Assembling the Over Bed Table A) Attaching the Casters to the Base 1) The smaller caster 35m diameter wheel goes on the low end of the base, farthest from the column and the larger, 50mm caster goes on the column end of the base. 2) Using a hammer and punch (or a strong hand) force the caster onto the grip ring stem until a snap is heard and the axle housing rotates freely. Force should be directed to the axle housing directly over the hole into which the grip ring is inserted (See Fig K). Fig. K B) Attaching the Column to the Base Two persons make this process easier. 1) Place the base on the floor and tilt it toward you so that the underside is facing you. 2) Place the column on the floor so that it is resting on the front edge of the table support plate. Put one of the two lock washers on the threaded stud at the end of the gas spring (Fig A) and then have an assistant slide the gas spring through the hole in the base cover (Fig B) and secure the threaded end of the gas spring with the nut and second lock washer to the underside of the base. This nut must be tightened securely (Fig C). 3) Using the four 5/16-18 x 1-1/4 cap screws, securely fasten the column to the base as illustrated in Figure C. Gas Spring Nut and Lock Washer Fig. A Fig. B Fig. C - Page 3 -
C) Attaching the Top to the Column 1) Secure the Over Bed table top to the support bracket using the 6 wood screws. Holes for the screws have been predrilled. Warning! Do NOT use power tools to attach the top column. Overtightening may result in the top breaking free under force, from the column. The Over Bed table is now ready for use. Care and Cleaning of your Over Bed Table The Stance Transcend Overbed Table is made up of three components: Top, Column and Base. All of the components will withstand cleaning using a solution of 0.5 Hydrogen Peroxide (such as Virox ) or a 70% Isopropyl alcohol solution following the recommended cleaning frequency of a patient room environment as set out in such guidelines as Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning by PIDAC. Top The Transcend table top is available in two configurations; a molded polyurethane with a high pressure laminate insert or, alternatively, a PVC thermoformed top over a MDF substrate. The molded polyurethane edges should not be cleaned using bleach or harsh cleaners with abrasive additives. Iodine and Betadine have the greatest staining potential. The PVC thermoform top should not be cleaned using harsh cleaners with abrasive additives. In addition, cleaning products such as bleach or those containing solvents such as lacquer thinner must be avoided. Column The column is made of an anodized aluminum should not be cleaned using harsh cleaners with abrasive additives. Base The base cover is made of ABS plastic and should not be cleaned with any solvent based cleaner such as lacquer thinner. All cleaning products containing citrus oil must be avoided. Casters Casters should be regularly inspected and cleaned of debris that will impede their ability to roll and swivel. Frequency of Cleaning Cleaning frequency of the Transcend Overbed Table should follow the recommended cleaning procedures by such organizations as PIDAC. Typically in the case of patient room equipment, cleaning of the table top should be done after each use and daily of the entire table. - Page 4 -
Maintenance of your Over Bed Table A) Scheduled Service and Inspections Depending on frequency of use, the Over Bed table should receive scheduled service and inspections. 1) Casters should be cleared of debris to ensure that they swivel and roll smoothly. No lubrication is required. 2) The entire table should be check for structural integrity and damaged components. Looseness between the top and the column and the column and the base should be noted and corrected immediately. B) Adjusting the Column 1) Remove the Over Bed Table top. CAUTION: Once the weight of the top is removed the column will extend to its full height. 2) Remove the two screws (Fig D) which secure the upper column to the table support bracket and drop the column. 3) Of the four rollers in the carriage assembly, two adjust to increase or decrease the pressure of the rollers on the outer column this will be the upper roller on one side of the carriage and the lower roller on the opposite side. In order to adjust the rollers, begin by loosening the two jam nuts shown in Fig E. If there is excess play between the rollers and the column begin by adjusting one cap screw at a time clockwise in small ¼ turn increments with a Allen wrench (also shown in Fig E). Once you begin to feel a small amount of drag on the column when moving the column up and down, tighten the jam nut and repeat the same process with the other cap screw. If there is excess drag or tension between the rollers and the column back off both cap screws counterclockwise with an Allen wrench (as shown in Fig E) one or two full rotations. If the drag remains it may be necessary to run the column up and down by hand to force the rollers away from the column. If the drag still pesists you may need to slide the column off the rollers and then force the two U shaped adjuster brackets which house the rollers upward until they seat against the bottom of the cap screws. Once you can feel excess play between the rollers and the column next adjust one cap screw at a time clockwise in small ¼ turn increments until you can again feel a small amount of drag on the column. Tighten the jam nut and repeat the same process with the other cap screw. - Page 5 -
Jam Nut Fig. D Fig. E Fig. F 4) The rollers should not be lubricated. 5) Resecure the column and the top to the table support bracket and reinstall the top. 6) Wobble end to end of 1/4" and side to side of 1/4" is acceptable. See Figure F. C) Replacing the Gas Spring 1)Turn the table on its side and remove the M8 nut and lock washers which secures the gas spring to the underside of the base (Fig C). 2) Remove the two screws securing the upper column and lower the column toward the base (Fig D). 3) Now loosen the jam nut and unscrew the rod from the Table Support Plate (Fig H). 4) Remove the old gas spring and install the new one. 5) Assemble the table in the reverse order. CAUTION: When threading the rod of the new gas spring into the Table Support Plate, extreme care should be taken not to damage the rod. The jam nut must also be threaded all the way down to the end of the rod before installing the rod.
