Pion Sancal As her first creation for Sancal, Ionna Vautrin has designed a colourful trio of two tables and a stool inspired by chess pieces. Mustard, olive, peach, sky-blue and shadow grey are the five colours that have been selected for the bases. She uses a contrast of high gloss for the lacquers with a matte, wax finish for the natural wood. The seat of the stool is in natural leather, chosen to match the colour of the base. The table tops as well as the pedestals of the taller tables and the structures of the seating areas are in maple wood. La Isla Sancal As we travel more, we continually find ourselves in transit areas vast seas of inhospitable and unwelcoming space that Marc Augué has dubbed non-places. Sancal turned to Note, a Swedish design studio to provide some relief for weary travellers. They came up with La Isla as a solution. An entire family of chairs, sofas and modules, as light as they are comfortable, REW can be used with two different types of arm: one is high and thin like the backs and the other is low and soft, like the base of the design. Mosaico Sancal A puzzle with more than one solution. Together with the design studio Yonoh, Sancal presents a unique program of occasional tables and seating solutions. Clara and Alex are both from Valencia, a Spanish city renowned for its ceramic tiles, so it seems only fitting that this provided the inspiration for the piece. Mosaico is a puzzle that can be used to solve a range of different spatial constraints. The bases are made of ash and are available in five measurements upon which marble or wooden tops can be fitted as well as upholstered seat cushions. The optional backs enable the pieces to be transformed into mini-sofas. The hexagonal piece enables, amongst other possibilities, the creation of compositions that make closed loops. The corner angle adds an element of sinuosity to the design with its curved side.
