After going to college for graphic design, she worked for the Keizer Times news, the Salem school district, as a church communications director, and as a freelance artist. She has been active in the Graphic Artists Guild, the Salem Art Association, and numerous online artist networks. Rachel has a strong desire to see the arts used to encourage people. Cartooning Cartooning 101 teaches the basic instruction on how to draw simple cartoons. During our fall term, the students will be taught to draw cartoon people; during our spring term, they will learn how to draw cartoon animals. The class starts with facial expressions and moves on to learn how to draw basic cartoon bodies. We will introduce a variety of styles, including Charlie Brown and Chibi style cartoons. Students will also learn how to draw a few props and basic settings. Our teacher is able to work with students of all abilities, beginner to advanced to grow in their cartooning skills. Lettering Lettering will explore ways to creatively form letters, and many ways to decorate them. The class starts with learning a few basic styles of lettering. Then we progress to creating our own styles. First semester students will learn the basics of making monograms, and colored, decorated initials. Students final projects will be lettering their own initials, to show their own style, interests and taste. Second semester students will learn the basics of spacing, blocking out and creatively lettering a favorite quotation or word. They will learn to make letters look like they go together, to choose a lettering style to suit their quotation, and how the power of style, size and emphasis, can make their quotation pop! Our teacher is able to work with students of all abilities, beginner to advanced to grow in their lettering skills. Remember to register for classes now to have the best selection!!
