Kinney Road at Hal Gras Road 85735 Birding Colossal Cave Mountain Park What: Explore the bountiful birdlife that inhabits the Arizona Uplands of Colossal Cave Mountain Park. Discuss the importance of saguaros to native wildlife, as well as native peoples of the Sonoran Desert. Tour of Historic Canoa Ranch Date: Tuesday, November 6 Anza Tour at Historic Canoa Ranch What: Learn about Colonel Juan Bautista de Anza and the group of Spanish colonial settlers who, in 1775, made their first stop at Canoa Ranch as they began an epic 1200-mile journey from Sonora, New Spain to colonize the port of what is now San Francisco. A 5-mile segment of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail extends through Historic Canoa Ranch. All Date: Wednesday, November 7 Time: 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Restoration Tour What: From deteriorating ruins to functional buildings: take a behind-the-scenes tour with Architectural Preservationist Simon Herbert to examine the processes and materials used in the restoration of the structures at Historic Canoa Ranch. All Date: Wednesday, November 7 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The Wonderful World of Bats What: Explore the exciting nightlife of bats, their intriguing adaptations, and the important roles they play in the environment. Discuss current threats to bat populations and what efforts are being made to protect them. All Date: Friday, November 9 Time: 11:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Where: Mission Library, 3770 S Mission Rd, Tucson, AZ 85713 Stargazing Agua Caliente Park What: Explore the wonder and unfold the mysteries of the night sky. Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association volunteers provide an introduction to the night sky and set up telescopes for celestial viewing. Feel free to bring your lawn chair. All Weather permitting. Raptor ID Workshop What: Hawks, eagles, and their relatives are iconic birds, serving as mascots for sports teams and symbols of wilderness. Raptors, however, pose some significant identification challenges to birders. This workshop will introduce techniques to enable birders to better identify raptors. Ages 12 and up. Date: Sunday, November 11 Time: 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Cost: $10 with Membership, Non-Member $15 fee. Online registration required. Birding Sweetwater Preserve What: Explore the scenic Arizona Uplands of Sweetwater Preserve, where we can expect to see three species of woodpecker, resident and wintering sparrows, and many other birds. Tour of Historic Canoa Ranch Date: Tuesday, November 13 Nuts about Nature Preschool Hour at Brandi Fenton Park What: Join us for child-friendly fun as we learn about nature through stories, crafts, and games. Explore a new nature topic each month. Children ages 3-5 with an adult companion. Date: Wednesday, November 14 Time: 10:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Where: Brandi Fenton Memorial Park Visitor Center, 3482 E. Beginning Birding Workshop What: Join us for a two-part introduction to birdwatching that will focus on the most common birds in the region, as well as techniques for identifying them. Participants will learn to recognize birds by size and shape, behavior, plumage, and habitat, and also how to use binoculars and field guides. Ages 12 and up. River Road 85718 Sonoran Desert Weedwackers What: Join the Sonoran Desert Weedwackers to eradicate buffelgrass and fountain grass in Tucson Mountain Park. Stargazing Tucson Mountain Park What: Explore the wonder and unfold the mysteries of the night sky. Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association volunteers provide an introduction to the night sky and set up telescopes for celestial viewing. Feel free to bring your lawn chair. All Weather permitting. Family Desert Discovery Hike What: Come explore the simple beauty of the Desert Discovery Center and enjoy an easy, guided trail hike in the saguaro-studded foothills of the Tucson Mountains. Together families learn about plants and animals as well as how to watch for signs of wildlife. Hike Rock Wren Trail What: Enjoy the scenic and rugged beauty of the Tucson Mountains on a moderate level, 3-4 mile interpretive hike through Sonoran Desert uplands. Ages 12 and up. Birding Cienega Creek What: Join us on this guided walk to observe the rich birdlife in the desert and riparian habitats of Cienega Creek Natural Preserve. All Date: Tuesday, November 20 Where: Gabe Zimmerman Davidson Canyon Trailhead at Cienega Creek Natural Preserve, 16000 E. Marsh Station Road 85641 Hike Brown Mountain Trail What: Enjoy spectacular views of the Tucson Mountains on this 3-mile guided hike with a Pima County naturalist. Ages 12 and up. Date: Tuesday, November 20 Time: 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Where: Tucson Mountain Park, Brown Mountain Trailhead 8451 W. McCain Loop Road 85735.

Tour of Historic Canoa Ranch Date: Tuesday, November 20 Hike Sweetwater Preserve What: Explore this 880-acre natural preserve known for its numerous palo verde trees and huge saguaros that adorn its hillsides on a 2-3 mile naturalist guided hike. Ages 12 and up. Date: Wednesday, November 21 Time: 8:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Where: Sweetwater Preserve, 4000 N. Tortolita Road, south of El Camino Del Cerro Cost: Free with Membership. Non-member $5 fee. Online registration required. Family Birding at Kino Environmental Restoration Project (KERP) What: Join an all-ages walk for beginning birders to explore the diversity of birds found in our area. Identify birds by shape, plumage, and behavior, and learn how to use binoculars and field guides. Loaner binoculars available. Time: 8:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Where: Sam Lena Park/KERP, 3400 S. Country Club Road 85713 Cost: Children free. Adults free with Membership, Non-Member Adult $5 fee. Online registration required. Birding Canoa Ranch What: Join birding expert Brian Nicholas to see a wide variety of sparrows, raptors, and the possibility of waterfowl on the pond at Historic Canoa Ranch. All Anza Trail Hike What: Explore a 2 to 3-mile section of the Anza Trail during an easy level interpretive hike and discover the cultural and natural history of the Santa Cruz River Valley. Following the hike there will be an optional tour of the historic Canoa Ranch headquarters. Ages 12 and up. Time: 8:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m.

Nature reveals another side in the night hours; there is always something to discover! Dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water and a flashlight. Ages 12 and up. Time: 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Tour of Historic Canoa Ranch Date: Tuesday, November 27 Birding Maeveen Behan Desert Sanctuary What: Take a guided walk on flat trails through saguaro-ironwood desert habitat to see a variety of upland birds as well as water birds on the adjacent ponds.
