Overview This document provides information about the PAPA Hytera code plugs. You will find instructions for getting started, and some information about settings in the code plug itself. You can get this from DMR-MARC.net. This organization issues radio IDs system wide so there are not numbering conflicts. Use the link Page 1 of 12
below for the page you need. Follow the prompts to request an ID. You will typically receive it by email in 4-8 hours. You only need one radio ID, you can use this ID on multiple radios without any issues. The only time I would recommend having more than one would be if you have different brands of radios. There are some subtle differences in how some of the radios work and these need to be setup in Self Care (the next section) https://register.ham-digital.org/ Self Care On the BrandMeister web site, you should register and create a login. Next, visit the Selfcare page ( https://brandmeister.network/?page=selfcare ). These changes need to be made before the Radio Reporting Service (RRS), GPS, and text messages will work. Make these changes: Set your radio brand to Hytera / Kenwood APRS Callsign to <callsign>-ssid, for example KA1BCD-7 Select the APRS Icon you d like Turn on In Call GPS only if you are using a Hytera repeater or a hotspot. Set the APRS Text - This is used for both the APRS gateway and Talker Alias. BrandMeister will prefix this message with your call sign. Page 2 of 12
First Time Programming Tips The first time you send a downloaded codeplug to your radio, you will need to use the Clone mode. This is because the radio serial number is stored in the codeplug file and it will not match your radio, you will get an error. Here are the steps: 1. Use the Clone mode to send the codeplug to your radio. 2. Close the file (File Close) 3. Read the radio and save the newly read file using a new name. For example <callsign> <radiomodel> <yyyy-mm-ddd> or KA1BCD MD782G 2018-01-04. 4. Change the radio alias, this is in Common Setting at the top of the page. Most people use something like KA1BCD Steve, but it is up to you. 5. Change the radio ID, this is in Conventional Digital Common Basic. You will find the Radio ID (Digital) in the Basic Setting section, at the top of the page. 6. Save the file again 7. Write the file to the radio 8. Give it a try and read through the remainder of the document Reference The Hytera codeplugs on the PAPA website were created using CPS version 8.05.06.008(NA2) and expect radios to be on their most current firmware. Change Requests If you would like to request changes to the codeplugs, you are will to send them to https://papa.on.spiceworks.com/portal/tickets, set the category to Codeplugs and the subject should start with Hytera Codeplugs. You are, of course, welcome to change your own codeplug as you see fit. You are welcome to send questions about this as well. Page 3 of 12
Zones There is a zone for each DMR repeater. There are additional zones for for the PAPA Analog repeaters, simplex channels, and three starter zones for using a HotSpot. The general layout for PAPA DMR repeaters is shown below. Channel Name Talkgroup ID In Zone In Scan List Talkaround California 3106 California-1 31061 Local 2 USA/3100 + 3100 PAPA 31077 Reflector + 9 SoCal 31066 SoCal-1 31067 TAC-310 310 Worldwide 91 Analog Simplex 99 + Not included on the PD362 or AR482, these radios are limited to 128 channels In the Channel Name column you can see the talkgroups included. Analog is for the analog repeater on the same hill. For example, the Santiago zone includes a channel for P03. In all cases the Simplex frequency is 441.000. The Talkaround column indicates the channels where talkaround (simplex on the repeater output) is enabled. On the simplex channel, only talkaround is available. On the radio, each DMR channel has a 3 character prefix that identifies the repeater it is associated with. For example STG Socal would be the SoCal channel on the Santiago repeater. Page 4 of 12

Buttons Each radio has different buttons, each button can be programmed to provide specific functions. Buttons for the different radios are shown in the following sections. Each radio is on a different page to make printing easier. Preset Channels Some radios have enough buttons to include preset channels. If your specific radio has preset channels available, they are setup as follows: Preset 1 is set for Santiago SoCal, this is the home channel for the code plug author Preset 2 is set for roaming on SoCal Note: Preset Channels are not available on the PD36x or AR482 These channels can be easily changed in CPS by navigating to Conventional General Setting Setting and modifying the Preset Channel section. Simply change the zone and channel using the drop-down lists. Page 6 of 12
Quick Text Messages You will also see there are some quick text messages. These are attached to the number keys on the front of the radio. By pressing one of these buttons the radio will send a text message and you will get a response. Repeater Report - returns a list of the active static and dynamic talkgroups on each timeslot Weather Report - returns a weather report for your location (if available) or for the repeater you are currently using GPS Report - If you have GPS enabled, you will receive back your current location as GPS coordinates and a physical address. These buttons will send the text message immediately, with no confirmation. Be careful with these buttons. This is fully implemented in the portables, but not in the mobiles...yet. Page 7 of 12

Some of the codeplugs have support for California and PAPA as well. Use this as an example for setting up roaming for other groups you are interested in. Note: not all Hytera radios support roaming...most do. Page 11 of 12
HotSpots There are three zones for hotspots. In all cases the frequency is 435.000. You will need to change this on each channel if you are using a different frequency for your hotspot. HotSpot (HS) - Has a variety of interesting talkgrops HotSpot Remote (HSR) - Includes remote commands for the MMDVM-based hotspots (not on the PD362 or AR482) HotSpot States (HSS) - A variety of statewide talkgroups. This was initially started for listing to nets in other areas. (not on the PD362 or AR482) Interesting Notes Diagnostic Menu Hytera radios have a diagnostic menu, it is accessed using a special sequence of keys. There isn t a lot of interesting info here. But, there is an RSSI display that can give you information about how different antennas or locations work. From the diagrams above, you can see a green button labeled P1, this is the button to start the sequence. There are also two buttons either above or next to the display, They have a dash - or two dashes --. I will refer to them as 1 and 2. The sequence needs to be rapidly to work. Use P1 2 1 P1 2 1 You should now be page titled Last Reset Log, press Back (2 dashes), then select RSSI and select (1 dash). You can now see the RSSI display. Page 12 of 12
