END OF YEAR COMPETITION RULES PRINT AND DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGES INTRODUCTION All financial and Life Members are eligible to compete while Associate and Honorary Members may not. All images entered are to have been taken in the 12 months prior to the competition with the exception of: images used in the Digital AV competition in which the presentation itself must have been made during the 12 months preceding the competition but the images have no specific time limitation images used in the A-Grade Challenge Shields in which images must have been taken in the 2 years preceding the competition. The term ' ' now means a 'Digital '. s for all End of Year competitions must be submitted to the Entries Officer at the November Judging evening (the first meeting in November) with the one exception of the Print of the Year competition for which entries must be brought to the second November meeting. No late entries will be accepted due to the short period available for the judging and preparation of trophies etc. Judging of Print of the Year, of the Year and the 25 Year Anniversary Shield for Panoramic s are judged by club members at the second meeting in November. Judging of the other End of Year Competitions will be by a panel of independent judge/s. A judge is deemed to be independent if he/she has not entered the competition. Page 1 of 10

PRINT AND DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGES PREPARATION FOR END OF YEAR CLUB COMPETITIONS If any image submitted for competition does not meet these criteria, it will not be included in the competition. PRINT ENTRY PREPARATION END OF YEAR COMPETITIONS Print entries shall have a minimum size of 4" 6" and shall not exceed 16" 20" (100mm 150mm to 400mm 500mm) It is preferable that all Print entries be mounted on card mounts. Mounts shall have a maximum size of 16" 20" (400mm 500mm). The reverse side of each mount must carry, in the top left hand corner, the member s club number, the grade level of the competitor, the section entered and the image title. Self-adhesive labels for this purpose are provided by the Club. The placing of the label indicates to the judge the required orientation of the print. DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGE PREPARATION EOY COMPS The MAXIMUM HORIZONTAL DIMENSION of each image must be 1920 pixels. The MAXIMUM VERTICAL DIMENSION of each image must be 1080 pixels. Each image file must be in an RGB OR GREYSCALE JPEG FORMAT. Entries are to be provided on a USB stick that has the member s name and club number clearly written on the outside of the stick. The only files on the stick should be the entries for the EOY competitions; no folder is necessary, just the image files. It will be at the discretion of individual Entries Officers if they will accept entries by email. Check with your current Entries Officer. File names must be in the following format with fields separated by underscores: Abbreviated Trophy Name (see below), Title (no more than 30 characters including spaces, but must not include hyphens or underscores), Member s Club Number.jpg For Print of the Year, of the Year and 25 Year Anniversary Shield for Panoramic s competitions please add your competition grade Page 2 of 10

END OF YEAR COMPETITIONS The End of Year (EOY) Competition shall be judged in time for the presentation of Awards at the Annual Presentation Dinner. With just a few exceptions, members who compete in monthly competitions in A-Grade, AB-Grade and B-Grade compete in the same EOY competition. Entries must be prepared and delivered to the Entries Officer by the competition deadline as set out in the Club's Annual Program. Trophies shall include: 25 Year Anniversary Shield for Panoramic s A & E Conservation Trophy for Prints A-Grade Challenge Shield for Prints A-Grade Challenge Shield for s Annette Smith Memorial Trophy Digital Audio-Visual Trophy Don Masters Honorary Sports Action Trophy Elizabeth Fritz Memorial Trophy for s Faces and Places Trophy Iris Lawler Portrait for Prints Iris Lawler Portrait for s Jim Smith Trophy for Industrial Subjects Monochrome Print of the Year Nature Trophy for Prints Nature Trophy for s Print of the Year of the Year. A trophy will only be awarded when there are at least two entries in that competition. A member may not submit the same image, or a substantially similar image, for the Print of the Year Trophy, of the Year Trophy or the 25 Year Anniversary Shield For Panoramic s. Each entry into these three competitions must be unique. An image entered in one of these three competitions may be submitted in another competition that is judged by a panel of independent s taken at a Technical Workshop conducted by the Club are ineligible for Monthly and End of Year competitions. s taken on Club outings are acceptable. If a photograph is to be submitted into more than one end of year trophy, a copy of the image is to be provided for each competition. The following conditions shall apply for these trophies: ANNETTE SMITH MEMORIAL TROPHY The Annette Smith Memorial Trophy was donated by Jim Smith and was first awarded in 2002. This trophy is presented to the most improved novice for the preceding year. It is open to B-Grade members of no more than two years membership. The awarding of this trophy is at the discretion of the Management Committee. Page 4 of 10

25 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHIELD FOR PANORAMIC PROJECTED IMAGES; PROJECTED IMAGE OF THE YEAR; PRINT OF THE YEAR The 25 Year Anniversary Shield for Panoramic s was donated by John Stein in 2006, the club s 25 th year. These awards are limited to one entry per member per trophy. The theme is open and can be in either colour or monotone. For the 25 Year Anniversary Shield for Panoramic s, the digital projected image must be in a panorama format - Must have a width of 1920 pixels Have a maximum height of 850 pixels All photographs must have been taken in the twelve months preceding the competition, the entries being those considered by the competitor to be their 'best effort' over that period. Judging will be on a written ballot by all attending members at the second meeting in November. From 2015, these three competitions will be judged as graded competitions i.e. using the members grades of B-Grade, AB-Grade and A-Grade. A certificate will be awarded to the winner in each grade. The perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall winner. The winners in each grade shall be the entry receiving the highest number of votes. The winning entries from each grade will then be voted on to select the overall winning image. In the event that more than one entry receives an equal number of votes in both the graded sections and overall selection, those entries will be re-shown and subsequent ballots taken until a clear winner is decided. The results will be announced at the Annual Presentation Dinner and the Entries Officer will hold all entries until the announcement of the results. A & E CONSERVATION TROPHY (FOR PRINTS) ELIZABETH FRITZ MEMORIAL TROPHY (FOR PROJECTED IMAGES) The A & E Conservation Trophy (For Prints) and the Elizabeth Fritz Memorial Trophy for s were first awarded in 1982. These awards are open to all grades and are limited to three entries per member per trophy. The theme is a photograph that features the natural scenery of the land or sea. A tree, or trees, buildings and people may be included but should not dominate. The setting must be Australian. Judging shall take place at the end of each competition year by a panel of three independent Page 5 of 10

A-GRADE CHALLENGE SHIELD FOR PROJECTED IMAGES; A-GRADE CHALLENGE SHIELD FOR PRINTS This trophy was first awarded in 2001. This trophy is open only to A-Grade members who have submitted entries in at least four monthly competitions in the current year. The theme is open and each entry shall comprise a series or set of four or five photographs which portray a sequence in a single event (e.g. a car crash, flower opening, etc.). At least one of the set or series must have been entered in one of the monthly competitions in the current competition year. All photographs must have been taken in the two years preceding the competition. If an entrant elects to enter all photographs as abstract, it shall be acceptable to include a photograph in the entry to show the origin of the set from which the abstractions were taken, provided that the additional photograph shall be judged as part of the entry. s submitted for the A-Grade Challenge Shield for s must all be projected images. s submitted for the A-Grade Challenge Shield for Prints must all be prints. A mixture of prints and projected images is not permitted. DIGITAL AUDIO-VISUAL TROPHY The Digital Audio-Visual Trophy was donated by Alan Fritz in 2012. This trophy is open to all grades and is limited to one entry per member. The theme is open. The presentation must have been made during the current calendar year and consist of images taken by the individual member. Any additional sources are to be acknowledged in the presentation. All presentations must be free of all rights of ownership that may be held by others, whether artistic or otherwise. The maximum time of the presentation will be 5 minutes. The entry must be a stand-alone (.exe) file that does not require additional software to run on the computer used for the judging. The member's name must not be displayed in the AV. The judges shall use Audio-Visual Jury Panel Assessment forms as provided by APS AV Division. No point scores are to be given; the judges will confer to decide the final winner. Page 6 of 10

DON MASTERS HONORARY SPORTS ACTION TROPHY The Don Masters Honorary Sports Action Trophy was first awarded in 2011. The award is open to all grades and is limited to three entries per member. The theme is sports action and the media is s. The location of the photograph may be either an indoor or an outdoor setting. FACES AND PLACES TROPHY (PRINTS) FACES AND PLACES TROPHY (PROJECTED IMAGES) This trophy was first awarded in 1992. From 2015, two trophies will be awarded; one for the print section and another for the projected image section. These trophies are open to all grades and are limited to one entry per member in each of the print and projected image sections. Each entry shall comprise two images (a) a face and (b) a place associated with that face. IRIS LAWLER PORTRAIT TROPHY (FOR PROJECTED IMAGES); IRIS LAWLER PORTRAIT TROPHY (FOR PRINTS) The Iris Lawler Portrait Trophy (for projected images) and Iris Lawler Portrait Trophy (for prints) were donated by Ross Lawler in 1982. Ross was the Founding President of the club. This trophy is open to all grades and is limited to three entries per member. The theme is that of a person or persons in a formally posed portrait. Group portraits such as a school class, in which a large group sits for the photographer, are acceptable but candid photographs taken with the subject unaware of being photographed are not acceptable. The location of the photograph may be either an indoor or an outdoor setting. Page 7 of 10

JIM SMITH TROPHY FOR INDUSTRIAL SUBJECTS This trophy will be awarded for the first time in 2013 in memory of Life Member Jim Smith (also known as Hamish ). The trophy has been donated by Jim s family to commemorate his love of photography and his long-time membership of the Aspley Camera Club. This trophy is open to all grades and is limited to three entries per member. The media is s. The theme is Industrial. s must show a particular industry or highlight tools. Items or details associated with a particular industry All photographs must have been taken in the 12 months preceding the competition. MONOCHROME PRINT OF THE YEAR This trophy was first awarded in 1997. This trophy is open to all grades and is limited to three entries per member. The theme is open and the image must be a monotone print. NATURE TROPHY (FOR PROJECTED IMAGES); NATURE TROPHY (FOR PRINTS) The Nature Trophy (for projected images) and Nature trophy (for prints) were donated by Geoff Blake, a Life Member, and Barbara Ness, early members of the club. These trophies were first awarded 1987. This trophy is open to all grades and is limited to three entries per member. The theme is that of Australian native flora or fauna i.e. excluding domesticated animals, cultivated plants and flowers and evidence of humans. Page 8 of 10

USE OF IMAGES FROM EOY COMPETITIONS IN INTERCLUB COMPETITIONS Aspley Camera Club regularly competes in the following annual interclub competitions: Queensland Digital s Competition Peninsula Camera Club Three-Way Interclub Competition Metropolitan Interclub Audio-Visual Competition River City Print Competition Salon of Excellence Queensland is not a competition that requires clubs to submit a club entry. Instead members may enter individually with a fee applying to entries. The club whose members have achieved the highest scores is awarded a trophy. This competition is held in conjunction with the Photographic Society of Queensland (PSQ) Convention, usually held over the June long weekend. International Competition a friendly competition with an international photographic club/s. In recent years the competition has been held at the end of the year with Livingstone Club in Scotland. Other invitations for interclub competitions may be accepted by the committee from time to time. Rules and conditions for each competition are set by the respective organising committees. Aspley members will be notified of the subjects set by the organizing committees of these competitions and entries called for. Generally the first 6 set subjects scheduled in each year are some of those required for interclub competitions. However a number of other sections are included in these interclub competitions. The following additional rules shall apply: All Digital s entered for EOY competitions may be used as club entries for interclub competitions that year unless the maker of the image advises the committee to the contrary. Members are welcome to submit additional images for the interclub competitions. These images should be given to the club s Interclub Competitions Officer prior to the selection of the club entry. The Committee shall determine the time, the venue and the method of selection of Club Entries. Club entries shall be marked appropriately by the Interclub Competitions Officer who shall forward them as per the rules of the competition. Prints shall be made available for collection by owners as soon as practicable after the competition. The Committee shall endeavour to display entries and results to all members at a Club meeting and on the club website.
