Instructions 1. Refer to the cutting and piecing page for cutting instructions. 2. Trace the templates onto the paper side of your fusible adhesive leaving approximately ½ between tracings. Trace the placement lines, if desired. Optional: Buttons can be used in place of pupil appliqué circles if desired these will be sewn on after quilting with white thread for highlight accent. 3. Roughly cut the templates from the adhesive just outside of the traced line. 4. Place the adhesive templates onto the wrong side of their corresponding appliqué fabrics and fuse in place according to manufacturer s instructions. 5. Neatly cut the appliqués from the fabrics on the traced template lines. 6. Peel the paper backing from the appliqués and arrange owl pieces on each background square. Fuse appliqués into place. 7. Place the Sulky Tear-Easy stabilizer behind the block and satin stitch the raw edges of the appliqués, using Sulky Premium 40 wt rayon thread. Using white thread satin stitch pupil highlight. Remove the stabilizer after stitching. Black 1" buttons with two holes can also be used for the eyes. Stitch them on with white perle cotton to create the highlight. 8. Piece the quilt, as shown on the cutting and piecing page. 9. Sandwich batting between quilt top and backing with wrong sides of quilt and backing against batting. 10. Quilt as desired. I used a straight stitch, in matching thread, around each appliqué s satin stitching and in the ditch of all seams. 11. Bind as usual, using 2¼ strips cut from the binding fabric. All seams are stitched at ¼". 1. From the black border fabric, cut two 2¼ x 42" strips, from these strips cut two 2¼ x 19½" and two 2¼ x 9" for borders. Cut two 2½ x 5½" rectangles for sashing. 2. From the yellow binding fabric, cut two 2¼ x 42" strips for binding. 3. From the orange fabric, cut one 5½ x 5½" square for appliqué background. 4. From the purple fabric, cut one 5½ x 5½" square for appliqué background. 5. From the lime green fabric, cut one 5½ x 5½" square for appliqué background. INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup butter 1 cup white sugar 1 cup chilled applesauce 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 cup raisins 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1. Cream butter or margarine with sugar. Add applesauce; beat well. Stir in flour, soda, and spices. Add nuts and raisins. 2. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until done. Serve warm. Artwork 2013 Patrick Lose INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/4 cup cranberries 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar 1 cup red onion, chopped 1 tablespoon white sugar 1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard 1 cup vegetable oil 10 cups mixed salad greens 2 Red Delicious apples, cored and sliced 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spread the walnuts out on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly toasted. 2. In a food processor, combine the cranberries, vinegar, onion, sugar, and mustard. Puree until smooth; gradually add oil, and season with salt and pepper, to taste. 3.
