Subject: County Photography Show Photos Due: March 15, 2016 Photography encourages communication through visual media. With the advancement of digital technology, participation in the 4-H Photography project has grown rapidly. Combining their knowledge and technical skills with their creativity, many youth produce high-quality photos that impact the audience in positive ways. At the county level, for 2015-2016, we will adopt the state categories and judging criteria, but will submit the photo entries in print format. This year, the photos will be submitted to the Tarrant County Extension office as a non-mounted 8x10 photo print. The Texas 4-H Photography Contest Rules have been released for those Senior members (grades 9-12 ) who qualify for advancement. All entries at the state level will be required to submit their entry digitally (so please retain your entries in high resolution digital formats). 2015-2016 4-H Tarrant County Photography Show Guidelines Contest Objectives: To develop life skills in composition, light, story line, posing, and awareness. To encourage 4-H members to use photography as a meaningful communication tool in their lives. To provide photography project showcase opportunity for senior 4-H members. To continue to share the message of 4-H. To utilize photographs which can promote and strengthen the 4-H program. Links to companies are provided for their educational resources only. Categories: The category options have been expanded to offer a total of 15 categories. Categories are not subdivided into classes (color, black & white, or all media). Therefore, the contestant should select the format that is most appropriate for the desired photo effect. Please do not enter photos which are duplicates from other categories or ones that do not clearly meet the category description. Photos that do not meet the description of the category may be disqualified.
Descriptions of Categories: Categories People Animals Wildlife Animals Domestic Marine / Aquatic Elements of Design Nature & Landscape Plant / Flora Details & Macro Digital Darkroom Theme Night Photography Food Dominant Color Catch-All Storyboard Descriptions Photos include people from all walks of life, parenting and family, children, babies, sports, etc. Must have Model and Property Release. Focuses on animals that are not tamed or domesticated and commonly found in the wild throughout the country and world. Photos can be of wildlife in nature, zoos, and/or petting zoos. Examples include: Deer, snakes, insects, elephants, rodents, etc. Includes various animals that have been tamed and made fit for a human environment. Examples include: Dog, Sheep, Pig, Cat, Camel, Llama, Hamster, etc. Photos of any living organism in bodies of water. Examples include: Fish, stingrays, whales, starfish, etc. Use graphic elements of design. Showcase line, shape, pattern, form, texture, perspective, etc. Not graphic illustrations. Examples include: Perspective, line, pattern Includes landscapes, outdoor scenic, nature images, sunsets, urban landscapes, seascapes, farms, etc. Examples include: Landscapes, Scenic, Outdoors, Sunsets/Sunrises Photos of interesting, unique, and beautiful flowers and flora. Subject should consist of a single flower, plant, bush, tree, etc. Large collections of plants may better fit the Landscape category. Examples include: a rose, tree, flower bouquet, etc. Macro photos are close-ups that focus on details. Examples include: details of insects, flower parts, a lock, a knot, etc. Photos are for digital art-images created or drastically altered in software like Photoshop, etc. Although digitally manipulated images are also allowed in the other categories, this category is exclusively showcasing such art. Examples include: Photoshop composites and creations, images greatly manipulated with filters, photos with artistic borders, photos stitched into a panorama, etc. The 2015-2016 theme is, 4-H Ribbons, Awards, and Recognition. This year the theme will focus on still life arrangements of 4-H awards, ribbons, and recognition. The arrangement and positioning of items will be strongly evaluated as well as the quality of the photo. The photo should create emotion and have impact! Photos taken outdoors between dusk and dawn. They may be achieved using artificial light or using a long exposure. Examples include: buildings, animals, people, etc. at night NO SUNLIGHT AT ALL - - NO SUNRISES - - NO SUNSETS Still life with specialization aimed at producing attractive photographs of food for use in such items as advertisements, packaging, menus, and cookbooks. NO PHOTOS OF ALCOHOL BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED Examples include: Thanksgiving dinner, cakes, fruits, Easter eggs, ingredients, etc. The dominant element in the image must be a specific color. Black and White photos are excluded from this category. Category for photos that do not fit into one of the other categories. This includes non-food stilllife, motion-blur, Polaroid transfers, etc. One photo that contains 3 smaller images and minimal text that tells a story.
Rules & Guidelines: 1. Eligibility of Photos: All photographs must have been taken by 4-H members between the dates of January 1, 2015 and the time of entry. Photos may be submitted in only one category 2. Number of Entries: You may have only one entry per class. A single photo may not be entered in multiple classes. 3. Entry deadline: Entries must be submitted by March 16, 2015 to the Tarrant County 4-H office. 4. Size of Photograph: Each photograph must be a true 8 inch by 10 inch photograph. (Please do not mount.) 5. Digital Files & Negatives: Entrants must be able to provide original digital files upon request. All state-qualifying entries will require original digital files. Maintain in high resolution format. 6. Refusal Rights: The Tarrant County 4-H office reserves the right to refuse inappropriate or unsuitable entries. 7. Judges: Judges will determine the awards. Their decisions will be final. 8. Awards: Blue, Red, and White quality awards will be given based on the score sheet criteria. Proper Labeling of Photos: Each entry must include the following information to ensure proper entry. Some information will be based on the division and class entered. The information MUST be legibly printed or typed on the photo release and affixed to the back of the photo. This form can be found online in a PDF format on the Tarrant County 4-H website under Current Events. Entries that do not follow the proper labeling procedures may be disqualified. DISQUALIFICATIONS OF ENTRIES: Entries that do not follow the rules, division and class guidelines or any general guidelines will automatically be disqualified. Reasons for disqualification: Incorrect size Mounted improperly or not securely mounted Entered into incorrect division and /or class Same photo entered into multiple divisions and/or classes No signature(s) More than one entry in a division and class Inappropriate for public display, etc. Release of Liability: The Tarrant County 4-H office and/or its employees/agents involved in the contest will not be held liable for missing, mislabeled, damaged, or non-displayed photographs. By entry the 4-H member accepts this release. Display and Future use Rights: By submitting an entry to the contest, the 4-H member grants permission to the Tarrant County 4-H and the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, Texas AgriLife Extension, the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation, and any other public or private agency authorized by the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, the use, and rights associated to the use of the photographic likeness, in displays/exhibits, promotional publications, and other media, without compensation. Certain photos will be retained for future 4-H programs and marketing uses. By entry the 4-H member accepts these conditions of display and future use.
Photograph Labels: Complete the label prior to attachment on photo. Please avoid using gel ink (or any inks that smear).
