The GFWC Junior Woman s Club of Westminster, Inc. The Junior Circle Volume 10 Our next club meeting is 6:30 p.m., The Co-Presidents Message Hello everyone! March 2011 Thursday, March 10th, at the Carroll Nonprofit Center, 255 Clifton Boulevard. It was great seeing everyone at the February meeting. Thanks to the hostesses for the wonderful food. Congratulations to Patti Jo and her family on the birth of twin grandchildren, Alexander and Arianna. Her daughter had a c-section on February 17th. We are looking forward to hearing more details at the March meeting. Inside this issue: Bird Feeders and Those Pesky Squirrels Members on the Move 2 St. Baldrick s 2 St. Baldrick s 2011 Donation Form Celtic Canter 4 2011 Calendar of Events 5 March Birthdays 6 March Hostesses 6 Meals on Wheels 6 Newsletter Deadline 6 News from the Editor 6 Unapproved Club Meeting Minutes Thoughts on Club Membership 2 3 insert 6 At the March meeting we will be voting for a "Rookie of the Year" and "Outstanding Junior" to represent our club at Junior Day in April. Also, the nominating committee... Babs, Diana, and Jessica C... will be preparing a slate of officers for the 2011-2012 club year. If there is someone you feel would be a great person to fill a particular office, be sure to let the committee know. The club will vote at the April meeting. Don't forget to mark your calendars for Junior Day Saturday, April 30. This will the first day of the State GFWC Convention at the BWI Marriott. We will have more details at the next two meetings. Hope to see you in March, Jessica and Cecilia

VOLUME 6 THE JUNIOR CIRCLE PAGE 2 Bird Feeders and Those Pesky Squirrels I don't know about the rest of you but I am tried of those pesky squirrels emptying my bird feeders all in one day. I have two bird feeders hanging on shepherd staff poles. After being unable to locate a cone pole squirrel baffle for the shepherd staff poles in stores (I have since found them for sale on-line.), I decided to take matters in my own hands. What the poles needed was a good greasing (and I don't mean motor oil). I greased the poles with vegetable oil (or Pam spray.) I have to tell you that did the trick. Not only were the squirrels unable to get up the poles, but it was funny watching them sliding down. (I wished I had a video camera!! I could have made money on American Home Video.) After several attempts, they finally gave up. Of course, I have to grease the poles every couple days but the bird feeders don't need to be filled as often. AM0105 So, if you have bird feeders on poles (not attached to anything), you might want to try greasing the poles. It is great for a laugh. Susan K. Members on the Move Where, oh where, has this club year gone? Our 2010 Annual Reports were composed and submitted. Nominations are being sought for, both, award nominees and next year s club officers. Plans are in the making for this year s May meeting. Be sure to watch for specific details! We are looking forward to a fun evening together! (Be sure to attend the April club meeting, bringing all of the playing cards you have collected through the year for your poker hand. The club member with the winning hand will have her May dinner paid.) Cecilia and Babs have forward previous issues of the GFWC News and Notes with short, informative articles for the membership. We hope each of you have gone to the GFWC website and signed up to receive News and Notes right in your in-box. The February 14th issue contained these articles: Advertise in the Official Convention Program, Membership Mysteries Revealed, Join GFWC for Our Annual Women s History Month Celebration Reception, Shop Marketplace for Essential Women s History Month Items. Take advantage of this and all resources from the GFWC. Sandy & Jesse St. Baldrick s A teacher at West Middle School, Jennifer Girard, is raising money for children with cancer by shaving her head. There is a donation form on the next page, if you are interested in making a donation. To help with this project, she has been wearing a scarf on her head in order to get the students used to not seeing her pretty long red hair. This takes a lot of guts. I don't know how many of us would shave our heads for charity. So far, she has raised a little over $2,000.00. On the donation form, the necessary information has been inserted for your convenience. Any questions, please call or e-mail me. If you have already donated to this wonderful cause, thank you. Susan K

Sandy Thoughts on Club Membership Each club may seem unique BUT really we are all women looking to make a positive difference in our communities and we want to leave a legacy so new members can stand on the shoulders of the seasoned members and share a vision for the future of GFWC. SHARE GFWC Membership with your neighbors, family, and friends so they too have the same opportunities that we have had the privilege to experience.
