Triand Manual 2014-15 1. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://my.triand.com. 2. This is the Triand. The menu bar is on the top in green. Click on login. 3. Login using your e-mail address and password. Click on Log in. * * * First Step I do not have access to passwords. If you forget your password, click on Forgot your password. The first time you login to the Triand, you will click on Forgot your password. You will receive a link that will allow you to set your password.

4. The first time that you login to the Triand site, you may have to activate your account. You will know if you need to activate your account because there will be a notice at the top of your screen that will indicate this. Click on profile to activate your account. Under the box with your e-mail address, you will see where you can click on Resend activation email. 5. Once your account is active, click on Tests on the menu bar. Everything that you need to complete the nine weeks testing process is found on the testing screen. 6. You can use the Search box or the general search option on the right. If you use the general search option on the right, the search box on the left must be empty. You must have Find tests shared by my friends selected on the top box on the right. You will not be able to access anything until the testing window is open. These numbers change to match the nine weeks and year. 4science2-10 If you use the search box above, make sure that the search area on the right looks just like mine. Each test follows the same naming scheme: grade level, subject, nine weeks, -14 Example 6science2-14 (This is the 6 th grade science test for the 2nd nine weeks for 2014.) Download answer keys is only available on my district account.

Elementary subject names: reading, math, science, socialstudies, writing Middle subject names: English, math, science, socialstudies Second Grade 2reading3-14, 2math3-14, 2science3-14, 2socialstudies3-14 (Second Grade does not give any nine weeks tests until the third nine weeks.) Third Grade -3reading1-14, 3math1-14, 3science1-14, 3socialstudies1-14, 3writing1-14 Fourth Grade - 4reading1-14, 4math1-14, 4science1-14, 4socialstudies1-14, 4writing1-14 Fifth Grade - 5reading1-14, 5math1-14, 5science1-14, 5socialstudies1-14, 5writing1-14 Sixth Grade 6English1-14, 6math1-14, 6science1-14, 6socialstudies1-14 Seventh Grade - 7English1-14, 7math1-14, 7science1-14, 7socialstudies1-14 Eighth Grade - 8English1-14, 8math1-14, 8science1-14, 8socialstudies1-14 7. When your test comes up, you will be able to create the PDF that allows you to print your scan sheets and access your reports. Look to the far right of your test. You will see the Report icon. To the right of that, you will see the Print Scan Forms pink button. Click on the button to generate a PDF file with all of your scan sheets for that subject. If you should need to just print one scan sheet, scroll down to the sheet that you need. Go to File on the main menu bar, and click on Print. Choose to print current page. Click on the report icon to access your reports for this test. Repeat this procedure for each subject that you teach.

8. To see the answer key, you actually need to open the test. Click on the Edit button below the test, and it will open. 9. You will see 4 purple buttons at the top of the test on the old tests that I have created. Please check out the new screen shot on the next page for the new test format. Click View Answer Key to see the answers for the test. When the window opens, you can print the answer key by right-clicking and selecting Print. If you are using Firefox, go to File and Print. Please don t try to print or edit test booklets. These are not the actual nine weeks tests. The actual tests are stored on my hard drive with our district s formatting. Clicking on the Test my students and view reports button will take you directly to reports where you will see the print scan sheet option. You can also print your scan sheets from the main test page. It just gives you two options for completing the task. The Common Core standards are the new federal standards. Virginia will continue to use the SOLs.

With the new answer key test format, you will use a slightly different procedure to see and print the answer key. Search for the new test and again click on the Edit button on the bottom left (See number 8 above.). When the test opens, you will see the answer key at the end of the test. There is a print button on the bottom left of the answer key.

10. This is a sample scan sheet. The important thing to remember is to make sure that your students do not color or mark on the bar codes. If they do, their test may not scan. They also need to leave the large circle at the top and the two at the bottom alone no coloring in, etc. They are the orientation circles that the company uses to align the sheets for reading and entering into their system. Make sure that copiers have fresh toner. The alignment circles and bar codes must print clearly and be dark enough for the company s scanners to read them. I would not scan more than 30 to 40 copies at one time. Orientation circles need to be left alone, or the sheets won t scan correctly. This information will be entered for you.

11. You will scan your own tests. Have your students take the nine weeks test and put their answers on the plain paper scan sheets that you print. Stress to the students that they must not bend and mark on these sheets except to mark their answers. They do need to be careful with filling in the answer circles. You will use the scan feature of the Ricoh copier at your school. 12. I do not want to overwhelm the Ricoh copiers by having everyone try to scan all of their tests on the last day of the testing window. Scan your tests on the day that you give them. You may scan makeups after you give them on another day. 13. When you are ready to grade your tests, go to the Ricoh copier at your school. Put your scan sheets in the top tray. Make sure that they are face up in the normal position. Make sure that you put them in with all of the sheets going in the same way. Even up the stack before you put them in the tray. I would not scan more than 30 to 40 sheets at one time.

14. Click on the Scanner button. 15. You must add your copier code number in order to operate the scan feature. If you don t have a code number, see your school secretary.

16. When you click on the Scanner button, you will see the address book in the window. Click on the RST tab. 17. Click on the Triand button. You will see the scan@triand.com address appear in the e-mail address area. 18. Click on the Start key to start the process.

19. The cool thing about the Triand is that you get your results almost immediately. Once you finish scanning, log back into Triand. Bring up the test following the procedure in number 6. Click on the Report icon. Change type of reports here. Click here to change the percentage. You can look at your results as either percents or numbers by clicking here. Download your scores here. You can download the report as a PDF or as an Excel spreadsheet or just download the scores. Drill down to see your students by clicking on the district, your school, your name, the subject, etc. This part works just like it did on the old site. I have found that drilling down works better than clicking on My Students.

Type of reports from left to right: Student Performance (This is the report that you will use to get your grades.), NCLB Analysis (This report lets you break down your results by subgroups.), Curriculum Analysis (This report lets you do an item analysis.) ****Triand results appear very quickly. At times, it may take a little longer if a lot of scans are being processed at one time. If your scan sheets do not appear in your reports within a reasonable time, please do not rescan them numerous times. This will cause the system to crash. E-mail Debbie Hodges for assistance.

Triand Reports Curriculum Analysis Item Analysis 1. Login to Triand. To see the item analysis for a test, you must first access the test. Click on the Tests tab. Do a search for your test. When you find the test, click on the report icon. grade, subject, nine weeks, year In the search fields on the right, you should have Find tests shared by my friends as the first choice. I don t see this option since I create all of the tests and have admin rights. 2. When the Reports page appears, click on the Curriculum Analysis button.

3. With Triand reports, you always drill down to the information that you need. To see your school s item analysis, click on School. A drop-down box will appear. Click on the small arrow on the right of the box to select your school. Click here to select your school. 4. To see the item analysis for all of your classes, click on School first and select your school. Then, click on Teacher and select your name from the drop-down box. Click on the arrow and select your name.

Triand Answer Key Test With an answer key test, you are not actually building a test by adding items to Triand. You could do that, but this is so much faster. You only need three things: a test that you already use, the answer for each question, and the SOL correlation for each question. Be sure to read this section because Triand has changed the procedure. 1. Login to Triand. 2. Click on Tests. 3. Make sure that the Search feature on the left is blank. On the right, make sure the top choice is Find Tests I Created, any subject, any grade. 4. On the right, click on the Create a New Test button (It is pink.). 5. The Create a Test window will open. This is new procedure. You will put the title of your test here. When the window opens, click on the small pencil to create the name of your test. MA Make sure that you name your test with a name that is easy for you to remember. ENG (Middle School & High School only) RE WR SC SS Grade must have a leading 0. You can use something similar to what I do with nine weeks tests 6math3-13, or you can use chapter names. If you plan to share a test, you might want to put your initials in the title. Make sure that you put the year on the end of the title like I do with my tests. This makes it easy to reuse the test the next year. On the right side of the title, you will see the subject/grade area. You must use the same subject abbreviations that I use (The ones that I use are already mapped into the program

for you.). The grade must have a leading 0 if it is less than two digits. Click on the pencils to edit the subject and grade. 6. Click on the pink Add another item button. 7. Click on the pink Advanced Search button.

8. Click on the arrow at the end of Find items and scroll down to Create a new item. When you select it, you will see another window open. This window lets you indicate your number of questions. You can add 20 at a time and may repeat the process until you reach your number of questions. 9. You will need the SOL correlation and answer for each question. You will need to scroll back to the first question. Double click the question to bring up the Edit Item window. Look at the bottom of the window, and you will see where you can add the answer and standard. You can make your test A-E only or A-E and F-K. You do this on the report page, and this will be explained later in the manual. Once you have selected the answer and standard, you must click the pink Save Item button. You must repeat this procedure for each question.

10. When you click on Standard, the Add a Standard window will open. You will need to put in the Subject, Grade, and Course. With social studies, you will probably need to go one grade lower than what you teach to see the correct SOLs. Don t worry. It won t affect your test or scores. With high school classes, make sure you select HS for the grade to see the standards. With the other subjects, you will probably need to click on Course to change it from the Common Core Standards. When you are done, click on Close in the lower left. You will need to set this for each question. 11. When you are done, you must scroll to the top and save your test. If you do not, you will lose everything. See the picture below with the Save button highlighted.

12. Triand has several brand new features. When you click the Save button, you will see the major change. You can now create online tests with Triand. If you want to try this feature, e-mail Debbie Hodges. Another cool feature is that your Answer Key is created as you create your test. When you complete your test, you can click on Print in the lower left of the Answer Key to print it.

13. You are almost done. The last thing that you have to do is set the details for your test. You do this on the Reports page. You can access this by clicking on the Reports icon. 14. You must set the details before you can use the test. Unlike the procedure that we used last year, the test details are not found at the top of the Reports page. You have to scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see them. The first thing that you do is set the percentage. Triand bases it on the number of questions that you enter into the test. Do not set this until you are finished with your test. If you edit your test and change the number of questions, you need to check this box to be sure that it still matches the percentage that you want. Use the middle option. Next, you will need to set the date that your test opens. The easiest way to do this is by the small calendar. If you share your test with friends, they will not be able to see your test until the date the test opens. Then, set how long your test will be open. When you are done, click on Save changes. Set your percentage with the middle option. This is the box that you use to set the date that your test opens. The second box determines how long your test will remain open for use. This is where you can change how your answers appear. Don t forget to Save!

15. If you want to share your test with someone at your school, you need to click on the Friends tab. On the right side, you will need to Find someone at my school or district depending on whether the person is at your school or at another school. This is a cool way to have common assessments. To let the person share your test, you will need to double-click the rights area. Then, you will need to be sure that the option to share the tests is selected. You will need to save these changes. Be aware that the person that you share your test with won t be able to see anything until the testing window that you set opens. Double-click this area. 16. If you are starting a new semester or a new year, you must make a copy of your old test in order for your new students to be able to use the test and be associated with new reports. This is not a hard task to do. If you do not do this, your new students will show up on your old reports with students that you no longer have scheduled with you. You don t have to worry about this step for the elementary and middle school benchmark tests. I do this as I create the tests each nine weeks. That is why the year is at the end of the name of each of the benchmark tests that I create.

17. Login to Triand and find the test that you need to copy. Look in the bottom left corner of the test, and you will see four buttons. Be very careful and make sure that you select the Copy button and not the Delete button. 18. Your test will appear with -copy for and Your Name at the end of the name of your test (This screen shot is for my old tests. For the new tests, it will look a little different. There will be additional screen shots below for the new procedure.). For the benchmark tests, I just change the year to the next year. For your tests, you can add second semester, change the year, etc. Once this is done, be sure to save your changes by clicking on the Save button at the top. Once you do this, you will need to click on the Test my students and view reports button at the top. This will allow you to set a new date for your tests to open.

For the new procedure, you will still hit the copy button, but you will see the pencils that enable you to change the title. Click on the pencil, change your title, and make sure to save your changes. Then, set your test details like you did in number 13. 19. As a Triand user, you also have access to released tests from other states including the tests from New York that Dan Mulligan recommends. To pull these tests up, login to Triand and click on Tests. Search for Find tests shared with everyone. You can narrow the search down by choosing a specific subject and grade. Browse through the tests. When you find a test that you want to use, click on it. At the top, you need to click on Edit test. Now, you can rename the test so that your scan sheets will be aligned with the test. Make sure that the subject and grade code match my codes. See number 5 above if you need help. Create the rest of the test using the directions in this section. If you want to combine several tests into one test, send Debbie Hodges an e-mail for help.

20. Right before testing each nine weeks, I ask you to check your classes to be sure that I have the students correctly entered into each class. There is an easy way to do this. Click on classes on the green main menu bar. Make sure that the box on the left is empty. Make the boxes on the right look like mine. When you do that, your classes will appear. Click on each class to see your roster.
