This work shall consist of furnishing and supplying a Low Power Wireless Modem at the locations indicated in the plans. The Low Power Wireless Modem shall contain all of the components described in the Material Specification and shall be configured as indicated on the plan sheets. 2. Materials. The Low Power Wireless Modem shall be a wireless system that operates on an unlicensed frequency channel. The operational frequency of the Low Power Wireless Modem is the approved FCC unlicensed frequesncy channel. The Low Power Wireless Modem shall include a Radio Unit, an FR Cable, and an antenna. The Radio Unit shall include radio data transmitter/receiver modules with a DC power supply that is compliant with the requirements in this specification. The Low Power Wireless Modem shall consist of the following major components: The assembly shall include a provision for system configuration, a setting for antenna Alignment, and the ability to monitor the modem alarm and testing. The Contractor shall provide a fully operational assembly with all cabling and terminations matched to support the selected components. A. Mounting Configuration. The Antenna shall be installed on the proposed pole, as shown in the plans. The Contractor shall install the antenna and RG cable based on the manufacturer s recommendation or as directed by the Engineer. The Contractor shall install the antenna at a permanent position on the antenna attachment. The antenna shall be mounted on the proposed pole at a position that provides line-of-sight path clearance to the far-end location. The antenna system shall be installed according to the manufacturer s instructions. The antenna shall be grounded using the pole grounding system. The Contractor shall mount the antenna rigidly, with adequate room for azimuth and elevation adjustment from the rear. The Contractor shall provide a specification of the mounting kit that includes the details on how to mount and adjust the azimuth and tilt. The antenna polarization shall be the same at both ends of the link, either vertical or horizontal. 5. Configuration Software. The Contractor shall install the Low Power wireless Modem Configuration software for operation and maintenance of the Low Power Wireless Modem. The Configuration Software shall be developed by the Low Power Wireless Modem manufacturer for configuration and setting the radio units on the wireless network. The Contractor shall install, configure, operate and test the Configuration Software for the proposed wireless links as shown on the plans. 4-6 6574

The Configuration Software shall be a software program used to interface with and configure the Radio Unit. The Configuration Software shall support the following functions or components: Laptop Settings function: to Setup the field programming laptop serial ports for interfacing with a Radio Unit. Range Test Function: to test the Radio Unit s range and monitor packets sent and received. Terminal Function: to set and read Radio Unit parameters using AT Commands. Modem Configuration Function: to set and read Radio Unit parameters. 3. Construction Methods. The Contractor shall prepare a shop drawing, which details the complete installation of the Low Power Wireless Modem assembly and all components to be supplied. Particular care shall be given to the interconnection of all the components and cabling. The Contractor shall submit shop drawings 30 days prior to the installation of the Low Power Wireless Modem to the Engineer for review and approval. The Engineer reserves the right to inspect and/or factory test any completed assemblies prior to delivery of the material to the project site. Any deviances from these specifications that are identified during such testing shall be corrected prior to shipment of the assembly to the project site. The Radio Unit shall be terminated in the equipment cabinet indicated in the plans. The Contractor shall install the antenna at the location indicated in the plans. The feed to the Low Power Wireless Modem shall be connected to a DC power source. The Contractor shall furnish and install a required RF and power cable that runs from the antenna to the Radio Unit under this item. The RF and power cable shall be of sufficient length to terminate all required functions in the equipment cabinet. Appropriate connectors must be supplied to interface the in-cabinet components to the Low Power Wireless Modem being installed. A Standalone Test shall be performed for each completed Low Power Wireless Modem. The test shall first be conducted from the cabinet utilizing the standard serial communication with minimum 19,200 bps data rate to a laptop computer. The Standalone Test shall verify the Low Power Wireless Modem is fully operative and can achieve its full throughput and bandwidth. In addition, with the use of the Configuration Software, the unit performance and characteristics shall be demonstrated to be in accordance with the specifications. The Contractor shall provide the Low Power Wireless Modem Standalone Test Checklist to the Engineer for review and approval prior to the test. The Central Operation Test shall be performed after establishing all communication links between network nodes and establishing the wireless network backbone as specified and shown in the plans. The Contractor shall provide the Central Operation Testing Procedure to the Engineer for review and approval prior to the test. All components to be supplied under this specification shall be warranted for a minimum of two years from the conclusion of the System Acceptance Test. This warranty shall include 5-6 6574

repair and/or replacement of all failed components via a factory-authorized depot repair service. All items sent to the depot for repair shall be returned within two weeks of the date of receipt at the facility. The depot location shall be within the United States. Repairs shall not require more than two weeks from date of receipt and the provider of the warranty shall be responsible for all return shipping costs. The depot maintainer designated for each component shall be authorized by the original manufacturer to supply this service. A warranty certificate shall be supplied for each component from the designated depot repair site indicating the start and end dates of the warranty. The certificate shall be supplied at the conclusion of the System Acceptance Test and shall be in effect for a minimum of two years subsequent to that date. The certificate shall name TxDOT as the recipient of the service. TxDOT shall have the right to transfer this service to other private parties who may be contracted to perform overall maintenance of the facility. The System Acceptance Test shall be approved after 6 month of central operation of the equipment without any failure. One copy of all operations and maintenance manuals for each Low Power Wireless Modem component shall be delivered for each unit installed. 4. Measurement. This Item will be measured as each unit furnished, installed, activated, tested and accepted in accordance with the Contract Documents. 5. Payment. The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Item and measured as provided under Measurement will be paid for at the unit price bid for Low Power Wireless Modem. This price is for equipment; cables and connectors; documentation and testing; labor materials; warranty; training; and incidentals. 6-6 6574
