Place bottom floor assembly on 2x4 s or an open box to keep it level. Position floor with seam as shown. 4. Place top floor on bottom floor. Making sure seams in floors are aligned. Locate in proper position over dividers below by inserting the two round top tabs on the top of each divider into round holes in the top floor. BE SURE round tabs are to the inside of each divider front (hidden) on the top floor. Note: The rope must be pulled up through the second floor. It will continue to be pulled up through the ceiling and finally the roof. 9

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS CEILING PLACEMENT Note orientation of plate on ceiling and the position of the lanyard lock mechanism on the underside of the first floor. It is IM- PORTANT that they are aligned as shown. 5. Align seam and lower the ceiling. Locate the tabs on the dividers and nesting the ceiling in position allowing the tabs to protrude through the holes. Pull rope through ceiling hole. It is IMPORTANT that the plate on the ceiling, and the lanyard lock mechanism are properly aligned to insure the rope passes through freely. 10

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS TIE RODS SECURING BODY OF HOUSE WRENCH WRENCH 6. Install one 6-32 acorn nut on one end of each tie rod (finger tight). Use small wrench after starting. Insert tie rods into round hole located between each set of D holes about 2 from edge on ceiling. Rotate tie rod slowly and secure the end that protrudes from bottom floor with a second acorn nut. Carefully handle assembly until all tie rods have been tightened. Inspect house assembly to insure all door rods are in place and all tabs from bottom floor are to the inside of divider above them. Then using the two wrenches provided to tighten acorn nuts on tie rods until snug. 11

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ROOF ASSEMBLY 7. Use two each 6-32 pan head machine screws (#35263) and two nuts (#35252) to attach two riveted roof sections as shown. The bend on larger section overlaps bend on smaller section. Do not tighten at this time. Repeat this step until all six riveted roof sections have been joined. 8. Place roof finial over roof peak and attach with six 6x3/8 Screws (#35250). Tighten all screws and nuts on the roof. WRENCH Tighten ALL screws on roof before installing onto ceiling. 12

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ATTACHING ROOF Pull rope through before securing roof 10. Once the rope has been pulled through the hole and the roof is resting on the ceiling - use the six screws found in Bag #900177 to secure the roof to the ceiling. 14

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS POSITIONING ROPE 11. The orientation of the rope is important. Place rope so that it nests in the two slots on either side of the center bracket attached to the ceiling. Pull until taught. The rope must stay secure in these slots until the pole is inserted. Once the pole is inserted - the rope will remain in place. Use tape to keep rope in place while inserting the upper pole section. 15

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INSERTING UPPER POLE Turn house on its side 16

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INSERTING UPPER POLE Before proceeding to Step #12 assemble the pole sections as outlined on PAGE 24 12. Insert the assembled upper pole section into the roof hole - as shown. When the pole reaches the locking mechanism on the bottom floor you will need to release the lock by pushing the lever away from the pole. Push the pole through until the end with the pulley assembly extends about 12. 17

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLING ROPE ON PULLEY 13. Unscrew the pulley assembly and work the rope around the pulley wheel as shown below. Once the rope is in place re-attach the pulley assembly and tighten with a wrench. Be sure that the rope in not crossed and still nested in the guide slots. Remove the tape. 18

Center Section Bottom Section #27850 Center Section Top Section #27856 Center Section #27858 Center Section #27858 Center Section Center Section HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FINAL ASSEMBLY Two People Required Once the pole sections have been assembled and the ground socket is cemented in the ground (see page 26), the combined house with upper pole may be placed onto the center pole section. Allow the rope to hang freely. Lower the house to approximately two feet from the bottom of the center pole section BEFORE LIFTING. This will provide a low center of gravity and ease insertion into lower pole section. Follow the instructions on Page 22 when ready to connect center to lower pole section. 20

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FINAL ASSEMBLY When the house is finally mounted on the pole, lower it all the way to the clamp that connects the lower pole to the center pole. Install the sub-floors and insert the doors on the upper level. Hook the doors over the door rods. Do not force. They should hinge freely and snap into the floor clips. Remove the stretch wrap around the lower floor. Open the doors and add a subfloor to each compartment. 21

Ground Sleeve Assembly Instructions + = Note: The Top pole will first be inserted into the house. Only after the house is assembled with the upper pole will it be connected as shown. 2) Before tightening clamp, turn upper pole until the groove in the pulley wheel is in line with the rope cleat. Tighten the 4 nuts found on the clamp. Note: Lower the TM12 House to about two feet from the bottom of the center section before attempting to insert into the lower pole. Important: Proper alignment of hardware is necessary for secure tightening pole to ground socket. Align Slots in tube with clamp as shown above. 25

GROUND SLEEVE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS GROUND SOCKET INSTALLATION: The ground socket must be installed in concrete to insure secure placement of the pole. Dig a hole using a post hold digger - approximately 8 in diameter and 24 deep. Place four inches of gravel at the bottom. Attach the ground socket to the lower pole section and place in the hole. Fill with concrete. Use a water level to achieve straight positioning. Guy wires or rope should be used to hold the pole in position until the concrete sets up. Important: To ease installation of ground sleeve insert the lower pole section into the ground sleeve and tighten the clamp. This will allow for use of a water level and insure that your pole stands straight. 2 20 Lower Pole all the way to the end of the ground socket before tightening clamp 4 26

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS RAISING AND LOWERING OF HOUSE Lever should be in this position when raising house LANYARD LOCK OPERATION Move lever in this direction to release lock and lower house The house lowering and raising device provides a positive means of locking your house anywhere on the pole. Pulling on the rope releases this lock and allows the house to be raised or lowered. Releasing the rope immediately locks the house on the pole. To lower the house - stand a few feet away from the base of the pole and pull. The lock lever must be pulled toward the edge of the house in order to release the lock. With the lever in this position, allow gravity to pull the house down by slowly allowing the rope to feed through the lever. To stop the house at any point simply loosed pull on the rope and allow it to drop into position. When raising the house, stand close to the base of the pole - pull rope straight down until the house is at the top of the pole. Once there it is automatically locked into place. CHECK YOUR ROPE EACH SEASON The rope should be checked yearly and replaced if worn. To replace rope (Part# 33000), lower the house and attach a new rope to the end of the old rope with tape or wire. Pull the new rope through with the old rope. Replacement ropes are available at www.erva.com 27

HOUSE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLING DOOR STOPS DOOR STOP INSTALLATION To install door stops, remove door, place it upside down on a flat surface and press door onto door stop. Then rehang the door. Use door stops to close house during winter months. 28

ENLARGING COMPARTMENTS OPTIONAL All Nature House Brand houses offer optional enlargeable compartments. Simply remove the inner room divider plug. Use the plug to close off the adjacent compartment. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ENLARGING COMPARTMENTS: Enlarged compartments create a dark cavity which is inviting to STARLINGS. If you choose this option and have starlings in your area, we recommend the use of crescent doors. Crescent doors are undesirable to starlings and help prevent starling predation. Crescent doors are sold separately and may be purchased from your favorite retail dealer or by visiting our website. We also offer Blank Doors which may be used in the adjacent enlarged compartment. To see these items and many more accessories for your TM12 please visit us at: The back cover of this manual shows the TM12 with crescent and blank doors. We recommend that you consult the Purple Martin Conservation Association for guidance when using enlarged compartments: www.purplemartin.org OPTIONAL CRESCENT DOOR OPTIONAL BLANK DOOR 29
