THE COLLEGE Theatre Technician PART-TIME (0.6 FTE) All Saints' College is a highly-regarded, independent, Anglican, day-school widely recognised for its leadership in the area of coeducation. Located 15 minutes south of the Perth CBD on a 19 hectare campus in Bull Creek, the College currently caters for approximately 1250 students from pre- Kindergarten through to Year 12. THE OPPORTUNITY Our Centre for Performing Arts (CPA) was officially opened in March 2013 and signifies the College s commitment towards education in drama, dance and music. This architecturally designed theatre was built under the guidance of a theatre-consultant to ensure contemporary practices were used in the design of the acoustic and optical qualities of the complex. In June of this year the CPA was among five finalists at the 2013 Master Builder s Excellence Awards for the prestigious Best Project Overall in Western Australia. Other finalists included the Perth Arena, QEII Hospital and Brookfield Place. This signifies the architectural grandeur of our theatre, which, notably, did win the Best Education Building Award. Further, in July the CPA also received two awards at the 2013 AIA Architecture Awards, which included an Architectural Award for the interior. We are seeking the services of a dedicated and experienced Theatre Technician to provide technical support for performances, events and activities occurring at the CPA. Reporting to the Theatre Manager, the Theatre Technician will also be responsible for facility and event management, and maintenance of equipment. The person we are seeking will be passionate about the arts, as we are, and should have a strong technical background with theatre systems. DUTY STATEMENT OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: THEATRE TECHNICIAN The Centre for Performing Arts is a state of the art facility that signifies the College s commitment towards education in drama, dance and music. This architecturally designed theatre was built under the guidance of a theatre-consultant to ensure contemporary practices were utilised in the design of the acoustic and optical qualities of the complex. The Theatre Technician is directly and primarily responsible to the Theatre Manager for dayto-day and night technical operations and support of the Centre for Performing Arts (CPA) and its operational and administrative management. This scope of responsibility covers the use of the CPA facility and performing arts areas for all events and activities including College use and also when hired by external organisations. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties in relation to the position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Technical Support Employ technical skill and knowledge to support all events and activities within the Centre for Performing Arts, whether the events and activities are mounted by the College or by an external organisation. Provide expertise and assistance for the setup of technical equipment including audio, lighting and AV infrastructure as required by all users of the facility. Provide technical expertise and assistance as required for students and staff in the technical and front of house operations including: i. Production management ii. iii. iv. Stage management Lighting design and operation Audio production and operation v. Scenery and props construction and handling vi. vii. viii. Audio visual production and operation Theatre safety and protocols Theatre ushering and audience safety procedures
(e) (f) (g) Provide expertise and technical support for other designated College events held oncampus or at off-campus venues. Provide support to the Theatre Manager with the maintenance of the technical equipment. Provide teaching support by providing, in liaison with the Theatre Manager and Head of Performing Arts, technical workshops for students. Assist with the supervision of the All Saints College Technical Theatre Club. (ASCTTC) 2. Staff Management Manage and supervise external clients, as House Duty Manager. Supervise teaching staff, AV and IT staff, students and/or external technicians when working with theatre equipment, under the direction of the Theatre Manager. Assist with mentoring, training and induction programs for students, staff and visitors to ensure compliance with safety regulations and College policy. 3. Facility and Event Management (e) Assist with the operation of the Centre for Performing Arts facility as required by the Theatre Manager for College, community and external parties for each event including the: i. day-to-day bookings and schedules. ii. iii. iv. hiring and organisation of any additional equipment required. assistance and at times, supervision of bump in, bump out and technical rehearsals. supervision of necessary additional personnel as required for events. Oversee the front of house and box office for external events (with the assistance of other staff). Provide technical support and advice. Help develop and implement standard operating procedures and documentation. Identify cost efficiencies during production planning. 4. Facility and Equipment Maintenance Ensure building systems are operated in accordance with College policy and maintained in accordance with manufacturer s instructions. Help develop and co-ordinate maintenance programs for all technical equipment in the CPA, including preventative maintenance and improvement measures for technical theatre equipment and facilities. Help develop practical and effective storage systems for technical theatre items. Ensure the security of the Centre for Performing Arts with the implementation and application of appropriate lock up procedures. 5. Customer Service Be aware of the community ethos at All Saints College, and work with a focus on customer service. Utilise skills and experience to assist internal and external users of the Centre for Performing Arts facility.
Be proactive in pursuing areas of promotion and awareness of the Centre for Performing Arts across the College and wider community in consultation with the operations team. Assist the Theatre Manager with the preparation of the annual budget for the CPA facility. 6. Occupational Safety & Health Ensure that the Centre for Performing Arts operates in a tidy, organised, safe and efficient manner and that all equipment is maintained to required safety standards. Ensure that staff, students, contractors and visitors at all times adhere to OSH requirements. Assist with the monitoring of compliance with relevant regulatory and College safety requirements. HOURS of WORK Part-time ongoing 0.6 load (22.5 hours per week). Evening and weekend work will be required and hours need to be flexible. ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES Strong technical background with theatre systems including: A current motor vehicle (car) licence is essential. A Current Working With Children Clearance is essential. Knowledge of theatre and live sound (digital and analogue systems). Knowledge of multi-channel radio microphone systems. Knowledge of multi-media switching systems in a theatre environment (Black Magic and Roland). Experience with multi format DVI, HDMI, SDI, HDCP encoding issues and component video specifications. Knowledge of Smart monitor software and virtual server control set up. The ability to create, interpret and implement lighting design. Understanding and operation experience with Passport DMX Ethernet systems. Competence in the use of computer-based programs, I-pad control apps and network management. Experience with programmable motorised flying systems (Jands). Experience and ability to work at heights and at heights rescue retrieval (high risk card). Accreditation to operate an Elevated Work Platform (EWP). Demonstrated proficiency in theatre house management and operations Stage management. Show information system software (Magic-info, Samsung) DESIRABLE SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES Current experience in the operation of performing arts venues is essential and formal qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable.
