Students will look at the permanent exhibits as well as the changing ones to learn about the formal elements of art in real time and real life. Each week a different exhibit will be explored what ever's on view! The class will observe and draw in the galleries, then head back to the classroom to work on projects based on what was seen, discussed and sketched. Learn drawing fundamentals using the formal elements of art while creating various mythical beasts. Explore and imagine the worlds where these fantastic creatures live. Design from your own imagination the most mysterious of them all the chupacabra! Take home a one-of-a-kind t-shirt featuring your own mythical drawing. Conceptual Drawing & Design with Francesca Pelaggi 9 Fridays, October 2 December 11 3:30 5:00PM Ages 11-15+ Students will learn how to develop ideas through various techniques of creative thinking. They will be given challenging illustrative art projects where they will think outside the box to design book jackets, musical or movie posters and editorial or short story illustrations. Children will collaborate in a think tank setting, brainstorming creative and sometimes funny ideas for visual solutions to their projects. Mixed Media Collage 9:30AM 12:00PM Ages 10-14+ Explore some of the many mixed media methods using various tools you might use paint, you might use bleeding paper, maybe ink, or collage materials from any number of sources. Enjoy this eye-opening workshop while exploring methods and mediums available to ultimately express yourself in a unique work of art. Museum member $45, non-member $50 Organic Design Wall Mosaic with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo 12:00 4:00PM Ages 5 - adult Create an organic design wall mosaic using found objects such as seeds, gravel, stones, pebbles, sea shells, sticks, beans, and other items. Your finished mosaic piece will measure 12 inches square. Museum member $60, non-member $65, supply fee $15 TEENS & ADULTS Abstract Expressionism II with Fran Mann Goodman 4 Thursday, September 24 October 15 6:30 9:00PM Ages 16 - adult This class is all about creating mood and emotion on the canvas in creative ways. With the use of acrylic paint, students will be encouraged to work intuitively, layering their canvases with pumice, gels and molding paste, and applying the mediums with both usual and unusual objects. Discussions, demonstrations and individual instruction will be given at each class. Prior knowledge of drawing and painting is not necessary. This is a great opportunity for both the beginner and more advanced student to play in paint. Figure Drawing with Laurie Harden 8 Saturdays, October 3 November 21 1:00 3:00PM Ages 12 - adult Learn to draw the human figure from life beginning with quick, gesture sketches, and concluding with completed drawings from long poses. Learn proportions and correct relationship between the parts of the body, using guides like plumb-lines and negative spaces. Experience the chance to draw many types of figures.
