VGP 9040D/VGP 9040/VGP 9240/VGP 9043D-1G/VGF 9040 VGX 9xxx Modern, monitorable compact amplifiers for interactive HFC networks Innovative operational concept: Using electronic tuning elements, set using HTE 10 hand-held unit (fewer plugin cards and attenuation pads required, repeatable device settings) Integrated frequency-agile 2-pilot control enables quick commissioning: - Automatic levelling in the forward path, thus no need for time-consuming manual levelling - Automatic presetting of the return path possible Remote configuration of all setting parameters via monitoring system (can be activated/deactivated) High gain (up to 40 db), variable in interstage-position Latest GaAs-MMIC technology Very high output levels at lowest intermodulation products, even for interstage operation De-emphasis (inverse-equalization) insert position Remote powering: 7 A per input/output, local powering: 10 A Insert position for monitoring transponder (HMS/DOCSIS) Test sockets on input/output and in return path amplifier Integrated return path amplifier, settable gain Ingress Control Switch Aluminium die-cast housing with PG 11 connections Additional characteristics VGP 9043D-1G Frequency range up to 1,006 MHz High gain (up to 1 x 43 db) Pluggable diplex filters Additional characteristics VGP 9240 Two high-level outputs each with own output stage and configurable trunk output Frequency range 606/862 MHz, adjustable Gain and slope of distribution output can be adjusted individually The compact amplifiers with electronic tuning elements VGx 9xxx With the VGx 9xxx Kathrein offers a latest-generation compact amplifier series. A wide range of settings, electronic operation and excellent technical data at an unbeatable price/performance ratio. "Plug-and-Play" redefined Electronic setting of all important parameters, automatic levelling (only for VGP 9xxx) as well as remote configuration via HMS or DOCSIS monitoring ensure the shortest start-up and maintenance times. The copy function enables one to copy all settings and transfer them to another device at the press of a button. The absence of plug-in cards for gain and slope not only accelerates start-up, but also simplifies logistics and saves warehousing costs. Start-up without a measuring instrument it doesn't get any easier than this Due to automatic levelling, the compact amplifiers VGx 9xxx can be put into operation with just a few steps: Simply enter the desired output level for the lower and upper pilot frequency and start levelling After a few seconds, the device automatically sets the desired values, whereby optimal technical data are continuously reached Manual vernier adjustment is still possible at any time Subsequently, automatic presetting can also be effected in the return path For the next devices, levelling runs even more quickly. The copy function enables desired settings to be automatically incorporated Additional characteristics VGP 9040D Pluggable diplex filter 3

VGP 9043D-1G New Product The VGP 9043D-1G is an amplifier for forward and return path signals. The amplifier is equipped with 2-pilot control and two outputs. All amplifier settings are adjusted electronically using the hand-held control unit HTE 10. The bandwidth of the return path is determined by the plug-in diplex filter sets. In the forward range, which begins at 85 MHz and can reach 1,006 MHz depending on the inserted diplex filter, a wide range of attenuation and slope of the preceding cable network can be equalized. In addition, pre-emphasis can be applied to the output signals. The level fluctuations of the preceding cable and amplifiers caused by ambient temperature are equalized due to 2-pilot control. The frequencies of the pilot carriers can be set in a wide range on site. The type of modulation of the pilot carriers and pilot levels can also be determined on site. This controlled amplifier is designed to level itself optimally according to the current state of both pilot frequencies, the modulation type of the pilot carriers and the pilot level on output 1. Manual adjustment is also possible. The return path amplifier, whose transmission range is between 5-204 MHz depending on the inserted diplex filter, has a gain of 33 db. Two additional attenuation cells (6 db and > 40 db), are located on the inputs of the return path amplifier to detect ingress malfunction and switch these off if necessary. The amplifier has an insert position to accommodate an HMS or DOCSIS monitoring transponder (TVM xxxx). This transponder allows the amplifier status to be retrieved or settings to be made. Depending on the parameters obtained during the forward path auto-levelling process, the return path amplifier can be optimally adjusted for use in the network. The amplifier can be powered either through a remotefeed device locally or remotely via the input or an output. Remote-feed currents of up to 7 A for the amplifiers positioned before or after the unit can be fed through over the input or output. Note: For operation, the insert position on the input and output must be equipped with an EBC/EAC xx. Other insert positions are already equipped with null cards. Similar to illustration Modern, monitorable compact amplifier for interactive HFC networks Frequency range: 1,006 MHz High gain (up to 2 x 43 db), adjustable interstage Two high-level outputs GaAs technology in output stages Innovative operational concept: Using electronic tuning elements, set using HTE 10 hand-held tuning unit (fewer plug-in cards and attenuation pads required, repeatable device settings) Integrated frequency-agile 2-pilot control enables quick commissioning: - Automatic levelling in the forward path, thus no need for time-consuming manual levelling - Automatic presetting of the return path possible Remote configuration of all setting parameters via monitoring system (can be activated/deactivated) Very high output level (118 dbµv) at lowest intermodulation products, even for interstage operation Loop-through input and output splitter can be configured De-emphasis (inverse-equalization) insert position Remote powering: 7 A per input/output, local powering: 10 A Insert position for monitoring transponder (HMS/DOCSIS) Test sockets on input/output and in return path amplifier Integrated return path amplifier, settable gain Ingress Control Switch (ICS) Aluminium die-cast housing with PG 11 connections 13

This particularly economical series requires no equalizer cards or attenuation pads. All adjustments can be easily carried out using slide switches. Simple, yet effective The required attenuation and slope values are set with a combination of several slide switches. The advantages are obvious. Besides saving plug-in cards, this allows exact reproduction of setting values without requiring a measuring instrument. Replacement of the device, for example, is thus much easier. When slide switches are shifted, a virtually uninterrupted signal flow is guaranteed multimedia services remain undisturbed. Maximum reliability The implemented slide switches fulfil the highest demands regarding reliability and endurance. Dual goldplated contact reeds, increased contact pressure and a separate catch spring ensure ultimate reliability of the switches, which have been proven and tested 100,000 times. 19
