KNOW YOURSELF SO YOU CAN SELL YOURSELF

INTRODUCTION This toolkit is designed to help you get to know yourself better. Yes, you read that right. You are going to dig deep, and spend some time discovering: WHO YOU REALLY ARE... HOW YOU CAN USE THOSE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES TO CREATE THE LIFE YOU WANT You will also learn how to set goals, and reflect on the characteristics and beliefs you need to have to be successful in life. SAY WHAT? WHAT YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES ARE Yeah, we re about to get real up close and personal, because YOU are the very centre of your existence. The decisions you make will shape your future. So, the first step is for you to know yourself better so that you can understand what drives you, what beliefs you have that shape your decisions, and what you really, truly, deeply want out of your life. STILL THERE? GOOD, LETS GET STARTED!

REFLECTION 1. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THE LAST YEAR? Think about things you have done that have made you proud of yourself. Example 1: I had a really difficult exam timetable, but I managed to pass all of my exams well. Example 2: I got my learners license. POINT FIND A QUIET PLACE AND REFLECT ON THESE QUESTIONS:

1.1 LOOKING AT YOUR ANSWERS ABOVE, WHAT DID YOU LEARN? Think about the last year, what have you learned? These can be life lessons that you have put into practice or lessons you could learn. When you write you lessons learned, state them as clear pieces of advice. like don t delay important tasks or speak your mind freely, but respectfully. 2. WHAT WERE YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS IN THE LAST YEAR? What is something that happened to you or you have done that you have regretted or made you feel bad? Example: I missed an opportunity for a job interview, because the taxis were running late. Example: Put in the hard work and you can achieve excellent results!

Example: Always leave earlier than you need to for important meetings or occasions. You never know when something could go wrong and make you late. 3. OUT OF ALL THE LESSONS YOU WROTE DOWN IN THE TWO EXERCISES ABOVE, WHICH ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS? Write them down above. These are going to be your Personal Guidelines for the next year. PERSONAL GUIDELINE 1 2.1 LOOKING AT YOUR ANSWERS TO QUESTION 2, WHAT DID YOU LEARN? When you write your lessons learned, state them in the form of clear straight advice. Write your answers as an instruction. Keep going until you feel you ve taken all the lessons you learnt and turned them into good advice for your future self. PERSONAL GUIDELINE 2 PERSONAL GUIDELINE 3

LIMITING 4. WHAT BELIEFS DO YOU HAVE THAT LIMIT OR STOP YOU FROM GOING AFTER WHAT YOU WANT? Example: I want to apply for a job, but they are going to make me do a maths test and I am scared I fail it. BELIEFS IN ORDER FOR YOU TO TRULY BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, YOU FIRST NEED TO KNOW WHAT BELIEFS HOLD YOU BACK IN LIFE. THEN YOU CAN TURN THEM AROUND INTO NEW AND EMPOWERING BELIEFS.

Example 1: I am not doing as well in my essays as I know I can. Example 2: I have not found a job yet. 5. IN WHICH AREAS ARE YOU NOT ACHIEVING WHAT YOU WANT? Example 1: Essays: I tell myself that it is because I am busy with sport, friends, helping my mom with my little brother and so I don t have time to put in the effort that I need to. The truth is that it is not about the time, I am just not putting in the effort I need to. 6. WHAT DO YOU SAY TO YOURSELF TO EXPLAIN THESE FAILURES? THESE ARE YOUR LIMITING BELIEFS. Example 2: Jobs: I won t find a job because there are so many other unemployed people.

7. LIFE IS A SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY. WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT LIFE WILL BE YOUR EXPERIENCE OF LIFE NEALE DONALD WALSCH LOOK AT YOUR LIST OF LIMITING BELIEFS AND CHOOSE THE ONE THAT HAS THE STRONGEST NEGATIVE INFLUENCE ON YOUR LIFE, IN OTHER WORDS, THE ONE THAT HOLDS YOU BACK THE MOST. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE LIMITING BELIEF THAT YOU WILL SHIFT TO A NEW EMPOWERING BELIEF. WRITE A NEW BELIEF TO DESTROY THE SELF-LIMITING ONE. MAKE SURE IT MEETS THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: POSITIVE PERSONAL PRESENT TENSE POWERFULLY STATED POINTS TO EXCITING NEW POSSIBILITY

NEW EMPOWERING BELIEF Example: When applying for jobs, people often look at your English mark. I have done well in all my subjects except English, which means that I am clever enough to do well in English. I just need to put in the hours. Example: I am smart, I am dedicated and I work really hard. I WILL find a job and I will not give up until I do. 8. WHAT OTHER BELIEFS DO YOU NEED TO HAVE TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE?
