WARHAMMER 40K Event Format: SYSTEM RULES PACK Highlander The all comers event will run alongside a Highlander event, both will run a separate draw and award separate trophies. The event will follow the missions and rules as laid out in this rules pack. In the first round opponents will be paired randomly, we will post the draw on The Warhammer Forum prior to the event. A swiss pairing system will be used for rounds 2-5 using Victory Points to separate people on the same Game Points. If we only have a small number of entrants into the highlander we will ensure no duplicate games over the weekend. The tournament champion will be the person with the most Game Points (minus any deductions) after 5 games has been played. Cumulative Victory Points will be used as a tie breaker, with sports scores being used if required. Grudges for the first round will be accepted as long as they are called out on the Warhammer Forum in an appropriate manner at least 1 week prior to the event. Please take careful note of the army composition section below, are trying a few new restrictions and changes to add a new twist and also allow some of the new elements into the game.
Army Composition: All armies can contain up to 1650 points taken from the codices listed in the next section of this rules pack. We have taken the decision to reduce the points level to try and make games more relaxed in a 2.5 hour time frame. The following restrictions will be in place for all lists: Special Characters are permitted as long as any codex specific restrictions are followed. Standard 6 th Edition Force Organization Chart will be in use. Stronghold Assault is allowed Escalation is not allowed Data Slates are not allowed Strength D weapons/damage modified to: o S10 o AP1 o No rerolled saves allowed (units cannot take advantage of any reroll on a save) o Other rules like Primary Weapon are still in effect. No units with Mass or Structure Points No units with an AV value over 14 Any rerolled save is capped at 4+, eg, screamers with Grimorie would be 2+/4+ We will not be using any non-standard rules or missions from Death from the Skies Forge World rules are allowed restricted to 1 unit per army (40K approved units only) Highlander composition as below: 1. Except Troops (see below) no unit may be selected more than once. This restriction is applied across allied detachments. This rule applies to variants that have the same stat line: e.g. A Land Raider and a Land Raider Crusader count as the same. e.g. A Dreadnought and Ironclad Dreadnought are different. 2. Within Troops you may select the same unit more than once only when all options have been taken. Again this rule applies across allied detachments. e.g. no second tactical squad until you have a scout squad 3. Within Troops any duplicate entries are capped at 2 units. Each unit must be equipped different though (no spam) e.g. first tactical squad has lascannon/ plasma Gun - Second has Missile / Melta Please don t try to break the Highlander! Everyone gets the point of the event, for this reasons any list we believe is trying to contravene the Highlander will be returned to the sender for modification or can be entered into the all comers event instead. Non-GW, heavily converted and scratch built models are welcome, but they should be easily identifiable. Modelling for advantage is not allowed.
If your version of an existing GW model is of a different size to the original, then consider it to be the standard size of the current GW model for line of sight purposes etc. If in any doubt contact the event committee in advance at ribblerumble@ribblewarriors.co.uk Army list submission is before Midnight Sunday 20th July 2014. All lists that are not submitted correct by this date will suffer a penalty as per the main event rules pack. Please see the main event pack for info on how and where to submit lists to.
FAQ: th The Games Workshop Warhammer 40K 6 Edition FAQ documents will be used for all armies. If a new FAQ is released after list submission any rules changes will not be enforced, any new clarification may be considered if they answer difficult questions. The 40KGT FAQ will be enforced for Ribble Rumble. Time Limit: Each game is 2.5 hours. Should time be called before a game has ended by turn limit players should work out Tournament Points as detailed below to determine the winner. When time is called players must end their current action and cease playing immediately DO NOT start a turn if both players cannot finish within the time limit!!! Allowed Codices: Army Lists must be chosen from the Current version of one of the following Codex s: Blood Angels Black Templars Space Marines Dark Angels Space Wolves Grey Knights Imperial Guard Chaos Daemons Chaos Space Marines Dark Eldar Eldar Necrons Orks Tau Tyranids Sister of Battle (from white dwarf) Imperial Knights Legion of the Damed All successor books that link to the above eg Iyanden etc Codices must have been on general sale at least one calendar month before the event date to be used. Please note we may need to consider a revision based on what happens in the Guard Codes (Around D weapsons)
Fortifications: All fortifications except the Fortress of Redemption are permitted at Ribble Rumble 2013. Fortifications must either be GW official models or of a similar shape / size / function to be allowed. Number of access and fire points must be identical to the official GW model. All fortifications must be fully painted to the same standard expected of your army, they will be judged as part of your force for painting scores. Placing of fortifications is covered in the Deployment section in detail. Please contact us before the event if you wish to use a non GW fortification, to ensue no disappointment on the day. Terrain: Terrain will be preset for Ribble Rumble 2013 No player is to reposition any terrain during the event. If you would like a board rearranging please contact a referee. Please spend a few minutes before each game classifying each piece of terrain as per pages 90 to 107 of the 6th edition rule book. Please note that the following terrain types should be used during all games with no exceptions: Area Terrain (page 91) Buildings (see pages 92-97) Ruins (see pages 98-101) (not to be played as area terrain) Forests, Jungles and Woods (see page 102) (played as area terrain) Rivers, Lakes and Pools (see page 103 (not to be played as area terrain) The following terrain types should be agreed on between both players and are optional. If both players cannot agree please dice for it! Battlefield Debris (see pages 104-105) Mysterious terrain of any type The following terrain types will not be in use at Ribble Rumble 2013 Archeotech Artifacts Unique Terrain Allies: Allies will be permitted at Ribble Rumble 2013 as per pages 112-113 of the 6th edition rule book. All players need to make themselves aware of the restrictions around cross codex wargear usage, as per the 6th edition GW FAQ s. If you are relying on using special rules across army codex s that are not specifically allowed via either the 6th edition rule book or the GW 6th edition FAQ, please contact us prior to list submission to avoid a disappointing ruling on the day.
Missions & Battlefield: The following Eternal War Missions and Battlefield setups will be used for Ribble Rumble 2013. This is the order they will be played at the event. GAME 1 - Purge the Alien / Dawn of War GAME 2 - Crusade / Hammer and Anvil GAME 3 - Big Guns Never Tire / Vanguard Strike GAME 4 - The Emperors Will / Dawn of War GAME 5 - The Scouring / Vanguard Strike All mission special rules (including mysterious objectives) will be in effect as per the mission entry in the 6th edition rule book
Deployment: The following process should be used to start each game; this order overrides the process described in the rule book. 1. Discuss terrain and decide types as per the Terrain section of this rules pack. 2. Nominate Warlord and determine traits (page 111) 3. Generate Psychic powers if required. 4. Roll for Night Fight 5. Each player roll a D6, The player who rolled highest places the first objective using the rules from the 6 th edition rule book (page 121) 6. Each player roll a D6, The player who rolled the highest then chooses their table half as per page 119 of the 6 th edition rule book. 7. Starting with the player who rolled highest place any Fortifications using the following rules. Aegis Defence Line: Must be placed wholly within your table half, using the rules from page 114. If needed agree with your opponent to move existing terrain by a couple of inch to accommodate. Bastion / Skyshield Landing Pad Must replace an existing terrain piece, which is wholly within your board half. This terrain piece must be of a similar base size to the fortification being placed. The removed terrain should be stored safely in the plastic box provided under each table. Please DO NOT place terrain on the floor where it can get damaged. (it s not cheap!) Any issues please contact a Judge who will assist. Once your game is over please return the terrain to its original setup, as a courtesy to the next players using the table. 8. Players should now roll a D6 again to determine who will deploy their force first. The highest roll can choose to deploy first or second. Whoever deploys first will take first turn. 9. Deploy infiltrators 10. Make scout moves 11. Once both forces have deployed the player going second can attempt to seize the initiative. 12. Play game Have Fun!
Tournament Scoring: Now we have had more time to play and learn 6 th edition we want to try a slightly modified scoring system to award closer games and remove the harshness of rules like first blood.
