page 1 Overview The Phatshoane Henney Group of Associated Law Firms held its annual gala evening on Friday, 4 November 2011 at the prestigious Centenary Complex of the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. The group, currently in its 7th year, comprises of 24 law firms, 33 offices, 218 professionals and over 850 staff members across South Africa. The group has entered into multiple strategic partnerships with financial and corporate institutions and annually holds its gala evening to celebrate these partnerships and group achievements during the year. The evening involved a positive key note address by Mr Louis Fourie regarding the state of South Africa; the presentation of the Group Annual Report for 2011 by new Group Chair, Mr Douglas Henney; and the presentation of group awards by ABSA, First National Bank, Investec, Nedbank; Standard Bank and Phatshoane Henney to group firms. The evening was attended by over 160 guests including the guest speaker, Mr Louis Fourie; previous Group Chair and now Judge of the High Court, Violet Phatshoane; representatives of AON, Vodacom, Nedbank and Standard Bank, the sponsors of the evening; representatives of ABSA, First National Bank, Investec, Nedbank and Standard Bank; representatives of the Free State University, University of Limpopo and Current Group Chair, Douglas Henney and his predecessor, Judge Violet Phatshoane. page 3 The Evening The gala evening was held at the Centenary Complex of the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein Campus, with the evening commencing with cocktails, background entertainment and an opportunity for firms, partners and sponsors to mingle and network. In his key note address by Mr Louis Fourie, an independent economic advisor and well-known personality in the field of life guidance and personal mentorship to professionals and emerging business leaders, provided a comprehensive and positive overview of the state of health of South Africa, supporting his assessment of the good health of South Africa with statistics and international ratings of South Africa. brand and progressively ensuring that each firm is differentiated in its region of operation. He remarked that 2012 will see further expansion of the group with more member firms being targeted to join the growing national group. Douglas also highlighted the exceptional performance of the group in respect of black economic empowerment with group firms achieving an average Level Two BEE compliance in 2011 with 7 group firms achieving a Level 1 status. The formalities for the evening were concluded with the group awards ceremony. Following Mr Fourie, Mr Douglas Henney, Chair of the Phatshoane Henney Group, provided his annual report for the year 2010/11. In his overview of the year he highlighted the strong focus by the group on establishing group marketing infrastructure at each individual firm as well as for the group; enhancing the group Director at Phatshoane Henney inc., and Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Mr Sam Moleko keeps guests entertained throughout the evening. In his annual report, group chair, Douglas Henney, highlighted the group vision and strategic intent for 2012 and confirmed that the group would continue to focus on growing the brand, expanding its strategic relationships and increasing firm membership in the coming year. page 5 Group Awards Mr Sam Moleko, Director at Phatshoane Henney inc., conducted the awards ceremony with Group Certificates of Achievement being awarded to the following group firms: Nedbank Certificate of Achievement for continued exceptional contribution to make things happen through the Nedbank Corporate Saver during 2011. The award was presented by Mrs Janine van Heerden, Nedbank Portfolio Manager: Investment Management, to Kimberley law firm Van de Wall & Partners. Standard Bank Certificate of Achievement for the exceptional contribution made to the Standard Bank Third Party Fund Administration System during 2011. The award was presented by Mr Michael Reddy, Standard Bank National Service Manager: TPFA, to Port Elizabeth law firm Greyvensteins inc. Phatshoane Henney Certificate of Achievement for the law firm achieving the highest verified BEE score by a group firm in 2011, achieving a total of 104 out of 100 points on their scorecard. The award was presented by Mr Douglas Henney, Group Chair, to Port Shepstone law firm Barry Botha Breytenbach inc. First National Bank Certificate of Achievement for the firm with the best turnaround time on average for both first and further loans during 2011. The award was presented by Mr Albert Humphries, FNB Inland Sales Manager Home Loans, to Richards Bay law firm Kloppers inc. ABSA Bank Certificate of Achievement for the exceptional contribution made towards Black Economic Empowerment through Black staff appointments at the firm during 2011. The award was presented by Mr Joshua Motau, Regional Head: ABSA Home Loans, to Johannesburg law firm Wright Rose- Innes inc. Investec Corporate Cash Manager Certificate of Achievement for the exceptional contribution made to the Investec Corporate Cash Manager during 2011. The award was presented by Mrs Gerda Oosthuizen, representative of Investec Private Bank, to Pretoria law firm Van der Merwe du Toit inc.
