The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2013. Purpose Holders of this certificate have the skills and knowledge required to work in the upholstery industry as competent cutters. They would normally be working in the manufacturing sector of the upholstery industry. The manufacturing upholstery sector of the furniture industry covers furniture assembly, fabric cutting, and general upholstery, including sewing. It differs from the restoration and recovery upholstery sector in that it mainly involves a narrow range of specialist skills and processes. The compulsory section of this qualification covers health and safety skills and the basic technical skills for a skilled operator in this area. The elective section enables candidates to select additional skills that fit with their job role. This qualification leads on from the National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery) (Level 2) [Ref: 0621] and can lead onto the National Certificate in Furniture (Restoration and Recovery Upholstery) (Level 4) [Ref: 0623]. Replacement Information This qualification, the National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery Sewing) (Level 3) [Ref: 0620], the National Certificate in Furniture (Restoration and Recovery Upholstery) (Level 3) [Ref: 0622], the National Certificate in Furniture Finishing (Level 3) [Ref: 1180], and the National Certificate in Furniture Making (Level 3) [Ref: 0965], have been replaced by the National Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Finishing, Machine Operator, Interior Fitments, Free Standing Furniture, Frame Making, Upholstery, Upholstery Cutting, and Upholstery Sewing [Ref: 1503]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. Previous versions of the qualification Version 2 was reissued in September 2005 to correct an error in the exemption table. Version 2 was issued following a review of the qualification. Changes to structure and content Title has been amended to include the level of the qualification; Level of qualification has increased from 1 to 3; Credit total has increased from 40 to 59; Total credits required from the elective section has decreased from 31 to 24;

NQF Ref 0619 Version 3 Page 4 of 5 Removal of standard 2206 from the compulsory section; Standards 14348, 14349, and 14350 have been moved from the elective to the compulsory section; Removal of standard 16237 from the elective section; Standards 2192, 20974, and 20975 have been added to the elective section. All new trainees entering the furniture upholstery industry from 2005 will be entered into version 2 of the qualification. People affected by the transition process will be contacted by and asked whether they wish to complete the version they are currently enrolled on or transfer to version 2. All versions of the qualification are, and will continue to be, acceptable to the. People who feel disadvantaged by the transition process should contact the (see contact details below). This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see table below. Credit for Exempt from 2188 14351 Version 1 of this qualification was one of a series of qualifications developed that replaced the National Certificate in Upholstery (Level 4) [Ref: 0094].
