committee Chairperson. Mrs. Dix wanted to clarify her role as the committee chairperson. After discussion it was confirmed that Mrs. Dix s role will be to actively engage and solicit parents to be active and to volunteer. Mrs. Dix shared that the Banners for the seniors will be completed over Fall Break. The banners will be on display for Senior Night, the concerts and throughout the year in the Band Room. Seniors will be allowed to take the banners home after the Spring Banquet. The Boosters thanked Mrs. Dix for organizing the photo shoots for the seniors and coordinating the making of the banners. VI. Presentation of Revised 2015-2016 Budget President Thurmon presented the revised budget. After time to review the updates, President Thurmon solicited a motion to accept the budget.
