TV Transmitters With a Patch Panels C B A D A TV transmitter shown during construction in our factory, with the patch panel option, viewed from the side. The feed from the transmitter (A) is connected to the antenna filter. The output of the antenna filter(b) connects to the patch panel. The connecting links (C)are normally configured so the full power is fed to the splitter(d) feeding the two halves of the transmitting antenna via the two outside links. The main purpose of purchasing the patch panel option is to reduce the likelihood of the transmitter going of the air due to antenna failure. The antenna is installed in two halves with two feeders as illustrated on the next page. If one half fails the full power can be configured via the patch panel to feed the fully functional part of the antenna. Loss of service can then be avoided especially when maintenance is delayed on the antenna due to extreme weather conditions. Other benefits are appreciated by maintenance engineers. Dummy loads can easily be connected. Radiation angles can be optimized so max power is transmitted to where its needed and not wasted by brodcasting above the horizon.
